Living In Clatsop
Wow, This is one of the cleanest and most organized Goodwill stores that I have seen, I usually frequent the Longview store and it does not compare! The staff is wonderful, they really know their stuff, and if they dont, they will take you to someone who does. They seem to have an eye for quality, there was a lot of name brand gently used and for a decent price. Something that my home Goodwill does not do, they buy directly from Target; all that stuff that doesnt sell at Target- Goodwill sells for like 1/3 the price. I bought a brand new table set and a dresser (they were in their original packaging, and not assembled) online Target has them both listed together as $375, I paid a total $80, $40 each piece. Besides all that, they have this really cool program called Job Connection, it is free job assistance. Sorta like the Employment department but smaller and more personal. They will also tell you all about how their business works, why they collect and sell donations. I learned a whole lot, like that it is NON-PROFIT, I had no idea. All this time I thought they were benifitting from us. But really they have cool free programs for everyone. Plus what it takes to run the business, like payroll and electricity. Overall I experienced more here in my one hour visit, and I have the entire time I have been shopping Goodwill in Washington. Also they run as separate companies in different territories, WHO KNEW! I hear and read the negativity from others saying that Goodwill is money hungry and greedy, I think those people should really talk to the supervisors/management/ or even JOb Connection (I met the ladies in the Job office, they will answer so many questions for you.). My opinion has changed, for the better, I was so impressed, I just had to write this Google Review.

For now I will continue to shop at Goodwill, but due to their rising prices and unfriendly policies I may soon change my mind and give all of my business to smaller thrift shops. Why? Many items are priced way too high, often used items are the same price or higher than “new retail” price. Also, Goodwill corporate HQ seems to think being extremely strict when it comes to policies and rules is best. They think it means keeping things in order but what it actually translates to is an unfriendly and unfair atmosphere. Supervisors and workers end up acting like mindless drones, managers act like dictators when dealing with the public. I can only imagine what it’s like working there. Mangers and supervisors have no say in anything. They can’t use their better judgment when something is in question. They must adhere to rules and polices no matter how ridiculous they are, no matter how inconvenient and unfair to the customer, even if it means losing sales. If I wanted to shop at an army barracks atmosphere or have to adhere to ridiculous and impractical rules I would have enlisted or worked for the government.

Policy changes have ruined this store. The people in front of me at checkout had an item without a price tag and since it was after, "production closed" there was no one in the building that could price an item! I had several items and among them 3 toys which were very similar but only the one in the best shape had a tag still attached. I do not usually buy toys but I noticed many while searching through them that were un-priced, to be expected when children have access to play with them. So when it was my turn the cashier repeated the policy, "No price after production stops." So I asked if she would put my name on the 2 toys and Id come back at opening to have them priced and purchase them, I was told they could not hold them. Now what kind of store would put off a customer who was willing to go out of their way (20 mile round trip) and return so that the items could be priced! I found out later production stops at 3:30pm, WOW really?!? With the sometimes outrageous prices, this took the cake!!!

A savvy shopper will notice quickly that the prices here are not commensurate with the quality of the product. On numerous occasions my wife and I have found Items for full retail cost of Fred Meyers and the clothing cost is on par with Ross. With the shelves overflowing into the floors and the clothing racks stuffed to the stanchions, youd have the expectation that management would take notice. This, however, has not been the case. If you try hard and invest the time, you can find a reasonable deal on a few items or you could invest your time better and drive to Longview where the prices are more congruent with the product being dispensed. For the time being, we will continue to be judicious shoppers of Goodwill. Im afraid though, it means we wont be buying much.

After reading these reviews I was very surprise with the negative comments. First- there is not a manager with the name Dawn. The Store manager is one of the most helpful people in the store. The supervisors are also very helpful as well as the stores entire staff. I rate the customer service 10+! The store is clean, organized, and has a fabulous selection of items including many designer brands. The prices are good and there is no way something at Fred Meyers will under sell Goodwill. Through Job Connection Goodwill has helped hundreds of people find jobs, food, shelter and clothing. I am so glad Goodwill has come to our town!

The manager is a very, VERY, rude person. She denied my questions when I asked her about where the location of a certain genre of items was. Im honestly contemplating getting within contact of a higher person so that they can evaluate her. Besides her, the prices are a little steep for some items but they do have other goods that are reasonably priced. I bought a coffee table and a young man named Tim that works in the back area was extremely helpful and always kept a smile on his face. Be weary of the cons, but its a goodwill thats worth at least checking out if youre passing by.

They do not know their own policies and do not tell you what they are when checking you out. We returned a electronic that we paid for in cash. When I went to return the item they wanted to give me store credit good for 30 days. When I mentioned that I do not go to goodwill enough to use it the gave me a gift card good at any store. Just what I wanted when I do not shop there often enough to use that. They do not care where the money goes as long as it does not go out their door. I will never shop there again. This is the second time I have had issues at this store.

This store is a rip OFF! There are Goodwills in higher class neighborhoods that are cheaper, the customer service is terrible. I wasnt expecting to get rude service, but thats what I got! Never shop there! The store doesnt even support the local area! It makes me sick to think another scam artist made it way here, and is taking advantage of the towns people. 90% of this Clatsop community lives at poverty level income, and yet shopping at Fred Meyers is actually cheaper. Goodwill only has their pockets in mind, not ours!
