I moved to Bloomington in the fall of 2015 and happened upon Hopscotch my first full day in town. I was accustomed to high quality coffee through my travels and own personal endeavors, and had hoped that the sleek, artistic facade of Hopscotch would contribute to an equally polished cup of coffee. This was not the case. I have frequented this store since my arrival, and time after time the coffee is only alright. Having given this shop multiple opportunities to wow me, my final verdict is in. The pour overs are almost always under-extracted. The espresso for lattes is almost always over extracted and bitter. This shops saving grace is that the drip is inexpensive and alright. If they have a single origin espresso available, give it a shot (I certainly was impressed). Otherwise, dont expect specialty coffee quality like you would find in Columbus (OH), Nashville (TN), or Denver (CO) from this shop.

Im in town for a quick visit and meant to stop here for ages (it was just being built as I was moving away) and finally have! I have been craving lavender latte since last March when I tried it out in Seattle. It was common there but not so much here. Love that they DO have this year and its so velvety smooth. The coffee itself is a perfect base. Glad I finally made it in! Friendly staff, smells amazing in here, and plenty of seating.

Dont know much about coffee, so cant comment on the quality of beverages available, but I love the place! I come here to work all the time, there are lots of seats, especially when its warm outside when you can sit on the deck. For people who drive, theres also plenty of parking. Only problem is that everything here is pricey. Probably the most expensive coffee shop in Bloomington (but see first line of review). Hence the 4 stars.

Fresh-roasted coffee made on the premises. Great, locally-owned coffee place. Nice break when walking or riding on the B-Line Trail. Tons better than Starbucks. Only downside is that students park themselves here for hours because of the free Wi-Fi, so seating is an issue. They might encourage European seating whereby you dont own the whole table, only the seat youre sitting in. It also fosters community.

First time visitor, we found this on google while driving north and stopped in. We didnt like the two strong flavored brews, too similar, so got a mocha and latte. But they were out of mocha flavoring so I tried cardamom which Id nevet seen before and fell in love! It was delicious! Also got a cookie for the road which was good. Ok atmosphere with several big tables and some comfy looking chairs.

Essential to an amazing cup of coffee is freshness of the beans. Hopscotch roasts their own, so the chances are good that youre getting one fresh cup of joe. Their baristas are also top notch, so the espresso drinks are on point. The ambience is pleasant. All this adds up to Hopscotch being the best café in Bloomington. But dont tell anyone, its already hard enough to find a seat.

Oh, Hopscotch. I love your amazing coffee and chai, I just wish you had more seating room for people! Seriously, though, their coffee is amazing - and in the summer, try the Thai iced coffee, its the best. Their baked goods are great too - I love their lemon bars. This is definitely my favorite coffee place in Bloomington! (Now if only theyd make it even larger...)

The patio here and the price point cant be beat in Bloomington. I personally am not a fan of the way they roast their coffee, but also know many who love it. They have full pots of various teas, and offer essentially any method of coffee (French press, chemex, drip, etc etc etc) you want. If its a nice day though expect it to be busy.

Interesting and unique coffee selections (the Thai-iced and Cobra Verdge are not to be missed). Great outdoor seating area, and generally friendly staff. Very quiet, good place to work or study for extended periods. Update: They ditched AT&T for internet in favor of Comcast and the reliablility and speed has improved greatly. :-)

The coffee and bakery was great! But to be honest the seating arrangement doesnt make me feel like a coffee shop. I thought cafe usually puts the comfy seats on the sides or in the corner, so people can sit and pass their time with friends or themselves. Here the seats are mostly wooden and the sofa are very close to the entrance.

These guys are great at being just pretentious enough for you to question your choice of going here, without being so conceded as to completely alienate. A fine line most independent coffee houses are required to walk these days. Everything was quite satisfying, not leaving one to long for more, either in taste or wallet.

They make wonderful cold brew as well as nitro cold brew. The employees are great and they appreciate conscientious regulars. They are usually less busy before 9 a.m. so it is an excellent place to stop for morning coffee if you dont want to sit in the massive lines at a Starbucks.

Excellent pour over. I had their single origin Guatemala. Really loved the environment of this place. Only swung by to grab some coffee to go, just passing through town. Would love to try it again and spend more time here. Which could also lead to a more thorough review.

The coffee is dreadful and always burned but I still go anyway because its such a gorgeous establishment in the best possible location. The outdoor seating overlooks the B-Line and the indoor seating is plentiful and comfortable. There is a nice amount of parking too.

A little Too Noisy For My taste, but still really nice. The only problem weve ever had is when we were buying dark Roast beans, for a while they were too wet and didnt grind like they should have. Still recommend! People are great. And they have a great product!

One of our Bloomington staples for morning coffee on the weekends. The food brought in from Rainbow Bakery and other local places is good for a quick breakfast but they dont have a kitchen themselves. I mostly get drip coffee but their mochas and lattes are amazing!

So, my experience wasnt the best. The atmosphere was pretentious and the latte tasted like burnt grilled cheese dipped in tomatoe soup...that sounds odd but thats how it tasted. I think they overheated my almond milk. Either way. Junk.

The staff are amazing and knowledgeable about their job and the variety of ways to make coffee. The atmosphere is casual and outdoor seating is available. Ive never had a bad experience and enjoy going to Hopscotch.

A very comfortable, cozy setting for reading, working online, or simply soaking up the light, airy atmosphere while enjoying a great cup of coffee or tea, and perhaps a locally-made egg tart or pastry!

Fantastic Coffee shop. Coffee is roasted on site and very good. Pastries are tasty, and there is an entire wall with tables and chairs for those that come in to get some computer work done.

Friendly staff and great atmosphere, as well as both classic and unconventional offerings. Try the rosemary-chocolate doughnuts if youre in the mood for something a little adventurous.

Watch them roast while you study or converse in a calming din with legitimate express drinks without too much pretense. Also, clean bathrooms, good amount of seating, and bike rack.
