I probably wont return, I am feeling a bit ripped off. The customer service is terrible! I stopped to check this place out an hour from my home, two carts and hundreds of dollars later I checked out and signed up for their loyalty program. I got home and realized I never got a card for the rewards and felt the price seemed kinda high so I looked over my receipt. I found they charged me 89.99 for an Arborvitae that was priced 49.99. I returned a few days later for another load as Im just starting around my new home and asked for a card for the loyalty program and the same girl that signed me up said you just use your phone number. Ok, so I went to double check the pricing and took a picture of the sign and went back and the same girl and she told me I got a #7 container which must have been behind the sign for the #5 for 49.99, but thanks for checking she said to me.... this is where everything went south, its your mistake... there wasnt even a sign out there for 89.99 fix it! I walked away fuming but needed more plants at the same time, I reluctantly bought another $160 worth of plants and at the register got my receipt only to find someone had taken the rewards card I signed up for and used the five dollar credit for me from my first transaction. Its safe to say Ill never be back and thats the only $600 they will be getting from me, the prices are more a little higher at Bachmans but I would have spent less in the end. Take your business elsewhere!

Before this last purchase I would have given Gertens five stars. Now I am searching for a better alternative for my landscaping needs. Although their variety is wonderful, the customer service is poor. The prices are higher than most nurseries and because of that I may have a higher expectation of service. I ordered two trees online. After a week I received a call stating one tree had been tagged (as mine) but they were waiting for the second tree to come in before delivery. After another week I called them and asked if the first tree could be delivered. At that time they suggested I cancel the tree that had not come in and just take delivery of the one they had tagged. Five days later they delivered the tree, unfortunately it was the incorrect variety. The next day I reported the error and they offered to swap trees....in five more days. The quality of the replacement tree was disappointing, since the incorrect tree was shaped beautifully. (Unfortunately, the ultimate size of the original tree would have been too large for the space.) Why am I writing this negative review? I dont think I would have had I received an apology, or an expedited exchange, or maybe even a discount. I like to shop where I feel valued, something I certainly didnt feel after this experience.

It was Mothers Day and the place was packed, all the checkout lines extended. I stood at the return counter behind two lines waiting for an opening about 10 minutes and behind others checking out there. As the temp and dew points rose so did the rudeness and entitlements of people. I was standing between the two terminals when a woman asked which line I was in and demanded I pick one...before I could move she jumped in as one opened up. I was forced to wait and when the other line opened up, the clerk that just stepped in told me returns only and when I said others including the one next to me were checking out he shrugged his shoulders and said check out only. The only people around were checking out. All of the checkouts were full and there were no obvious returns. As a matter of fact the woman that jumped in ahead of me slipped her daughter in to check out and wirh that their friends in another line gave her their plants to check out when she finished hers. I was a second away from leaving my cart valued at well over $200 but had spent a couple of hours picking out my items and travelled across the store where I was able to get some help to checkout. Doubt if I will be going back there. Apparently they dont need my business.

I have been shopping at Gertens for many years now and have always made the longer trip from Lakeville to get their high quality plants and to enjoy their beautiful grounds. But something happened last Sunday that made me think I will never go anywhere else but here. We were looking for a certain size of hanging plants and not finding many out we were met by a Gertens worker who asked if we needed help. We asked him about the lack of inventory for the large hanging baskets and he took his time to explain and gave us a very informative answer. He didnt stop there. He told us that he would take us back to the garden holding area to see if we could find more of what we were looking for. He got a golf cart and proceeded to take us around to the back. On our way, we found out that our "worker" was the owner of Gertens. We were escorted around to find our baskets and he personally picked them out for us, got them down and carted them to the front and loaded them into our truck!! He even gave us a discount for buying 10. To think that there are owners out that still care about their customers in this way leaves such a good old fashioned feeling in me. This place is the real deal for sure. You will NOT be disappointed!!

Our experience with Gertens has been truly awful. We bought a tree from them this spring and it wasnt delivered until July. Than they did not deliver the tree I selected, but one with broken branches and blackened curled leaves. When I called they said that the tree Id selected had been broken in a storm, but they never called to tell me that but said they had selected the best one in stock to replace the one I selected. I told them the tree they sent was diseased and I refused i saying I wouldcome out and select a different one. I went out there a chose another tree. When that tree finally arrived by truck, it was all scraped up and had broken branches. The men who planted it said the scrapes would heal. All but one of them did. But the one that didnt has opened up to a large hole and I doubt the tree will survive the winter. I will NEVER shop at Gertens again and recommend that people buy trees from a more reputable garden center.

I like that this location is only a couple of minutes from my house. However, their selection is just so-so. Recently, I wanted a very common indoor plant, but they didnt have any - not one. Even though I went at 6:30 pm, it was like a scorching oven in the main building. I was dripping with sweat in my work clothes, feeling light-headed and decided to leave without making a purchase. There wasnt any building that was cooler. How on earth do the employees not get sick from the immense heat? I noticed one employee guzzling their water bottle down. I just feel so sorry for them. I definitely wont be back during the hot summer months; if at all. So, I broke down and decided to make a longer trip to a competing place. Not only did they have several of the plants that I wanted, there was also much cooler air in the main building. I would really like to give Gertens 5 stars, but I just cant. Carry the common plants and get some cooler air going!
