Speaking on two separate experiences with the bakery: the first cake we had was amazing - loads of flavor and filling. The second cake we ordered left much to be desired - and the only difference between the two cakes was the filling I ordered. The first cake was icing-filled whereas the second was cream-"filled". There was literally less than 2 mm of "filling" in said "filled" cake. You couldnt taste it if you tried, and it left the cake a little dry. The 4 corners and border of the cake actually had NO filling whatsoever. This was an $80 cake JUST FOR A HALF SHEET! So, I called the bakery to let them know of my disappointment with the filling. They didnt budge; just stated thats how they do things with the cream/gel "fillings". PLEASE consumers, know that if you want ANY cream or gel filling, you should expect minimum to no filling as "it will not stick to the top layer" and you will just be eating two layers of plain cake. So save your money on the double layer and just order single layer sheet cake from here UNLESS you plan to get icing as your filling.

If youre going to be open during a renovation you need to be willing to go the distance to ensure construction is adequately segregated from grocery operations. In retrospect, I didnt realize the amount of effort Albertsons, Walmart, and Whole Foods had put into this aspect of renovation until you see what a half baked attempt looks like. I cant say definitively that there are safety issues, but when you see chunks of drywall being removed on the same day that someone is wiping off dust thats settled on produce, you have to wonder. The plastic-sheeting curtains look questionable in terms of their installation, old sometimes mildewed (looking) fiberglass insulation hangs overhead amongst a maze of wires. Frankly, considering the price of their products, I expect more. Staff is usually friendly and courteous. Alcohol selection is impressive. And overall product variety is good. I look forward to revisiting after the renovation but I cant recommend shopping here in the meantime.

Roberts Fresh Market is where the old Mathernes used to be on Highland Road. At the time of this writing they are open but still under construction. This means that from one visit to another you might have to ask where something has been moved to. But...they carry a good selection of gourmet foods and they have a great kitchen serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have a gourmet chef on staff to answer any questions you may have about how to prepare a meal, what to serve to a gathering of any size and what the best the store has to offer might be. (Their hot-food line and grab&go sections feature delicious meals mainly prepared by Chef John himself.) Do your taste buds a favor and pay the new store a visit!

Im looking forward to the renovation being finished. Right now, things arent looking too pretty. By fall, things will be bright and shiny. The store belongs to an independent grocery consortium. Prices for consortium supplied products are reasonably priced. They have been bringing in more products that are not from the parent company which are far more expensive. I have found the people in management to be responsive and friendly. This store is a mile from my house. Im looking forward to the renovation to being done. If I can do the bulk of my shopping just down the street. Ill be really happy. When that happens, Ill reassess my review.

As soon as I walked in and approached the produce section, I was impressed with their selection. The employees actually seem very happy here. The construction is on the outside of the customers. 4 stars not 5 because their prices are high. I will come back for sure.

Hot deli is all by the pound no matter what you get, which is both good and bad depending on what you get, but the deli meat is on another level from any other nearby.

Great variety and service. The prepared foods section has great fried chicken and boiled crawfish. They always have a good selection of local products as well
