In a state of misery when my hard drive failed + no backup in sight I was banging my head against the wall for my own stupidity of not backing up my data. Were talking years and years of photos from all my adventures since over the world. I tried myself to recover the files using a program suggested by western digital but no to avail the thing would find my data. After calling a different few places I had gotten quotes anywhere from $200 up to $5000 for possibly recovering my data. At this point im starting to sweat since theres no chance I have that kind of cash lying around. I finally decided to try these guys since they were in Manhattan and when I spoke with Yury over the phone he sounded very professional. He said I can bring the drive in and hell do an evaluation for free then call me with the results. I had nothing to lose so I dropped off the drive and about 2 days later got a call from Yury. The results were in: The drive was definitely failing but it hadnt hit a catastrophic point yet, he recommend a level two recovery which if successful would cost me $329. He expected it to take about 2-3 days to complete and only if he recovered the data would I have to pay. DONE! I gave the go ahead and after a few days of nervously waiting his call I got the news. 98% recovered. Ill take it. I went to the store that afternoon and he let me review all the files that were recovered. Pretty much everything was there and I was elated. Start to finish these guys rocked. In a city where I feel like I constantly get the run around they did what they said they would when they were supposed to do it. Ill take that all day long.

After living in the city for so long, I have noticed that every time I try to buy something it is almost impossible to find what I am looking for. So when I realized I needed a replacement laptop, I was a bit concerned about what I would find locally for my sub $600 price range. I tried BestBuy but consumer stores only sell the newest products with crap I dont need or the size was too big. So I searched for used laptops and behold, Computer Overhauls was right near my office. However, I didnt even have to go there to look because they list and spec every laptop they have in stock. I was able to sort and research before I even went. The place is NOT a storefront with a cheesy window displays, a musty smell and a warzone of parts everywhere. They are in an office building, their laptops are boxed neatly and labeled and they have techs sitting at neat desks working on machines. I sat down with Angie for only 20 mins and she showed me 7 different units before I finally pulled the trigger on an almost flawless MacBook Pro! I have always wanted one but could never justify the ticket price in the past. In the end I spent less on it than a brand new crappy gimmicky plastic windows unit that weighs almost 2x as much. Plus they give you 30 days return, 90 day warranty, and an option to buy an extended warranty as well. Very satisfied with the company and have already told 2 people about it in just 24 hrs.

I can never get used to the new Lenovos, with their 16x9 screen, a non-standard keyboard where I cannot find keys, and above all, an idiotic "clickpad". They are simply unusable as laptops, so I decided to stock up on a Lenovo T500 before they disappear (T500 is the last 15 inch model with 16x10 screen). The T500 I bought from Computer Overhauls arrived on time, and was well packed. The computer was as described, except the keyboard was a lot shiner than I expected (the quality of pictures on the eBay listing could be better), and the Linux distribution did not really work (errors everywhere). I replaced the keyboard with a T61 keyboard (a lot sturdier), cleaned the interior, put in fresh CPU paste, updated the BIOS, and did a fresh installation of Vista Business. Now I have a machine with near HD resolution (1680x1050), full - standard - keyboard, for less than half of the price of a Chromebook. That is a bargain. In conclusion this is a satisfactory purchase from Computer Overhauls. I am placing the laptop in storage and will use it after my 14 inch T61 dies (1440x900). I hope this new T500 will prove to be as good as the T61.

You see, this is hilarious; after everytime someone writes a bad review about this place, they try to undermine it by writing a phony good review. The truth is, this place sucks: their selection of USED laptops is nothing more than refurbished garbage. They get them by luring unassuming people with their false promise of a free diagnosis, only to fix the laptop and charge way too much. If you cant pay and you leave your laptop there, theyll keep it and try to resell it; its happened to my friend. They got me too with an iPod. I brought it there and asked them what is wrong with it; thinking theyll honor their free diagnostics promise. They fixed it without my permission and charged me for it. When I got it home and tried to charge it, it wouldnt charge. So I brought it back and they said that it was the battery that needed changing. Then I went to Apple and they told me, for free, that it was the hard drive and not the battery. I went back to Computer Overhauls and they had no scruples about blatantly lying and even tried to charge me for a new hard drive, which wouldve costed almost as much as a brand new iPod.

I didnt want to deal with selling online or to one of the mail-in companies even if their pricing was a bit higher because you have no control over the situation. They have all of the leverage whereby they can say that they received your item and the physical condition was not what you detailed to them, thus they haggle you down in conjunction with the fact that it could be a week or more of a process. As such, I live in NYC and just wanted to go somewhere in the city that would pay in the realm of the expected ballpark, have me in and out in 10 minutes and pay cash. I found three such companies when diligencing this, and Comp. Ohauls was on the higher end of the range price wise, honest over the phone with said pricing, and professional to deal with in person. In short, I was in and out of their store (which is in a Class A/B office building, not a sketchy storefront) in 15 minutes and was paid in cash the exact amount that was promised over the phone and email. These guys are honest, fair, and trustworthy which is a rarity in NYC let alone that line of business. Would definitely recommend them.

I had the opportunity to purchase a used 15.6" ASUS K53E laptop a month ago on eBay and was overall incredibly satisfied with the price, condition of the unit and efficiency in delivering the product. Shipping was free to anywhere in the USA and the unit also included a 90 day warranty on the product that showed me how much faith Computer Overhauls has in the computers that they sell. After my purchase, I had the opportunity to recommend them to a friend that was looking for a similar laptop to mine and I had the chance to look over that unit as well when my friend got it. Similar to my experience, that laptop was in very good condition and his experience was identical to mine with regards to his purchase. I will continue to recommend Computer Overhauls to friends who might be in the market for well refurbished laptops from a reliable vendor that also offer warranties on their products. Thank you for an excellent transaction and look forward to another opportunity to purchase further laptops from you.
