Called to ask if they was a item in store, they said yes. We asked if they could hold it beings that we had called all Academys in 100 mile radius of us they said they could. Then they called and said they was holding it for someone else. So I asked what other products similar to that. Because at this point we had already drove 50 miles, and I could hear them talking (they was on a cell phone), I was holding for 15 minutes. Tried to call back and they wouldnt answer. HOW RUDE!!!!!!! Guess what another store got our business... We loved Academy.... No more of our business......We called Hickory NC, Johnson City TN, Spartanburg SC, and Greenville SC. VERY DISAPPOINTED

The two staff members I talked with were not very helpful and acted irritated that I was asking questions about a Huffy Disney Frozen bicycle I purposefully drove to that particular store to purchase, because it was listed online as being available in that store, when I got there the only one that they had assembled was broken and they were only willing to give an $8 discount, replacing the broken part would cost more than $8 so I went to Walmart and purchased the same brand bicycle with a slightly different Disney Frozen picture on it, in perfect condition for $10 cheaper than Academy had it listed for sale.

Everytime I go there for items in their ads,they dont have them! I went recently for charcoal they had advertised,as a double bag of Kingsford they were out and were subtituting some off brand,had to see a manager to get results.today I went for sandals on sale,had none,I called just now to check on an item I saw there that I couldnt find on the website,I was hungup on,called back and was told to hold on they would check held on til it started timing back and no one ever answered.a little customer service goes a long way! I worked in this field for 45 years,never left a customer without an answer

Apparently big stores like this one have a hard time acquiring quality employees. One line for checkout while two employees stood up front and shot the breeze. The gentleman behind me put his items down and walked out. As he left he said something to the employees that were up front. The look on their face said it all. They continued their conversation for another 6 minutes. After they were finished talking one of them meandered to a register and said "I can take somebody over here".

Purchased a S&W SD9VE. Everything in the store went smooth, just took a while, almost like buying a car. Payed for the gun at the register with my bank card, two days later they charged the same amount to my card again. Called the store to talk with a manager and the lady I spoke with, who said she was the manager on duty, was very rude. She instantly went on the defensive like it was my fault. Long story short I still have not gotten my money back and Im taking it to the BBB!

Great variety, great staff, great experience. Academy has a fantastic selection of everything from guns and ammunition, to grills, to shoes, and more. The employees are all very knowledgeable in their individual departments and can direct you to help in other departments. They normally keep plenty of checkout lanes open, to facilitate quick transactions. Customer service is top notch, truly embodying the philosophy that "the customer is always right."

The fishing and hunting section seems to always be out of stock in a lot of items. Entire sections of fishing tackle are empty. I could not find one fluttering spoon. Numerous crankbait sections missing. Almost no displays for fish finder and navigation equipment. Its like going to an empty grocery store in the old Soviet Union! Not nearly enough cashiers available on a Friday afternoon.

Tried to buy a red dot sight, could not get help waited for 1 1/2 hours. Store was not busy. They had three employees working the area. One employee helping someone on the phone the other stayed to the back and the other stocking the fishing reels. I finally got to look at one. I said I wanted it. He started helping someone else. I and three other customers left for lack of service.

Lots of great stuff here. Its a little pricey at times - probably because their inventory includes a lot of licensed logos. Everything is usually neat and well organized. Only qualm? I was sent on a wild goose chase for an item. I went through a couple of workers before I could find what I was looking for. However, I will be back.

These guys are number one in my book. Tanner and Rick in particular really do work with you and make your experience a good one. I had an issue with a boat I recently purchased and, even though they could have refused to help me, they did. I wont forget that and will look to this store for anything else I need down the road.

They have a new bow technician hes oriental but he knows his stuff. I saw him working on a mans bow and i watched him he does his work with tlc just like his own. Im a picky guy who dont let random work on my bow but i trusted him he knows his stuff. Great guy here guys visit him with your bow needs

This store is the worst ever for customer service . Sorry to say I live in Spartanburg, and have chose to shop elsewhere . I called the store ... everyone I spoke to was rude . I went to the store, the customer service was also rude . Never going back.

Academy is usually the best store around in customer service. Not so today, as they refused to honor a 25% clearance sale price on an item. Spoke with manager to no avail. I guess every store has a bad day I guess.

This place has an awesome selection and reasonable prices. The staff isnt particularly friendly and the parking lot can be a major hassle to get in and out of.
