The Band

The staff was rude to customers at times when they pay by check one of them would ask to see their photo ID then make comments about age and appearance. How completely unprofessional. It was fun working here and I was surprised I was offered a job here. The staff is using Amazon to search books. One time I was not scheduled on the calendar and I was graduating from University of California San Diego and planning my summer trip to Europe. So it was time to move on. I get in trouble from the employee manager calling back a week later to get my paycheck. Even upon picking up my paycheck I was given attitude, instead of good luck all the best. Some customers were nice here. It was strange that kids wanted to be on the list for the dumb Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I am an MGF YA writer who is going to blow that book out of the water. It was also funny because the first day on the job a coworker tells me that no relationship (with a Navy SEAL) has ever resulted at this job. And it fact very true. The irony being that it is my cousin (Im cousins once removed) who is a legendary Navy SEAL trainer in the books there in that store. And my godfather in the first class resented ever teaching those dudes which way is up.

I love this bookstore!! Staff is very personal; the shelves are stocked with all kinds of books for every kind of reader. Besides books Bay Books is filled with greeting cards and small gifts when one is looking for just the right present for that special person. Thank goodness for independent bookstores! As a longtime reader and writer for me the reading experience is very tactile. Getting the opportunity to touch, feel and relish in both hardbacks and paperbacks is exhilarating! Long may the independent book stores live!!

Upbeat Downbeat

I love the personal recommendations written by employees, Ive discovered several favorites from them. The skylit interior is usually uncrowded, the perfect way to get out of the sun for an hour or so and get some books and magazines to read in your hotel room or take home. Something about this store makes me stop by coming from LaJolla to the airport. This bookstore always makes me happy, definitely in my top ten anywhere.

Its great to have a local bookstore here on the "island," and have a place to peruse the shelves. Occasional author signings, and a few years ago they used to have a great little monthly book club I attended. Get a book here and grab a coffee at the Cafe Madrid coffee kiosk outside. A perfect lazy afternoon.

Local bookshop. Dont come here expecting large amounts of books. However, small selection is more than made up for with the friendly staff!
