I chose State Tire & Auto after reading the google reviews and a separate consumer review site... Well Im glad I did! The previous reviews were right! My father worked as a service advisor for pretty much every car dealer in the New Jersey tristate area. He taught me how to spot the bull*@#t scare tactics and unnecessary add-ons that even the most reputable places tack on... I knew I needed rear brakes, rotors, and calipers... The grinding was HORRIBLE not only when stopping the whole drive!! I know from experience that kind of job can be pricey not to mention the bill can be easily padded ("you need this or that for your own safety" or"well I dont feel comfortable letting you leave without this or that for the safety of your family" I heard more than a few) So anyway I have them a call on a weekend and they said just bring it in and well take a look at it... First chance I had was a few days later I stopped in about 930a maybe 10.. Jay who was very pleasant, fit me right in.. I told him that I knew pretty much what it needed rear brakes rotors and calipers but good nothing else was wrong (besides the car being a turd) seriously about 10 minutes later he came back in after talking with the mechanic as well as looking for himself with a quote.... Right away he told me I definitely needed brakes and rotors but the calipers were good... Which even surprised him (my particular car is known for having problems with calipers) I did ask him if he was sure and he assured me by actually bringing me out to look at them on the lift... UNREAL! besides my own father no one has EVER actually shown me what was it wasnt wrong! Plus he gave me a great price well under $300 plus he noticed I was low on oil and asked me if I was do for a change (which I was) and the it in for free!! Im amazed... Not only could be have totally ripped me off and charging for the calipers there were no add-ons or "warranties" he threw in an oil change!! He wouldnt even charge my card until the mechanic test drove the car after!!! Im super impressed with this place! I know every review Ive read raves about Steve the service manager... Which I didnt get to meet... I gotta say Jay was pretty friggen amazing himself... Great customer service! The waiting area was very comfy they had an assortment of coffee, Jay even joked with me a couple times while I waited.. Which by the way I didnt really have to... They Fit me right in and started work immediately. They finished pretty damn quick too... Again I couldnt believe it. This was probably one of the best experiences Ive had at any auto center in my life... I cant even count how many different private garages, dealerships, or auto centers Ive been to where ever my father worked I followed. State Tire & Auto is at the top of the list.. the mechanic was nice and efficient, they fit me right in and had me out pretty quick, Jay was not only pleasant but a decent stand up guy couldve up charged the hell out of me but instead threw in an oil change for free and have me an estimate of a few other things I needed... .I did say this was "ONE of the best" experiences Ive had... The only thing they were missing was my Dad... This is exactly the kind of place he wouldve worked for... This was the first time I had to get work done to my car without having the advice of my father... I made the right choice! I will most definitely bring any and all future work there... When choosing a garage honestly its not the parts or the tools they can all get the same parts you want and buy the same tools... Its the employees that make the place great... Quality people = Quality service. Sorry for the novel of a review, I just wanted it to be understood this was a significant experience for me... first time with out fatherly automotive advice... He definitely wouldve approved of my decision

I believe this place to be Firestone branded, but not a full on Firestone. Therefore, they did not push any unneeded or unwanted services or warranties or hidden fees. I called for a quote ahead of time for the service I wanted, and was given a quote on the phone. Steve was incredibly personable and nice, and the quote I recieved was the best price in town, and was exactly what I paid. He was on a first name basis with some regular customers who were rolling in, and I over heard him explaining that there wasnt a need to replace all the rotors and calipers, just the pads and shoes, and the lady seemed shocked at his honesty and said she was expecting pay over four hundred and he said, "more like 70". She was ecstatic. When her car was done, I saw him Go out and get the car for her, and back it in so she could get right in and be on her way. Truly a warming sight. Steves personality resonated with all of us in the waiting room.. over hearing his dealings with regulars and " figuring it out" with them was awesome.A Guy needed help putting his four new tires on a different car, so they worked out a price to get them mounted, balanced, stems, etc, well below what I have heard walMart or Costco charge. I had my serpentine belt and tensioner replaced without issue, and the car runs great! The owner had come out as well and was as equally a great guy. Truly happy with every aspect of this experience. They have free Wifi and Keurig available too!

Brought my Santa Fe in because I noticed power steering line had tear in it... so naturally I took it to Firestone because my family swears by them. Total bill was about $300 which wasnt bad or worse than I expected and went home. Next morning woke up and noticed giant puddle underneath my car.... took it to a more local mechanic and he said it was power steering leaking all over- still leaking & worse than before! Said the reservoir would be empty by nightfall! Told the local mechanic where I brought it and said "well they obviously had to know because its leaking all down tires and etc". He said it was simply because of a sloppy job done half fast- turns out they didnt tighten the valve to the power steering reservoir- a simple two minute fix. They may have fixed the initial problem but theyre careless, sloppy work made me never trust to go here again. They should know it double check their work before releasing vehicle back to costumer- especially at their high prices. Place has gone down since Steve left- new guy in charge is very disrespectful. Only after I left, over voicemail did he offer to look at it again- unacceptable. I highly recommend Mavis instead of Firestone- their prices are great and they do the job right the first time.

My girlfriend and I brought in our car to have an alignment done on 2/23/16. The process was great, affordable, very professional, and we were even shown what caused the alignment problem (hit the frame on a curb). Right before they lowered the car on the lift, the power went out because a car hit a pole down the street and knocked the lines down. We waited for about an hour to see if it would come back on, but it didnt. The shop went above and beyond to drive us home so we didnt have to wait for the power to be restored, and called us when it came back on. When we picked the car up we were greeted with a free oil change coupon for our troubles, and the car drove as good as new! Thank you Steve and the rest of the crew for running a great business.
