No it isnt the biggest market, nor is it the best supermarket. So why the high score? Its mainly due to the important significance this type of supermarket has in Fresno. Yes you have your usual grocery and supermarkets here in Fresno--even the fancy ones like Whole Foods, Sprouts, and Trader Joes. But what has been lacking here in Fresno it seems is a major Asian Supermarket. If you have been to the Bay Area youll know what a real Asian Supermarket is like. Here in Fresno, the real main Asian Supermarket type of place was RN Market. From the selections and to the mere size of it, RN Market really makes you "feel at home" in comparison to Bay Area asian supermarkets. The bad part about RN Market is well it was really the only one of its kind. I know there are those small bodega type places in Fresno, but nothing like a full pledge asian Supermarket like it. Enter Island Pacific. For those who dont know, Island Pacific is a pretty big deal. They have many locations and bring with them a reputation that their store holds. Island Pacific although offering many popular Asian Ingredients, specializes in Filipino (Philippines) ingredients and other food items. Lets get down to the facts: No its not as big as RN Market, but it is cleaner, and more organized (for now since they just opened). What they do offer here that gives them a huge advantage over RN Market, is the fresh seafood area. RN Markets is almost non-existent and more pricey. Here they have a huge selection of seafood--fresh! AND, just as one would expect from the Bay Area asian supermarkets, they will prepare it and fry it for you on the spot! They also have a meat/butcher section although not as big as say a typical Asian supermarket in the bay area. The size of theirs here is like that of RN Market. The butchery and the seafood was really the biggest downfall of RN Market, and at least Island Pacific fills the seafood void. As for the rest of the grocery store, they have a sizable selection of fruits and veggies as you see in the photos I attached. If you cant find the asian/filipino ingredient you need between RN and here at Island Pacific, then I dont know what to tell you. The nice thing about Island Pacific here is the food court. They serve up yummy Filipino classics at affordable prices and some seating for you to enjoy your food. They do have the filipino breakfast specialties but come early. They ran out of garlic rice, and a few other items. Also the line gets bottleneck because there is only 1 register to pay. Maybe because they just opened, but if the traffic is continuously like this, it will be a problem. I also want to add that the prices are on par to what you are use to. Just because this is in the Central Valley, the prices dont seem to be higher than the ones in the Bay. Overall, in the scope of being an Asian Supermarket, this is great. Its nice to see Fresno have a real competitor to RN Market. This is also a big plus for the Filipino and just the Asian community here. Its not as big as what you might be use to if you are from the Bay Area, but it should satisfy most of the things you are use to if you are from the Bay. Until other Asian Supermarkets open up, or a seafood city, or RN revamps their butchery and seafood section, they both will be winners in my book.

The supermarket is great with a wide selection of products. It looks nice and clean inside. Veggies and fruits are fresh and never spoiled. The workers are very nice and helpful. The seafood and butchery side of the store are very good quality and lots of variety. The bakery looks wonderful. Now for the bad part. When you enter the store it looks like theres no way in as the cash registers and part of the restaurant blocks the way so youll have to go through the registers. The restaurant is mainly the worst thing. UNLESS YOUR PHILIPINO OR SPEAK THEIR LANGUAGE YOU HAVE NO PRIORITY REGARDLESS WHAT PLACE YOU ARE IN LINE. No one and nothing tells you how to order. The menu on the top does not explain anything at all. Its super unorganized because when its your turn you can take as long as you want picking and choosing, which i have yet to understand, from their long display of food all the way down the line. So you want to see what they all have youd have to go up and down the line so its just a cluster of people going back and forth in the line. When it comes time to pay theres only one cash register and there is no order in who cashes out. Many people will be put ahead of you even if your finished before anyone else. I wish the supermarket was seperate from the restaurant cause i would love to give them a 5 star.

I like the store. Its got a good selection of fresh seafood. Prices are just OK most things. I can get things here that I cant find elsewhere now. When they specials on meat, its a really good price. As for the Philhouse - they are quick to take your order and then you end up waiting a long time to pay for your food. The way its set up, makes you wait in a really long line to pay out and they only have one person handling the register. They really need 2 up there. I ordered the basics. Pancit, chicken adobo, bbq chicken skewers, and a side of extra rice (for my daughter). The chicken adobo was ok, the bbq chicken was excellent, but my Pancit was VERY bland. I came home with my food and added more pepper and garlic salt. The rice was of course fine and my daughter did like the bbq chicken and chicken adobo. However, i dont think i will come here to eat again. I will definately come here to shop.

We bought bilo bilo, fish kilawin, well I thought thats what I bought, and sisig. The bilo bilo was lacking some ingredients. It was so soupy. There was no bilo bilo, very little tapioca, barely had taro or gabi, very little coconut and I can barely taste the jackfruit or I thought it was. Instead if eating it, I was sipping it. The fish was full of green & red bell peppers, jalapeño, or something, I dont know and it didnt taste good. The sisig? Hardly had any meat and they charge too much for such small containers. They even charge you by pound instead if just the size if the containers, like the other Filipino restaurants. I came to this place because its convenient and I heard good things about it. DISAPPOINTED. Their other stuffs are ok, but the food I bought today? Im so disappointed. You miss our own Filipino food but then you get so disappointed.

I love this place. This store has the largest collection of Filipino goods and products that I have ever seen. Tender Juicy cheese dogs, pancit canton, prawn crackers, silver swan soy sauce, Mang Tomas, Magic Sarap, tons of biscuits, chips, and bihon etc. Very friendly staff. They have a great bakery and restaurant that serves Filipino food. Adobo, Bicol express, Sinigang, Mang inasal etc. This store is a great asset to the Fresno community. It takes me back to the Philippines with out the humidity.
