The owner is a rude and cantankerous man who cannot take criticism from a disappointed paying customer. My wife and I decided to go here for lunch given its local popularity. We ordered fried okra and fried green tomatoes, my wife had a bunless chili cheeseburger, and I had a bunless double bacon cheeseburger. While we thought the fried okra and tomatoes were okay (the tomatoes were a bit undercooked, saturated with oil, and unseasoned), the bacon double cheeseburger was not good at all. One bite was all it took. These were dry, gummy, tasteless patties with an unappealing smell that is all too reminiscent of a poor quality, frozen processed hamburger. The bacon was cold and rubbery. My wife ate hers, but smothered in chili sort of saved it. Disappointed from having read so many good reviews (and starving), I had to send my dish back. To our horror, the owner angrily marches into the dining area, plate in hand, demanding to argue with me about it in front of the other customers. How embarrassing! I calmly explained the reasons, that these burgers were not fresh (which they admit to) and that I was very unhappy with it. He replied that there was nothing wrong with it (fresh to him means that it was just cooked) and steamed off visibly upset. No attempt was made to correct it or replace the dish with another. And as a bigger slap in the face, he ordered the server to charge us for it anyway! This caused another scene since I refused to pay for food I didnt eat (which he claims I ate half of, not that that should matter anyway), and says I’m the first person in 10 years to complain about the burgers. I guess the tiny bit of fame has gone to his head if he can’t take valuable feedback about the quality of the food he’s serving to paying customers. The only voice raised was his. He asked us where we’re from (how’s that relevant?), commented “well you can’t please everybody,” and he actually told us we’re not welcome back; we will, of course, oblige him.

I cant say Ive ever had anything here other than the fried green tomato BLT and thats pretty much because its so freaking amazing, I have to get every time I come here. There are plenty of other tasty things to try, but that dang sandwich is too good to cheat on. Get the yam fries with their special Fever Sauce while youre at it. The Tomato Place is funky and has a hippie eclectic vibe about it. Grab a loaf of bread, a basket of delish home grown tomatoes and some local honey to take with you while youre there. Its well worth the stop and one of the few places I take visitors when they come to stay with me.

My husband and I are driving back to Texas and read good reviews about The Tomato Place. The food was okay but the service was so unfriendly. As he ordered they stopped my husband mid-sentence to take a long phone call. Food took 45 minutes to get out even though we were one of 3 tables in the whole place. The server offered jam and never came back, even to ask how the food was. At the end, she asked if wed gotten the jam she never brought and when we said no, she said "Oh." The Tomato Place might be good for locals who dont mind a long wait but travelers will get a cold reception and cold food.

Everything was excellent! We had a wonderful meal. He had a Jamican Burger & I had the Tomato Place Pie which is veggies & cheese baked like a veggie lasagna. Sides were okra with a very light batter, delicious! A marinated salad with peeled tomatoes, slivers of onion & bell pepper & sliced cucumbers on a bed of lettuce, the best Ive had in a long time if not forever! Fried green tomatoes cooked to perfection, not too much batter, not overcooked! Sweet potato chips, just thick enough to taste the sweet potato... Baked. and Ice tea. YUM!

What a find! Friendly staff. Cute, funky, hole-in-the-wall doubles as a roadside veggie stand. Food was really delicious! Fried catfish with fried okra and hand cut fries. Great, lightly seasoned batter. Fry was light, not greasy/heavy. Salad tasted of pickled veggies. And a fried green tomato BLT great with a rye swirl bread. We enjoyed it! A little gem that we will return to.

Very friendly staff. I had the BBQ burger, it was great. Very filling. Served with fried okra and a salad. Both were delicious. My husband had the jerk burger. Served with sliced yams. He said it was fantastic. Good food all around. Lemonade was also tasty, not to sweet.

Ive just had the best sandwich! This place is adorable, the staff is friendly and sweet, but the food is definitely the start here. The best part of the experience was a fried green tomato and avocado blt minus the bacon (Im a vegetarian) on pumpernickel! Delicious!!!!

What a fun experience The Tomato Place was. The food was excellent (a little slow, but to be fair, they were pretty busy). Make sure you get a smoothie, too - pick one from the freezer and take to the counter to have them prepare it.

What a great little funky place. Best BLT I have ever had. Who would guess that this out of the way little place would be so good. Great for lunch. Not sure about other meals. Very busy. They sell local produce there too. Try it!

Great food. Cozy, ramshackle building with "character". Very friendly staff. I had the fried green Tomato BLT and it was great. The tasty lemonade was real lemonade, you know, from an actual lemon.

One of the best restaurants in Vicksburg. Quaint setting draws in people from all over the world. Even the Duck Commander boys have dined here. Stop by and take home a taste of the Old South.
