I worked for the company and can tell you without a doubt the owner seeks to provide low cost product with the highest possible customer service support. He clearly understands the market demand and has gone out of his way to correct mistakes(refreshing considering big corporation support). The Louisville location has adapted to both the customer and employee needs of our current market. They are in high demand as that sort of service should be; therefore they cant always respond to your needs/concerns immediately. The Newport location is a little different. The owner hired an ex-Lowes manager that manages the place like Lowes...go figure. As a result they have low customer service, low retention, and high employee/customer turnover. Your ideas and suggestions are worthless here and the only employees with 1 year or more tenure are management. The other new hires are temporary but that is how Lowes management looks at employees..Builders Surplus employees at Newport have no clue about plumbing, drywall, flooring, electrical, lighting, or foundation work of any type. Dont believe me? Just ask them about the work they "did". Bottom line !

I have made a number of purchases from Builders Surplus and have found them to be significantly cheaper on windows, flooring, doors, and molding. This place is bare-bones and no frills. Some things are way cheaper than big-box stores and some things are not. Although they have an on-site design center for custom cabinets, I did not use them. For me, it takes about an hour one way to get there, but the money I saved was worth the drive. We just renovated our home with 5-inch wide oak floors and saved about $2,000. Also bought our front door from there - very well made and saved about $300 as well. I will be renovating the detached garage to turn it into my workshop. Ill be going back to buy windows and tile. Overall, I have been very pleased with the quality of materials and help from the sales staff. Been there multiple times and the staff has always been very friendly and eager to assist. This is worth at least a visit.

We had a great experience with Builders Surplus during our recent kitchen remodel. Sherry was our designer and she was fantastic. She designed what we asked for and only had to make minor tweaks. She offered upgrades, but didnt pressure us to purchase them. She was always supportive of our decisions. We installed the cabinets with our own installer and when there was an issue, she would talk us through it - always happy to help and we never felt like we were bothering her. Service after the sale with Builders Surplus and Sherry were more than we expected. We highly recommend them for any project. Their products come in different levels of quality, and we found the prices to be reasonable and much better than the big box and custom stores. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be a repeat customer when we build our next home.

I live in Louisville. I was looking for salvage windows/ Louisville only had 1 window that would work so I called the Newport store. I spoke with Marvin who went through their inventory to make sure the trip would be worth my time before the long drive. Once I arrived in Newport Marvin went above AND beyond to assist. He helped us go over our entire blueprint, looked through every possible window that might work, climbed a ladder and pulled 8 windows down to so I could look them over. I ended up purchasing 6 windows. The time and effort was absolutely worth going to Newport. Marvin was amazing and the entire staff was extremely attentive and helpful.

In May i came in and bought Waypoint kitchen cabinets. My cabinets were order and came to me in a timely matter. After putting the cabinets up i didnt like the W930L, On July 14 I order a W1230L , my paper work layed on someone desk for 3 weeks after calling for 2 days they called to tell me my order was never placed.....They promise to put a rush on the order instead i get call from Kevin saying that my 1 Cabinet would not be back until September 12. I got a whole room of kitchen cabinets back faster. I am very displeased with the service i have got from Builder Surplus. ... ...Wow from July 14 to September 12 to get one cabinet...

We Worked with Tricia for our layout and design. She was great and gave us the 2D and 3D layouts to start with. We made a few modifications and the rest is history. The cabinets were delivered on time and on the date promised. The installers arrived the next day as planned and did a wonderful job on putting them in. Waiting for the counter top now. Chris was out this morning to measure for the template. Everyone was great and delivered as they said they would. The Wellborn cabinets are really beautiful and look better than we expected. Our thanks to all for a jobe well done.

I want to thank Beverly for all her assistance. I live in Atlanta Ga and was trying to find a grout color that is not available in the Atlanta area. I called Builders Surplus in KY by accident thinking I was getting the Atlanta store, Beverly assisted me and discovered the color I needed they had in stock. She set up the purchase and shipped it to me in Atlanta. Customer service has left most retail stores but Beverly went above and beyond to assist a customer that would never enter her door. Thank you so much for everything.

My order was placed on April 21, 2015 and still as of June 5, 2015 only partial work has been done. This order and install was paid in full on April 21. I have found no saving going to Builders Surpuls, I should of went with first thought which was LOWES. Dont believe the hipe! There has been little to no cummincation; put of my own accord. Highl dissatisfied. The measuring was done Builders Surpuls and wrong.The thing of it all is, I only live 2 miles from the store. Layout was changed much to my dislike.

Called to check if a particular door I needed was available. Was told they were busy, but someone would call me back. Waited two hours, no call. I called back and was told yes, they have the door. I drove to their store and they didnt have it and it was apparent they had not checked before telling me it was available. Hour and a half round trip in traffic. Will not use them again and will tell everyone about the indifferent, incompetent attempt at customer service.

I dont get the hype. I walked in on a calm Sunday and was ignored by every staff member in the store. Upon approaching several, I was promptly blown off. I know I look young, but it seems wrong to seek out older customers instead of working with the one asking for help. Needed a complete remodeling of a bathroom and flooring for a basement. I had allotted $7,000 for the floor and bathroom. I guess my money will go elsewhere.

Called to ask a question about something I bought 2 years ago, before even telling them what I needed or wanted (a phone number of the guy that put our countertop on), she proceed to say its out of warranty and they arent paying to fix it and that I was wrong.... beware! All I needed was a number and some young girl makes an ass of herself... warranty this warranty that...
