I love books and I love animals, so I was super excited to go here. However, within about 15 seconds of stepping into the store, my heart broke. As an animal lover, I was disgusted with the way the animals in the store were treated, specifically the ferret. I grew up with ferrets, and volunteered at a ferret shelter for two years, so Im familiar with their care. Ferrets are smart, social animals, who need company and stimulation. The ferret in this bookstore had one hammock, a litterbox, and the bottom of his cage was covered in newspapers. There were no toys, nothing stimulating, no company for this poor creature. Anyone who knows about ferrets understands that this guy is miserable and lonely in his environment. Though Im less familiar with chinchilla care, that animal was kept in similar conditions. There were pets in the floor, with children banging on the roof of their home to make them move. After a quick walk through of the store, we left. I refuse to support an establishment that keeps animals in unhappy conditions, bordering animal cruelty.

This is hands down probably the best family book store in the US. Very very proud to have it in our city. From the wandering chickens to the calm, tailless cats; from the spooky book tunnel to the little door within a big door You can use to enter the store, Wild Rumpus goes beyond shelves with good books for kids to a full sensory experience. The staff actually knows about books, and it would be a sad sad day if Wild Rumpus were to close, so you feel genuinely motivated to buy some books and support places like this, places that make kids feel utterly welcome and loved and joyful about reading, animals, and more. Plus its in a great area, so coffee, dining, gift shopping, bakeries and ice cream can all be part of the same trip. We go often, and love to bring people from out of town. Everyone wishes they had a store like this!

Yes, it is a beautiful store with lots of interesting things around every corner. BUT I cant help but give 1 star for extremely RUDE staff. Imagine visiting from 4 hours away on the glowing reviews of many other families and not being spoken to ONCE until you checked out. Im not sure if the older of the two women was just in a bad mood or maybe doesnt like strollers but she seemed disgusted at our presence. Bought our 3 books and hit the road. The one good thing about this place was that it led us to some amazing little places down around the corner. Would NOT go out of the way for this place again and wouldnt recommend it to others.

We took a preschool fieldtrip to Wild Rumpus and were amazed at the kindness of the staff and the pure joy we found in each little nook of the store. This store is pure magic beginning with the tiny child sized door at the enterance, to the magic mirror in the bathroom! There are tons of animals, a great story reading area with storytellers, and fun little details all over the place. The book selection is really awesome too- TONS of unique books Ive never seen at any other store.

When we first walked in I was super excited because they have such a wonderful selection of books, and they even have cats, chickens, birds, and a couple other animals in the store that my son loved! I was highly disappointed in the service! Not one associate greeted us, helped direct us in the right direction, or made us feel welcome. I did end up buying my son a few books because their selection is amazing, but I really wish they would have been more friendly and inviting.

Absolutely unparalleled as a bookstore for children and young adults. Expertly guided by a creative and passionate staff, Wild Rumpus is a wonderfully whimsical bookstore in every way -- from the various creatures roaming the store to the miniature door set into its entrance. Its selection of books is well-curated -- recommendations made at Wild Rumpus are not to be ignored! -- and the events it hosts are great for kids.

An amazing selection of childrens books for all ages along with one of the most fun experiences around in-store make this not only an institution, but a way to help build a love of reading in kids. Whats more, you can touch books, explore and really find the books that mean something to you or to give as a gift. Skip the interwebs and come here.

This is a great bookstore. The employees really know and understand children and the books meant for them. There are fun displays, little corners to read in, and interesting pets wandering around. The only drawback is that it only has street parking, and that can be difficult to find, especially before their very popular story time.

Hands down greatest childrens book store ever. From the mini door to enter to all the animals, not to mention the great selection (far greater than a larger store like Barnes and Noble) of books, this is a store youll be more than happy to bring your children back to. Oh and Sebastian Joes ice cream is just around the corner.

Although I did find it a little overwhelming, it still is a good place to find kids books. They even had a selection of books for grown ups. There are a few critters wandering around for kids to pet. Visiting this bookstore is an event in itself, and its great to support local businesses.

THE childrens bookstore of the Twin Cities. Trained and tamed animals are all about, from friendly felines to rabbits, to maybe a ferret or two around the store. Cozy places to read and explore their selection, and dont forget to go in the bathroom and shut off the light for a surprise.

You can not beat this place for customer service, willingness to go above and beyond by staff - and experience for children and grown ups alike. Ive said this to my friends before, they should have a cover charge for this fabulous place! Thanks, Amy Nymark

Always love going to Wild Rumpus. Not only a great selection of childrens books, but also lovingly organized and reviewed to help kids and parents find new favorites. Good reduced price used section in back. And of course theres the birds, cats, and ferrets.

If all bookstores were like this Amazon would be broke. Fantastic selection, knowledgable and helpful staff and kids of cozy little corners to read to your little one. My three year old would happily spend a year in here, and I would be broke as a result.

Great place to bring the kids, they have a couple of cats roaming the store along with a chicken. There are also many caged critters which make the whole experience more interesting. Friendly staff and average prices for a book store that sells new books.

Great book selection! Definitely a wide range of prices but you do pay for the experience! There were a chicken, cats, ferrets, birds, and more animals that were more than happy to interact with people. Great place for kids and family.
