My first time into Publix was all because of a free tortilla chip coupon. Publix on Cherry Road of Rock Hill, South Carolina hasnt been here for that long. It was previously a Bi-Lo that I once frequented--maybe the transition was for the better. Publix is a new, beautiful store. But my opinion changed when I stood in the enormous chip aisle and stood around, dumbly searching for this mysterious bag of tortilla chips. I questioned my ocular capabilities until a woman approached me from down the aisle. Not dressed in uniform, she directly confronted me with, "Are you looking for this?" The situation was quite impressive. "Yes," I said. I had to ask for these. They are a couple of aisles over, aisle eight, I think." I said, "You just saved me thirty minutes." And "Thank you," in the most sincere form possible. I move down, passing many chips. Down in a secluded corner at the end, was a furry patch of chips and other items--just ripe for picking. I grabbed one, and checked out. The lines were short. The staff were friendly and helpful. I believe that I was waiting in line when a manager came from nowhere and asked me quickly "How are you doing" and "Is that all you have/is it yours?" To which I quickly responded, "Yes." She grabs the chips and tries to rush me by picking up the chips and moving them six inches closer to the cashier. While in line. I dont need someone to help me with a bag of chips. Thats a little too "helpful." Also, I decided to go back because the new Wal-Mart Marketplace is degenerating their business. I cant stand the lack of customer service skills. It seems that every time that I go to marketplace, theres an issue--self-check out malfunctions, standing in line for twenty minutes. Ive watched people walk out. Shopping should be fun, not miserable. On another visit, Publix was dead except for a couple of people haunting the store. I was in the fruit aisle. Looking for fruit. I notice a couple of staff standing at the endcap of one of the fruitstands and they were both just staring at me. Half staring, and half talking to each other and occasionally laughing. I dont know about you , but I get uncomfortable being stared at by people I dont really know. After staring at me for awhile, I have to get close to get to the apples. One guy says, "Hows it going," to which I dont know how to respond after feeling revolted from being stared at. The chip lady suddenly walks towards them from around the corner and they group up and laugh with one another. Ok. Whatever. And they walk off. I think Im not used to this positive atmosphere. What do you do when you go from a place with zero customer service to one with exceptional customer service? Convenience is a key which Publix fulfills. Now, for the rating system. One star for the location--it is nice to have an affordable grocery store within five miles of your home. One star for the friendly staff--the staff as of Oct 2016 have been attentive and friendly. One star for the hours--If youre an early bird like I am, youll appreciate the head start. Or if you need to get something really late, theyre open until 11 most days. One star for the stock--They have a wonderful selection of fresh looking food. A very well kept stock. Fresh fruits. A wide selection to choose from. I havent investigated much beyond fruit or chips. When I go, its always for a couple of things. But perhaps this is an adventure that I have yet to embark upon.

Ive finally given up and its time to write a negative review. I really wanted this store to come through for me, but it hasnt. In general, Id like to say that they practice the "customer service" very well. Like asking to take your groceries to the car, helping find things - they are very friendly. The problem is, this store is lacking substance. The first problem we experienced was an over charge for a frozen item that we get - dairy free, soy free, and gluten free. It was labeled $3.69 on the shelf but we were charged $4.29. I realized this after I got home. They kindly gave us a refund on the difference. Next, they made a new label and increased the price to $4.29 when the other Publix in Ft. Mill still charged $3.69. Then, the product and the label disappeared completely from the shelf. We told the manager and they had us fill out a form to order a case. We gave our phone number and two months went by without a phone call. Eventually, the product suddenly appeared again on the shelf at the original price of $3.69. Next problem is with a brand of Coconut Milk. It hasnt been restocked for 3 weeks. Countless times Ive talked to them, they send someone in the back only to come back out and say it will be on the next truck - I promise. Ok, next day - still not there. They even took my phone number last time (two weeks ago). Ive seen other isles where the stocking was bad and I had to look for my product hidden behind another product or I corrected things myself. Id just like to say the stocking part and the follow through in this store is really bad and VERY disappointing.

Been hearing good things about this grocery store. Turns out its for a reason. The store is immaculate and very well stocked. I saw one employee double back on her walk by the front to reorganize some papers at a kiosk that were a little jumbled up. You dont see that at Walmart! My wife and I were kindly greeted with warm smiles and friendly attitudes by every employee we came across. Some even went out of their way to come say "hello, how are you today" or asking if they could be of assistance. The bathrooms were very clean to boot. The guy who bagged our groceries insisted on pushing our buggy out to the car and helped load it up. A very pleasant experience, and customer service like this deserves to be recognized. Well done to the managers and employees of this location who no doubt work hard to provide this kind of service

Yesterday I experienced a devil of a migraine so I stopped here to get a coffee. I walked up to the cafe and said I need the strongest thing you have. She suggested an expresso and as she was making it she asked if I was ok. Given I had just got done crying from the pain and I knew I looked a mess so I told her I just have a terrible migraine. She sympathized with me and continue to make my coffee. She came to hand it to me and I went to pull out my card and she said dont worry about it. Its on me. Never have I experience such kindness because as I walked around sipping that coffe my migraine slowly regressed. So thank you so much maam. I appreciate your sympathy and your act of kindness. It couldnt have been big enough for me that day.

Publix is my favorite conventional grocery store but this particular location doesnt have the same welcoming feel. It also feels kind of empty and the customer service isnt nearly as good as other locations. I went last night and picked up some BOGO bagged salads, noticed one was open, and handed it to the self-service operator. She did not say a word, just snatched it from my hand and laid it down directly in front of me. I have worked in customer service too long to hear an acceptable excuse for that, as meaningless as the whole interaction was, its not a cute look for the store. Cherry Road location, please address your staffing issue. They just arent at the same standard as other locations.
