The cause outweighs one douche. Yes, like one of the other reviews I too was confronted with a similar person acting very rude. But I decided to go a second and third and fourth time because after the first time I went towards the back and found an older gentlemen fixing bicycles. He seemed to be orchestrating the whole group volunteering in the back. He asked if I needed help and I told him my troubles with my bicycle. He helped me that time and every single time since. Whether I needed a bracket for a vintage rack or a Positron shifter wire he always helped. Now for the second year in a row my gf and I donated at different times of the year to working bikes. This is a great place to get things at a lower price (used) and help a cause.

the people who work here are douchey i showed up an hour b4 close . some goon tried selling me a lame bike when all i wanted was parts for the bike i brought in. they were like, "oh theres no point in fixing your bike just buy a new one". he tried convincing me to donate my bike to them so that they could ship it to Africa to some people who "really needed it" . i ended up getting the parts i needed and some fool who works there was like "no . its not gonna work blah blah blah" i had high hopes for this place and its a really cool concept but i had a Wack experience here. the rim i bought was bent as hell and was a complete waste of 15 dollars

Im a volunteer there every Wednesday fixing up bikes, tearing down clunkers for their parts and loading bikes in shipping containers for donation to countries where a bike may be the key to employment and a better life. The economic model is pretty straight forward: Collect bikes, fix the good ones up for sale, tear down the poor condition ones, store the others, and use the money from sales to fund the shipping. It costs about $5,000 per container that can carry several hundred bicycles. And, yes, they are a full line bicycle repair shop with accessories. Bring yours in for a tune up, safety check, new tires/tubes, etc.

No males allowed on Thursdays! They ask for volunteers to help fix old bikes which they then sell. I know how to fix bikes so I showed up. The employees (all male) firmly turned me away, saying Thursdays are for females and trans people only. Never in my life have I been turned away from a volunteer position, much less one where I bring specialized skills. I suppose theyd rather keep the women, quasi-women and pseudomen to themselves. But hey, they sell used bike bottles for a dollar, so one extra star for that.

When it comes to great service at a very low price this place is second to none ! I brought my bike in because of my brakes going out on me and my chain in bad condition. These guys were fast and efficient took them less than an hour to get me out of there. They also were polite and answered all of my questions. Very informative staff, and all goes to a great cause , I love the fact they donate to less fortunate individuals around the world.

We bought 2 bikes and some gear hear. they have great bikes, great prices on both bikes and new/used gear, and they are very friendly. But heres the best part, go to their website and see why theyre a non-profit. They take bikes and ship them to partner organizations in developing countries who train the community how to maintain bikes and also distribute them to the public who rely on them for transportation. GREAT JOB guys!

Why in the world would I take the western bus from the north side all the way down here to get my bike fixed? Because its worth it. Love the idea of this place. donating bikes to other countries that need them. Volunteers working. Just a really cool place with really cool people. Id volunteer myself if I wasnt so far away, but I bought my last two bikes here and will keep coming back. They really take care of you.

Everybody here is really nice and helpful. Even more importantly, they had a great selection of bikes. Im tall (66"), which generally makes it really hard to find bikes my size. Working Bikes had 2-3 bikes which were exactly my size, and another 2-3 which were just a little too small. They are also going to start offering bike repairs soon, which Ill definitely take advantage of. Well worth the trip down to Pilsen.

This is a very good bicycle shop. Bought a great racing bike there for cheap, in wonderful condition. I came back in because the saddle was not quite right and they fixed it for free. They also have all other equipment you might want to add, like helmets and other safety gear. The people are very competent and its clear they love bicycles. Hope this shop continues to thrive!

I bought my bike here two years ago, and I have used it almost every day since. I couldnt have found a better bike for less money anywhere else in the city, and I love knowing my purchase will fund their wonderful mission to bring bikes to deserving people all over the city.

Working Bikes offers a great resource to the chicago community. Im not the biggest bike nerd, but its really great that people can get a very functional bike for cheap. after all whenever you ride a bike your not polluting the air we breath!

Bought a green old school refurbished schwinn cruiser (with an air horn!) for a mere $140 and its been turning heads on the daily. Theyre a busy shop, so bring your patience, but the bikes are just as awesome as their business model.

I had a problem with my bike and I thought I was going to cost an arm and leg however it was just a matter of screwing some screws to fix it. The guys fixed it at no charge. Great service and definitely recommending this place!!!!

An amazing place to get anything you need to build and fix your bike from ring locks, bearing, screws to forks, frames, and rims and also they sell ready to ride bikes too. Go visit them someday and receive a warm welcome.
