Monday, September 20th 2010, I had the most demeaning and insulting experience at the Manhasset Whole Foods. I have been shopping here since the store opened and spend an average of $1000 a month to feed my family. I have often been asked by your employees if I’m a chef when they see my shopping cart piled sky high in its organic goodness. But no, I am not a chef; I am a mother who personally enjoys making home-cooked meals for her family every single night. On my weekly shopping trip, I had gathered my items and went to the register to pay. There was a woman in front of me with just a couple of things, so I put the divider up and started to load the conveyor belt with my groceries. As I was almost done, she turns to me in a holier-than-thou tone and says “Stop loading your items!! I have 2 shopping carts coming filled with my stuff! Go to another register!” as she calls for her assistants to hurry up and get in on the line… I politely asked her if she could pay for the 5 items she already had on the register, so that I can pay for mine and her assistants can take their turn since I had already loaded the belt. It’s simple, one can’t go to a register with 5 items and stand as a placeholder while they have 2 carts coming behind them. It’s different if let’s say… you forgot the butter and ran to get it before you paid… OR ok, great you have 2 more carts coming… at least tell me BEFORE I load all of my groceries!! But no… this woman apparently thought she should be the only one on the line and started to take MY items OFF the belt and throw them back in MY cart as she demanded to speak to the manager. At this point, I thought let me just take my things and go to another register to avoid this crazy woman but she kept going on and on and berating me... The managers come, and instead of handling the situation with grace and ease by perhaps suggesting the 2 assistants with carts be taken at the next register, since they FINALLY got there and were ready to pay. Instead, the manager asks ME to move ALL of my items and take them to another register… I rightfully refused. Why should I have been the one to move my things?? Because I didn’t have 2 assistants shopping for me?? And don’t like to cause a scene?? So I said, if you want the items to be moved… move them yourselves and walked out and vowed to never shop here again. Everyone should be treated fairly. Even those without assistants.

Where the elite meet to eat pretentious treats. Okay, Ill admit it; I have just as much a problem with their clientele as I do with their pricey and often not-terribly-special goods, but I suppose that has to do with their location from which, granted, I live a mere three miles up the road and really shouldnt talk. But I dont block the aisles while I drone on to a friend about how I have to miss my tennis lesson because the nanny is sick and I have to take care of my own kids, or meander in a daze wearing not much more than a belly shirt and yoga pants, then bend over to reveal my 50-year-old crack sporting a hot pink thong. But I digress. The issue is that a good deal of their offerings can be found for less in other stores, and that which cannot be so easily located is often excessively priced (but to be fair, I suppose that makes some sort of sense). Their selection of cheeses has declined somewhat in recent years, and a much greater selection and far better prices can be found at North Shore Farms a couple of miles north in Port Washington. Their meat and poultry are good, and I realize organic costs more, but theyre more expensive than I think they need to be, especially considering the buying power of a chain like Whole Foods. Nice prepared foods, but again, a bit pricey. The bakery isnt what it was when this location first opened. Produce is nice, and prices here, I feel, are often quite fair. The quality is definitely there in this department. Good fish department as well, but again, an even better selection of fresh fish (both farmed and wild) can be found at North Shore Farms and in many cases, also for less. I do love the cosmetics/vitamins aisle, but often feel uncomfortable that there is always an employee hovering close by. Perhaps there is a certain amount of theft in that area, which could account for this. Checkout moves slowly, even in the lanes reserved for X number of items or less. The parking lot is crowded (but does share space with a Benihana and a Bed Bath & Beyond, which would account for that). While I think having a Whole Foods in the area is a good thing, too bad it couldnt be better located, and a whole lot larger. A cafe would be nice, too. It just doesnt compare to some of the other Whole Foods I have been to -- not by a long shot -- and clientele aside, I think it could be a much better experience if there were more room in which to get around.

If this store wasnt one of the more convenient stores for me, I would not shop here. I routinely have issues at this store. Usually too crowded, despite a decent selection of produce and other products. The check out isles are too narrow to fit two carts side by side. A while ago I had a new employee try to charge me for and keep for themselves a gift card. Today I watched as an employee in the deli cut themselves, not bandage only get a new glove and proceed to make my sandwich. I could see blood in the glove by the time my sandwich was finnished. Edit: today I opened up a $25 bundle of salmon that had worms in it. Other than to get a refund I plan to never go to this store again.

The parking lot was too small and crammed with impatient shoppers. The store was crammed with products and all the shoppers were extreamly rude , selfish and pushy. I was disgusted by thier behavior coming from an upper class neighborhood.. I bought a salad and chicken soup . I was sick all night with indigestion, gas and diareah. I paid23$ for food that made me sick i could have been fed and treated better going to wild by nature.I recently had a mastectomy and have tnbc. I was hungry comming from north shore animal league and will never go to this store again nore recommend it to anybody who goes to north shore animal league.

Go here to shop for the items that anyone would go to a Whole Foods for. This place is for you if go to Whole Foods on a regular basis and know what you want to get. Unlike some of the other newer-Whole Foods I have been to that have spacious aisles and a great space that lets one wonder around finding new products, this Whole Foods does not allow anyone to do so. Spaces are crammed and store is set up an any regular grocery store.

Tends to be crowded. There are some interesting selections in certain departments. Sea food is good, cheeses are interesting, beer selection interesting an different. But they often are missing basic things that you expect to find, so as an everyday store, it does not work. And the prices tend to be high
