I am a resident & frequent regularly. The owner is nice as are the back meat/butchers but the cashiers leave a bad experience. There have been spontaneous cashiers hired, who have a very pleasnat demeanour that just started this summer. The fact that this the main grocery store in the area w/fresh meat i feel the owner should make customer service especially their front end a priority asap. Only other stores are a chain & liquor store & both have great customer service from beginning to end. Ill go into east side to la ateña or la cienega anyday to get good customer service unless Im running short on time.

While the produce looks great and is reasonably priced, the service is not the greatest. Had a good encounter with the deli and meat counter males, but the women that run the check out counter have problems speaking english (or pretend to?) and have a foul mood. My final impression of Hegewisch Fruit Market was that despite the convenience, great produce and prices, the final experience at the checkout was enough to make me not want to return.
