HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! My boyfriend and I went in to buy some beer and wine. We were in Boston celebrating our 3 year anniversary. We are both 21 years of age and from the state of Rhode Island. When we went to check out, the cashier looked at our licenses and then brought it to the back room without any word to us. She came back and said "Nope" while shaking her head. We asked her what was going on and she replied, "Theyre are fakes". We proceeded to tell her that she was mistaken and asked to speak to her manager. When we met her manager we assured him that they were real and asked how he came to that conclusion. I asked him if he had a scanner or any legitimate way to confirm his accusation. He replied " I dont need one". We then asked for our IDs back and he refused and said we could call the police if we wanted them back. He was extremely rude and disrespectful. We called the police. After 2+ hours of waiting, we missed our reservations and finally a police officer arrived. The manager pulled our IDs from his back pocket and handed it to the police officer. The officer informed us that it was a 5 year felony if they were fake. We told the officer they werent and asked him to scan them. After about a minute or less, he came back in and handed us our IDs saying that they were indeed real. Instead of apologizing for what he had done, the manager then said "okay, well officer, I exercise my right not to serve them". We replied, "as if we would ever purchase anything from you after what you did". The manager replied "thats why they pay me the big bucks". Never in my life have I been treated with such disrespect. I urge you to go ABSOLUTELY anywhere else.

I would never recommend Clarendon Wine Co. to anyone. This place is the least professional institution I have ever visited. On my last visit I went to buy a bottle of wine when I had in the past been a customer. The employee behind the counter believed that my drivers license was fake and proceeded to tell me that they would not give it back to me with a sarcastic attitude. I did not put up a fight at all since I know it is their job. He then directed me to go speak with the manager. Before I could even open my mouth the manager started screaming and cursing at me in front of about 12 other people in the store. You could tell by everyones reaction that they too felt very uncomfortable with his reaction. I did nothing to lead on such harassment as I did everything they asked me to do. I understand that the store is liable for their actions but he was extremely unprofessional in how he treated me and handled the situation. I then proceeded to have the police come to so I could get back my drivers license. I did receive it back because it was clearly not fake. Do not go here! Save yourself the embarrassment since my ID was clearly real as proven by the police!

My ID is a CT adult learners permit - while I can understand that this is one that some stores dont see often, is is a VALID ID and I have been served at many other restaurants and liquor stores around the city with no problem. Even when my age is in question (Im young looking, I get it), a simple scan verifies it. Here, the manager insisted that it was fake, and I was shown a CT license as "proof" that they knew it wasnt real, despite the fact that a license and an adult learners permit are two different things. The manager then apparently instructed the cashier to take my ID - luckily she was more understanding and gave it back, although obviously without serving me. First of all, its illegal to take someones ID because of the probability that you might be STEALING someones real government ID. Im surprised they havent gotten into trouble for this already - or maybe they have and dont care, who knows. This place needs to get on the ball and have some actual means of verification that isnt solely reliant on a managers shoddy guesswork. Luckily there are plenty of other places to go that recognize a real ID. Plus, the selection was laughable. Go literally anywhere else.

HORRIBLE experience here. The owner of the store confiscated my ID because he believed it was fake (I was a REAL NC ID and Im 26). He refused to speak to me and said he would only talk to the Boston police to get it back so I had to call 911 and wait 2 hours for cops to arrive so I could get it back. During that time, one of the store associates, an Australian guy, was making fun of me for being upset. I have never experienced the rudeness from the people working there, especially the manager. According to a restaurant worker next door, this happens at least once a week and the manager makes them call the cops and wait for hours for them to get their IDs back. Absolutely ridiculous.

Pricey with limited selection. If youre stocking up for a party this isnt the place but they do sell individual bottles from any 6 pack which is good in a pinch.
