The Beauty Coliseum has been my go-to spot for a number of years. My Saturdays are pretty busy so I try to get essential things done in one central location. Pros: 1.) The shop is conveniently located downtown, right by Whole Foods. 2.) Simone, the owner, is pretty flexible when it comes to scheduling. (She opened her shop at 6am to do my hair before my best friends wedding. Who does that?! Kudos to the customer service here!) 3.) They sell products for all hair types. Ive bought products for my hair when it was permed/texlaxed, in transition [#THESTRUGGLE], completely natural and now, starting my locs. 4.) When I was a student, money was tight. I moved out of town but I was still able to buy my products off their website and have them shipped to my dorm. When I was home on breaks, their back to school specials on services were more than reasonable. 5.) Folks always ask me where do I get my hair done. Its really a reflection of my stylist. Overall, the focus at the Beauty Coliseum has been healthy hair. [#WINNING] Cons: 1.) You need to make an appointment. Simone has done my hair w/o one but only when she had time between clients. She really respects the one-on-one sessions with her clients so, I make it my business to make an appointment now. I recommended calling the shop before you swing by. 2.) Parking - If you come early, its not a problem. Its a hit or miss later in the day but hey, its South Street! Final Thoughts: Whether youre just starting out and you dont know what to do with your hair or youve reached guru status, the Beauty Coliseum is the place to go. You can talk about hair, buy products for your specific needs (i.e., breakage, damage, maintenance, etc.) and/or get dolled up in the chair. To the men reading this, dont be intimidated, Ive seen a number of male clientele here too and their locs are ALWAYS on point. BTW, the sleeping caps are a must-have! Simone has kept my hair healthy during all of the phases of my hair journey. And, let me tell you, its been a long one...

I started my sister locks with Simone three years ago (May 2014) and have gone to her almost exclusively. Simone is extremely professional, flexible, agreeable and warm. I am definitely in love with my sister-locks, but my hair is a small part of my thought-life. Simone shares that belief. Maintaining my hair is not laden with rituals, products, techniques and practices-- she does not push a particular sister-locks ideology. And even though she sells a wide range of products online and in her store, she does not pressure you to buy anything! Simone truly does provide fast, neat, pressure-free service that I have been benefiting from since my install! Having been to 2 other loctitians (once visit each) in the US and a few others while living abroad, I can honestly say that Simone is the fastest (not to be under-rated) and most professional stylist I have worked with.

I have had Sisterlocs for over 10 years. After having surgery and being restricted from driving for several weeks, my locs grew like weeds. I called the person who installed my locs, and she was unavailable. I found Simone on the Sisterlocs website. When I first met Simone I knew she would be the one I would continue to go to to care for my hair. She was friendly from the very start. She inspected my locs and gently dyed, washed, tightened and cut them all in one visit! She took her time, helped me decide on a color and a new length. She was awesome. From the initial consultation, I knew I could trust her expertise and professionalism. Hence, why she has remained my only Consultant. At Beauty Coliseum, I have received advice on how to maintain my sisterlocks as they mature; and also the ability to purchase products developed by Simone such as the lock rollers and various hair caps. The lock rollers create gorgeous curls that lasts for days. I love the hair caps that are both stylish and practical for when youre in the go and still need to look chic. This is my 3rd year sl anniversary and I have no regrets. I am so thankful that I had great experienced people doing my locks. Organic products are featured and often one of a kind that Ive never seen anywhere. In addition to carrying quality products, the owner gives expert advice and she is an unlimited source of knowledge relating to all skincare and hair care needs. What I really enjoy about going to Beauty Coliseum is a personalize service that you dont often find in many salons. My advice is to go nowhere else and treat yourself like a Nubian princess.

I have been a client since my sisterlocks install back in 2008. Simone has maintained, colored, and cut my hair through the years and I have always left happy. My retightening sessions go quickly, (even when I had nearly waist length locks). Ive also brought hair care products, loc rollers, & sleeping caps which have helped to keep my hair shiny and healthy. My mom comes here also and gets her hair done by Katy. Shes never had any complaints and her hair always looks fabulous. I always receive compliments about my hair and I have referred countless people here.

In the beginning I would alternate between Simone my original loctician but gradually gravitated to Simone because of her warm personality and professionalism. Shes never over booked. You can always expect to be her only customer therefore you get her undivided attention. Ive been going to Beauty Coliseum for the last five years. Never have an unreasonable wait time. My sisterlocks are well taken care of by Simone. They have grew so long! And I love, love, love, Simones Fairy Black Godmother caps. Keeps my hair in great condition while Im sleeping. Definitely recommend anyone who is considering a Sisterlock installation or someone looking for a Sisterlock consultant.
