I sew and I do cross-stitch (though an expert at neither) and occasionally other random crafts. Lately Ive been sewing a lot, and Ive been visiting this Joanns frequently. So here are the PROs: 1. For MY needs, I find they have a big enough selection of fabrics. I rarely find something that I love love must have, but I always find something that I like that is suitable for my project. Ditto embroidery floss and accessories. And all the 6000 sewing accessory gizmos. Generally a satisfactory selection. 2. Tons of things are always on sale. Pretty good sales too -- a lot of 15-25% off certain types of fabric. But I expect thats because they jack up the prices a bit in the first place so they can have all those "sales", so whatevs. Most of the fabrics I pick up from the shelf turn out to be within or close to my (cheap) price range. 3. They do give good coupons if you sign up for their text message mailing list. Often 50, sometimes 60% off a single item, or sometimes 20% off your whole purchase. (Sewing machines dont count. Boo. Theyre sold by another vendor that sets up shop in the Joanns.) A different Joanns recently was selling all their New Look patterns, usually $20, for $2. 4. Believe it or not, my personal experience with the salespeople in this particular store is that they are nice enough, and usually able to answer my questions knowledgeably, suggest solutions to problems, and find things for me in the store. 5. Theres enough parking. 6. They offer teacher and military discounts, and probably others. 7. They have their own wifi, since theyre below ground. Its free and its called JoannGuest or something. Ask a staff member how to sign up for the text message coupon thingy. 8. Its at the intersection of major highways/streets, so its easy to get to. And here are the CONs: 1. THERE ARE NEVER ENOUGH STAFF PEOPLE. There are never enough people at the cutting table, and never enough people at the register, so there are always long lines at each. And there is never anyone to be found to answer questions except the sewing machine people, who dont know because they dont work for Joanns. This staff shortage always lengthens my trip and worsens my mood, and its obvious to see the stress it puts on the few employees on duty. Joann HR people, just suck it up and hire more help, because there are NEVER ENOUGH STAFF. 2. Dark and in a basement? Give me a break. Its just as light as any other store. Maybe it seems that way to you because the entrance with the escalators going down actually IS kind of dark. But the store itself is fine. And the problem with it being below ground is..........?? 3. For embroidery floss in particular, if they are out of a color, it can be a long, long, long time before they get more. Best just to shop for it somewhere else. 4. Selection. Yes, its also on the PROs list because its satisfactory, but its not the kind of place where you can find any damn fabric youre looking for. The selection of each type of fabric/product is never enough to make you go "Whoa, they have so much of this." Except quilting fabrics, and possibly large-size flannels. I wish they had more sewing patterns and a better selection of visual aids (lamps, magnifiers, glasses, etc.). Also cheap two-way stretch fabrics. Also cording. 5. I gotta say, one or two of the people who have cut fabric for me do it really inefficiently, so that its prone to errors and makes a long process even longer. They should offer specific training for those people. Overall, its enough to make me keep going there rather than finding some place a bit farther away.

As a childcare center director and ,I am just so grateful for having this store at a reasonable distance form home. It is a great resource for fabrics. I love using fabrics to create dramatic play areas. However, I must agree with the Narberth reviewer .The staff has a morale problem but I dont blame the location for that. The layout of the the place ,especially the registers is insanity ! There must be at least 6 actual cash registers. Yet in all of the years Ive shopped there I cant remember EVER seeing more than two open and one of those being the "customer service " nook. I dont blame the lower level location.I believe imagine any sun light would damage the fabrics.Lets not forget that commercial real estate is extremely expensive For example, I was just at Michael s Crafts buying huge reams of construction paper on sale. But had faded entire thirds of paper that had clearly been expose to a defined ray of sunlight.... FYI, My business is in a an "LL" in center city and it is a very cheerful place! We are fortunate to have some street level windows !though! Happy Shopping

I felt like I had walked into a bargain basement, it was depressingly dark and cave like and no one was there to guide me through the maze.of unmarked isles, It was confusing and overwhelming. I finally cornered a young woman to help me 30 minutes into it and she did a great job matching colors for me, but no smile...in fact I worked with 5 different people and not one person had a nice word or a smile for me. I left with what I needed from this Springfield location and can complete my project but I can see why everyone is so depressed, I would stop smiling after a week of working in a cave, wouldnt you? Terrible experience today. I have purchased my fabric at other Joans stores, but my experience at this store was completely different. Two employees assured me that prices were not as marked, because "prices go up". What? I showed them the fabric I have selected was marked with a discount, but they told me again that prices go up, and they are not as marked. Very confusing and not prices are not was is marketed. I will go to Fabric Row from now on. Good bye Joans in Springfield.

In general JoAnn Fabrics is a great store. They have a large selection of both fabric and all types of other craft supplies. Cake decorating supplies, childrens crafts, holiday decorations, scrapbooking... They have it all. The prices are reasonable and they manage they their sales/coupons much better than competitors. The only downside to this location is that the store is older and the bathrooms could be cleaner.

this is the only joann fabric that accept multiple coupon (AC Moore and Michael coupon) in one transaction. I went there to buy paper craft and yarn. Their prices are a little higher then AC Moore and Michael but because they accept multiple coupons it work out o.k. The staffs are not friendly, again its fine because I went there to buy craft supplies not to make friend with the staffs.

Walking around making decisions always great. Waiting in line to pay a joke. One cashier 11 people in line. This happens every time. With the amount of money spent by the customers or I should say guests as they call us you would think theyd have more respect for us and always have more than one cashier
