This is our favorite spot in Portsmouth for so many reasons! + The staff is always pleasant and happy, you can tell its an enjoyable place to work, weve never experienced anyone having a bad day at White Heron. + One of the most vegan friendly Portsmouth eateries weve found! Breakfast, Lunch, and early dinner, plus delicious vegan donuts and snacks!! + Coffee, consistently delicious coffee roasted in house and always fresh! + Community, wonderful patrons and sense of community that Portsmouth is known for. + Convenient, its just outside of downtown so we get the proximity to town without the traffic. + WiFi, its our go to place to work from when we want to get out of the house and interact with like minded people.

Other than the parking situation and the small lot, I love this place. Staff is very nice- the tea is incredible- never thought I would care much for their cold brewed version in the summer- the black tea- and it is so much better and has a jolt to do it- than any other summer time teas: and without all the sugar. Their hot tea varieties are amazing. Quinoa bowls are heaven; a good amount of space and great ambiance to hang out in the afternoons on the computer during a cold winter day. I dont usually get tempted with bakery items, but gluten free brownies, Pumpkin whoopie pies (when it is the fall): wow! Not the same old, same old sweets and much consideration is given if you have celiac or other food allergies.

I was so disappointed with everything about this place. I came here with someone who raved about it, but I didnt enjoy any of it. The food was incredibly overpriced, and I can imagine a world where SOMEONE might have liked the sandwich I ate, but it was definitely not for me. It seems like its trying to be hipster and original by serving fancy drinks and healthy food and by making stuff themselves, but it doesnt work. The space is also unpleasant - hard, uncomfortable seating, sound echoes, etc. They also try to trick you into tipping at the counter. I just feel that trying to stick a hippie crunchy place in an old store on Islington St is not the way to go - and it definitely doesnt work.

Exactly what I hope for in a local coffee shop. I was initially drawn here by the tea (which is served in various local establishments). The tea is very high quality and come in a number of flavorful combinations - many with rich fruits added. The coffee is also very good. Not outstanding, but up there with other local offerings. Food menu is limited, but great. Love the breakfast burritos! Very friendly staff and a cozy environment with tons of seating. I love the decor. They also have on-site parking.

The white heron is a lovely local place where you can grab a coffee or tea, get some work or reading done, or catch up with your friends. The ambiance is laid back, and the prices are budget friendly so this is somewhere you can hit several times a week, coffee quality is rather good and you can take some coffee by the pound home as well. I have tried their blueberry and chocolate scones and was less than impressed. I can certainly recommend you try this place, especially if you happen to be nearby.

Drove over an hour to experience this place. It was disappointing. I do hope it was an off day. Parking? A nightmare. Rude and disinterested person took my order, never smiled once. Actually gave me a "slow blink" and vague answer when I asked a question. The place could use a good cleaning too. My tea was good. I know good tea. Was thinking of reviewing it in my tea column this month, but I will give it one more chance. Im nothing if not fair.

Being from out of town I was pleasantly surprised by the array of vegan options. My boyfriend and I had their lentil dal over rice and it was delicious vegan comfort food in a clean, bustling setting. The person who helped us was very friendly and happy to tell us more about the area. Reliable wifi was also just what we needed while on the road.

I wouldnt recommend it. Scones were hard as a rock and disinterested ,weary staff. Might have been shift change or tea time. I would head to "Breaking New Grounds" up the street . The best chai I have ever had and a fun friendly group any time of day or evening . Just my opinion. However ,parking was pretty easy ..

I have only tried White Heron Sunny Citrus and Lavender Rooibus so far, but I can say that this tea is a very delectable and unique combination, (which I havent come across anywhere else) with a gentle flavor that is good any time, but especially very soothing for a sore throat.

A hipster haven among the rumbling Portsmouth! Step into the bourgeoisie comfort with MacBook illumination and artisan decor. The vast selection of drinks and handcrafted teapots for purchase temps ones wallet as the aroma seduces you into a caffeinated high.

Comfortable atmosphere for the casual coffee with friends, reading a book, or getting some work done. It can be very busy at times and seating is limited to 39 so sometimes its difficult to get a seat. The food is really good with a variety of vegan options!

Great tea, coffee, food, and blended drinks. I love the cold brew here. Kombucha on tap. Great selection of tea. Bright and open inside. One of few places in town that use unsweetened almond milk in case that matters to you.

White Heron is the shining star of Portsmouths West End. Its a beautiful coffee shop with tea and lunch options. It is spacious, a great place to work or meet up with friends. They even have live music on summer weekends!

My go-to here is the burrito royale (love the pumpkin seed pesto) and iced cran-apple-ginger iced tea. A weird combo for a tea/coffee place, but this is not your typical tea/coffee place. Sandwiches and salads are great.

Love this place. Great atmosphere, lots of light and great food and tea/coffee. Staff is always friendly and helpful. The rice bowl with coconut curry sauce is a must have! Lots of vegan and wheat free options.

I was not impressed by the overpriced doughnuts, they seem more like bad tasting muffins made into rings. I possibly came in during a shift change because the customer service is as lack luster as the wraps.

Nice beverages, delicious pastries, friendly staff, and a bright welcoming comfortable environment. The whole experience here is so much better than what you find at places like starbucks or dunkin donuts.

Excellent blueberry Lassi. Not too sweet and very good for you! Cafe was clean and spacious and have a nice selection of unique teas. My mother in law bought the coconut rooibos tea and loved it.

I was really disappointed, the tea was great but the service and food was awful. We paid $10 a piece for these tiny little breakfast burritos that were gross, I will not be going again.
