Born and raised in Chicago, my family discovered Apple Valley during a summer visit to SW Michigan. Mom was thrilled to find a grocery that carried so many different varieties of healthy foods, herbs (for cooking as well as medicinal), spices, vitamins, supplements, water filters, and more along with a great deli. The prices are much less than we could find in Chicago. Staff is knowledgeable and eager to help. At the time, according to Dad, Mom "was as big as a barn" as my birth was due in two weeks. And weve been returning ever since so Ive been a fan since before my birth.

If you are into natural foods, Apple Valley is the best place to go in Berrien Springs. They have many of the healthy foods one would expect. If youre vegan, youll love the place. You wont find any meat there so if youre a meat lover you will have to get that somewhere else. They also have a section in the back with cooked food and a cafe at the front with all kinds of neat things to eat. The only problem is that its a little on the pricey side.

One of the most interesting grocery stores Ive ever visited - its like a local grocery with a full line of Spartan brand products except theres no meat, caffeine, or alcohol because of the seventh day Adventist influence. The store also boasts a separate natural food section that is stocked with all of the organic and natural essentials plus much more including bulk foods and homeopathic medicines.

For some this is as good as it gets when it comes to having a health food store, but this is an outdated model, something that used to be it. Overpriced, condescending service, almost impossible to return something that is spoiled/out of date. Spend few more hours and get a fresher, cheaper and better produce at Whole Foods. It will be worth your dollar and your time.
