The staff here is not equipped to provide adequate doggie daycare services. When I first inquired about daycare services, I made sure to verify that small dogs and large dogs would be separated, as they are in most daycares, because my small dog does not do well with larger dogs. I was assured they would be kept separately -- but this is not true. My dog was put into an anxiety-producing atmosphere with lots of large dogs, to which he did not respond well. Instead of providing positive reinforcement to my dog, the staff instead put him on a leash anytime he barked. (I had also told the owner that my dog does not respond well to being leashed and for that reason I prefer to take him to daycares where is able to run and play all day.) After four visits to Animal Kingdom, I was told my dog was no longer welcome at their store because he barks too much. Im not sure what the staff thought would happen at a doggie daycare, but every other daycare Ive been to is full of barking pups. After all of this, I was talked down to and berated for my dogs behavior and overcharged for the services requested. The products in the store are nice, but do your dog a favor and find another place to play!

Animal Kingdom is a great stop for kids who like to look at animals, and a precious resource for local residents. This tiny little pet shop on Pico and 3rd was owned and operated by a Santa Monica local for ~30 years and is still family operated today. The (not so new) new owners are SUPER nice and helpful, and now Animal Kindom offers indoor/outdoor doggie day care until 6pm for significantly less than local competitors. Animal Kingdom still features excellent service, LOTS of standard supplies. There are fewer and super cool animals for sale and the GIANT IGUANA (not for sale - but it was the biggest Ive ever seen) has been replaced by a resident PARROT, which my bird dog finds much more interesting. When I first went to Animal Kingdom (many years ago now) they didnt carry the specific flavor of premium dog food we use at home, but they were super friendly and happy to special order it for me. Had to take in a friends dog for a flea bath, it was effective and seemed to be the going rate. Also, open on Mondays (many pet groomers werent). All was up to expectation and didnt take too long. Staff was nice.

Love this place! Helpful, friendly staffs. Took great care of Stanley. This is a great place to shop for my dog, cat and even our sulcata tortoise. Excellent groomer and great place for a doggy daycare.
