(Realize, before you go further, that I am an ardent student of cake. perhaps more ardent than is healthy) At The Cake Shop, expect to have a broad assortment of cupcakes, cakes, cheesecakes, pound cakes pastries, cookies, pies, brownies, tortes, eclairs, puffs, etc... - A veritable "Patisserie Américaine" as it were. Permit me to rewind the clock two months: I met the GM and the Front-Manager at a Lucky Goat / Yelp function back in December 2015. At that time, I cluelessly thought I had no need for a Cake Shop. After all, Publix was just fine at churning out Cake. There is NOTHING wrong with Publixs bakery. Seriously. For over 30 years Ive been a Publix cake buyer with no complaints. Publix, after all, is a quality operation. But Publix isnt The Cake Shop. The Cake Shop is where you come when youre seeking something "extra" - whether its a personalized touch, or insightful advice, or simply the unexpected. I started my most recent quest quite late. My fathers 80th party is, er, tomorrow (I know) and I waited until this early afternoon to go out and get "an awesome and unique cake" - something befitting the occasion. I went to Publix but wasnt feeling the degree of awesomeness and uniquehood that I sought. Then I remembered the Lucky Goat event and so I bee-lined it to The Cake Shop, where I met up with Ale (pronounced Allie or Ally) who assured me that it was all going to work out. Really, I didnt even know what to ask for - so I told her the special fête would be for about 14-18 people, and that leftovers were welcome. (What?? - not for me! - For him. Maybe one or two slices for me - but for him, mostly) Ale squared me away with a signature cake that they are known for - one which I will be sure to photograph for you once I pick it up tomorrow morning at 11AM sharp! For a guy like me that seeks out all quality-based things local - Im happy to report that The Cake Shop fits the bill. I suspect you will too.

Culinary snobs I called the Cake Shop today to make a special request for a banana flavored birthday cake for a special friend whos only desire was to have a banana birthday cake. To my disappointment the lady who answered the phone immediately became annoyed with my question and with her nasty tone of voice told me to try a place like Publix bakery to make requests such as those. She was completely disgusted with me for even asking. It clearly states on their website that they can make all kinds of cakes and that they have master baking and pastry chefs on staff including the founder. Clearly they are mere amateurs perpetrating to be formally trained baking and pastry chefs. Even a baking chef straight out of chef school could easily accommodate such a request. Its obvious that they are not very customer service friendly and only interested in baking what is more convenient to them. I mean the lady wouldnt even ask the so called founder if she would even be willing to consider the request. How hard could it be? I am happy to take my business to Publix if thats what they want me to do. At least Ill get better customer service there. They should have put on their website "if it aint on the menu dont ask." At least then I would know what to expect. Now I know they are culinary snobs who think they are eliteists and dont have time for real people that have an imagination. What a disgrace.

My mother in law wanted to pay for our wedding cake and she was dealing with another bakery here in town, which for their sake I will leave nameless. She was told to have us come by and taste cakes and pick out the one we wanted..much to our disappointment when we got there the owner was rude and did not have time for us. I was so upset; it was a week before our wedding and my only day off work. I emailed Megan at the cake shop and she jumped right on it. She was so kind and understanding and made us a priority. The cake was GORGEOUS and was simply scrumptious! It was a great experience and incredible customer service I would like to recommend this bakery (and Megan) to all of Tallahassee and the surrounding area. She even emailed me before the wedding to say good luck and she heard the weather was going to be beautiful = ) Love this place and lover her!!!!

I called in to order a small cake and I told the girl that I wanted it decorated exactly like the picture on the web site. She agreed with me that it would be fine for a male. I paid for it in advance, and I went on Saturday to pick up my cake. It looked nothing like the cake that I told the girl I wanted. There are no decorators on Saturdays to make it better. The girl that helped me, left for about 10 minutes to call someone and when she returned she offered me no help. I had a birthday party that day, so I had to take the cake the way it was.. I told her I was very unhappy about it. I was never contacted concerning the error that the Bakery Shop had made. I was offered an apology for the mistake that the Bakery Shop made.

Terrible experience. They did not make our order the way we asked and when we complained about it and asked what our options were, they told us that they would not fix it (that is just the way they make that particular cake) and demanded that we pay for it. Because we were so frazzled and caught off guard, we felt pressured to pay for it even though we were not happy, but after leaving the store and driving home, we regretted that we caved in. We should have refused to pay for it and left, since they had zero customer service. What happened to the customer is always right and trying to at least make a small effort to make us happy?

They should change their name to The CUPCAKE shop!! they have no business doing cakes here, unless all u need is a cake with icing on it. I asked for a regular half sheet cake with white frosting and the top just a sky blue color. they couldnt do that. They couldnt trim the cake in blue. They couldnt put nothing on the side of the cake. Even after they asked the person who does the cakes..she couldnt do any of it. She obviously has no talent or skill to trim a cake.So what COULD they do? Lose my business! and thats what they did. Im taking my business to Heidis or Tasty Pastry.

I bought 14 cupcakes with a bill that came to over $40, but I figured it was worth it for a special occasion. Wrong! I bought 6 different flavors and only 2 flavors, Carrot Cake and Reeses Peanut butter were fresh. Watching my guests leave partially eaten cupcakes on their plates was so embarrassing. I was so busy serving, that I did not eat any so I quietly asked my husband what was wrong and he said they were stale and that I would have been better off with cupcakes from Publix. They may not be as pretty, but at least they would have been fresh and cost a lot less.
