I went in for a coffee on my way to work. There was one lady sitting with her laptop waiting for a tea and two gentlemen ordered coffees and sat to wait for them. Meanwhile there was a group of three people in front of me waiting to order as was I. The young man behind the counter never acknowledged any of us waiting. He was busy behind the counter cleaning and doing busy work. I never saw him start the tea or the other coffees that had been ordered. After what seemed like 20 minutes but was probably 5, the group of three walked out frustrated without ever being acknowledged. I decided to wait a few more minutes and see if I could get that cup of coffee I really wanted. Not once did the rude young man ever look at me or acknowledge that he would be with me. I left after telling him how rude he was. Whoever the owners are, I hear that is your son who treated us this way and lost you 4 customers in less than 10 minutes. I wonder how long you will stay in business when Fred and Larrys welcomes people as they walk in. I will never come to your coffee shop again and I tell everyone who asks to be sure to honor Fred and Larrys.

Great atmosphere and coffee! I discovered mountain grounds when I moved back to the area for raleigh! The drinks are made with care, not rushed out like at some places, and if you go in more than once youre sure to be recognized by the people there. It was the perfect place to work on MFA applications, as it is peaceful and spacious, letting me read and write for hours undisturbed. With a huge selection of teas, coffee drinks, and delicious oatmeal and pastries it is the perfect place to go relax. Anyone who worries about things like organic probably thinks that organic always constitutes a good thing, or probably thinks that we have a deforestation problem in the united states. Fair trade is a much better label to have.

Went this morning with high hopes for good coffee considering its a coffee a tea establishment. When I came up to order I ordered the simplest thing on the menu a drip coffee. I figured Id try the Sulawesi coffee and the drip was out. No big deal. I then poured out the small amount it had left and tried to pour one of the other two options and it was out too. So I waited til he brewed a batch to get a plain black coffee. The coffee was just ok nothing to write home about and the shop seemed unprepared to accommodate customers. Wont be going back. If the worker had been more prepared maybe the experience would have been better. Keeping drip coffee stocked and ready isnt an unreasonable expectation for a coffee shop.

I visited Mountain Grounds for the first time yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at how satisfying the experience was! Right when I walked in the door, the smell of fresh coffee greeted me along with the friendly owner. The coffee itself (White Chocolate Latte) was excellent, and had great foam on top. The atmosphere was very inviting, and there was no problem with customizing the drinks. Overall it was a wonderful find in Banner Elk and I will definitely be back!

I am a creature of habit especially when it comes to food and drinks. When I have something that I consider to be a perfect meal or drink rest assured I will go back and have it again and again. Every time I treat myself at mountain grounds I am rewarded with a perfect cup of vanilla chai tea. Its like my first cup all over again. I love the atmosphere and the friendly chatter with the baristas. Go and you wont be disappointed.:)

Finally, a great cup of Joe. The only decent coffee place around... an oasis for coffee lovers. Modernized interior/exterior, owner was very friendly. My cappuccino was great, my wifes comment on their Chai tea latte: it was the best shes ever had! A creamy, rich delicious aromatic flavorful experience!

Mountain Grounds has the best coffee...the flavored coffee is amazing! I find the owner and all of her employees to be very friendly and inviting to visitors to our area and locals alike. Highly recommend! And another note, her espresso is organic and sometimes a great cup of coffee is worth the wait :)

My husband and I went into Mountain Grounds to do some business planning and had a great experience with Whitney as our barista. Thank you, Whitney!! The coffee was delicious, & were grateful to have a friendly and welcoming coffee shop nearby!! ☕️ We will be back!

This place is warm and cozy. It is full of books and has stable wifi. The staff treat you like family. I always stop here when Im in town. Oh, and the coffee... There is such a wide array of selections that you could easily get bogged down with the choices.

Indifferent staff, didnt pre warm my cup before pouring my espresso even after I asked. I asked for additional items without being acknowledged. Coffee was good, but I would think there are better baristas in the area.
