I went into this store for the first time, and was asked to put my small and full purse into a locker at the entrance. I understand protecting inventory but this was ridiculous. After 4 minutes of putting my purse in, waiting for someone to put in a token and getting a key, I went on to look for my selection. The selection was great, almost comparable to Cheers except their fine wine. When I found my selection, after being followed through the entire store as if I was going to steel something, I saw something with a members discount and was looking to join, not just to get the discount but to receive further rewards. After making my selection, I went to the cashier who asked for my ID, of course, and for my husbands. He left his in the car and was not purchasing, yet was asked to leave the store in a rude manner. I then proceeded to ask for a membership twice and was not given that. The cashier continued to check me out without registering me. After I presented a gift card for a portion of the total, I had to wait for a manager to be called and yet one of the managers was standing behind the cashier and did nothing for a few minutes. She then stepped in. After the discount (not the membership card I asked for but a separate discount) was registered, she asked again for my ID to make sure it matched my debit card (that has my picture directly on it anyways). Instead of making customers go through this horrendous process where you feel like youre being admitted into a prison, their money would be best spent hiring security instead of doing it themselves because of one theft incident picture they posted EVERYWHER in the store. As a marketing and public relations professional, this liquor store has a great selection but NOT the customer service and reputation it could have because of their distrust of ANY customer walking in the door. I saw other customers leave frustrated and dissatisfied with their experience as well.

First time in this store today. We went there because Power Liquor Mart didnt have Boags beer. SLO didnt either but I didnt expect them to, its kind of an imported speciality. First impression was that they have had security problems since I had to send my wife back to the Jeep with her purse. Suggestion: pull out the broken carts. Not that many people use the carts anyway, and having to go through four of them before finding one that we could use was a little annoying. Went through the store aisle by aisle and looked at all the wares. Seemed to have a good selection of the every day run of the mill wine, liquor, whiskey and beer as well a fairly well thought out selection of not so common. I was in the store for about an hour or so and I was approached by no less than four employees to see if I was finding everything I needed. We selected a bottle of Chambord vodka but had no idea how to drink it or what to do with it. The employee we talked to was informative and helpful. SLO does carry a brand of beer that many other stores in town dont (Arrogant Bastard). All in all we purchased about $100 worth and was offered a membership on check out. The owner was very pleasant to us and boxed our items and helped us to the door. I will be going back...I gave SLO four stars instead of five because when I asked one employee if they had BOAG beer, he did try to find it, but he didnt offer to order it. I would have gladly paid up front for a special order. I dont know if SLO does special orders but if they did, they would have my business for good. Was very happy with my visit...and I would gladly recommend it to any of my friends. In fact I already have. I dont have any whiny friends or friends who are too good for a warehouse environment so they will all give it a try. We are more than happy to accomodate whatever security the store owner feels is necessary to keep her prices down and her customers safe.

I was so excited about this place. Ive been a loyal customer here for going on 8 months (since I moved to the area) because they have a great selection. Their prices are a little on the higher side, as Ive found the same items for cheaper elsewhere. And it smells a little funny -- Ive never been able to pinpoint the source of it. But the selection was good, so I kept going back. However, today they lost my loyalty, which is a shame since my husband and I spend hundreds on quality wine, craft beers and top shelf liquor each month. I recently lost my CO drivers license, and the only substitute picture ID had was my passport, which had my maiden name on it. So, I had supporting documentation, including a social security card, a prescription, and a bill. These were all sufficient to get me through TSA on a recent trip and get my new license restored, which is still in the mail. However, they refused to provide me with service -- even though Ive been here more than once a week on a weekly basis for months. The manager told me "it was store policy." They should seriously adopt more reasonable policies. And so much for local service. Such a shame. I may still go back if I cant find something Im looking for, but as for regular business there are plenty of mom and pop shops that could use -- and probably appreciate -- a loyal customer better.

I used to think these guys were great. But, theyre terrible. I was a loyal customer for nearly 10 years. I loved their selection and their prices arent bad. But, their customer service and policies suck! I bought over $100 worth of beer, liquor and ice for a get-together at my house. I got home and my wife said I bought her the wrong 6-pack of what I thought was her favorite beer. I called and talked to a store manager, explained what happened and that I had a receipt, the beer in its original box and if theyd make an exchange. She said, "No," and went on to explain that they have a strict no-exchange policy and that its apparently posted in the store. Theres so much stuff all over the store, Im not sure Id even seen this sign. Not to mention, its not on the receipt. I wasnt even asking for a refund, just an exchange to a beer that someone in my house will drink. Im not going back to that place again. I used to overlooked their sucky atmosphere and the feeling like they assumed anyone who walks in is a criminal (complete with bars on the windows and an suspecting eye when you walk in). I cant believe theyd risk losing a long-time customer to an exchange worth less than $9.00. In short - DO NOT GO THERE!

I am in shock that this place is able to keep their doors open. The worst customer service I have ever had to endure and it is getting worse. This place is right down the street from my house so I would occasionally stop in for a bottle of wine for me and the Mrs and just deal with their horrible and outright rude customer service. However last night, not 1 step into the door with my wife and we were treated like criminals because my wife had her purse with her. I have never seen or heard employees of any business be as rude and disrespectful to their customers. These people dont seem to understand the roles that customers play in their business. Seriously, one step into the door and we were treated like criminals, as if we were going to rob them. What is even more amusing is when we turned around and left in utter disgust, the gang of employees that hover over the only set of doors that are unblocked acted like they "won"... Me and the Mrs simply drove a few blocks further down the road and gave our money to a different liquor where we received amazing service and were treated like people. We will never again go back to this place and will tell as many as we can about their awful customer service.
