I have been really disappointed by the lack of fresh and local seafood markets in the area besides what Whole Foods offers, but decided to do another search online before heading home from work. New Deal came up - I read one of the reviews and decided to try it. I was immediately impressed with the cleanliness and lack of smell in the market. There were multiple people buying sushi-grade fish there. The owner was extremely friendly and proud and helped me pick out a great halibut steak - that was by far the best halibut I have cooked. Im so glad I tried it - You must try it too!

Family-run (read: accommodating & friendly), with a sizable selection of fresh/quality seafood from which to choose -- particularly live oysters! Regularly available: sushi grade salmon & maguro tuna, swordfish, snapper, cod, jumbo shrimp, mussels, branzino (a bass), sole, skate, smelts, cherrystones, crab, shrimp, periwinkle, lobster, squid, tobiko, and sea scallops; assorted, complementary ingredients are on the shelves (seaweed wrappers, rice, Kalamata olives, cheeses, and other miscellanea). One would be challenged to fully describe the delight of this place.

Oh how I miss this place. I moved away and have had trouble finding the quality of fish and great service. I would always go here to get fish for sushi. I told some friends about this place and they have had great experiences as well. The hours are great for picking up stuff after work (ask for ice to keep the fish cold). I moved again and I found an good place in North Providence which reminded me of New Deal. But realistically, New Deal is one of a kind!

Definitely picky about my fish and when Twin in Belmont closed down I had nowhere to go on the way home from work. I just stopped on my way home today and picked up two yellowfin steaks. Seared them with toasted and regular sesame seeds (also bought at New Deal) and the results were amazing. Probably the best piece of tuna Ive ever cooked at home. The swordfish looked ridiculously fresh as well, as did the scallops. I will definitely be back.

I needed a whole fresh fish to make sashimi for my bf and they told me which one was good. I bought a fish that we dont have in Japan, but their recommendation, Orata, was perfect for Sashimi. We were super happy with the result. I love this place because their people are friendly and knowledgeable. And yes you can get raw oysters here. Highly recommend for sushi sashimi grade fish. Will visit again.

Great stuff, great service, great prices. My girlfriend dropped her wallet outside the store and without the assistance of the store staff and owner she would not have got it back. This is an old-fashioned business that just gets it. I cant imagine giving our business to anyone else. The fact that they have the best seafood in town is only part of their story.

Great fresh fish daily. Very friendly staff. I love not having to wade around through a huge store to find fresh fish only to learn that everything they have came in 3 days before. New Deal has fresh selections daily and a super friendly staff to get you exactly what you need whether youre grilling, frying, poaching, or looking for sashimi grade fish.

New Deal is the hands down best fish and seafood store I have ever encountered. The quality of their fish is always excellent. Ive also had great experience with their scallops and oysters. But most of all, it is the fact that this is a family owned business, where recipe suggestions and selection advice are always available, that keeps me coming back.

We read about this place online and had to go try it. The mussels we got there werent expensive but they were all live and opened beautifully. The layout at the store is great and they have something to pair with whatever youre serving for a great meal. Id highly recommend them. Freshest fish around to cook at home!

They are my go-to for fresh fish and seafood. Aside for a good variety and skilled preparation, they also holds hard to find Italian and Asian products (such as typo 00 flour, passata... And then real wasabi paste, etc). Their sushi grade tuna is fantastic. Prices are moderate, but you can get a bargain sometimes.

Come here for sushi-grade seafood. Very nice selection of seafood. We came here to buy mussels and after stopping at Berkeley Bowl and Whole Foods this place had what we were looking for. The mussels were large, reasonably priced and delicious. They all opened when we cooked them.

Very fresh seafood and the guys are always willing to talk to you about methods of preparation, type of fish, etc. Very highly recommended, especially for sashimi/sushi dinners! They also sell complements to seafood such as soy sauce, pasta, sushi rice, tomatoes, lemons, etc.

I got mackerel at New Deal that wasnt fresh, and when I mentioned it the next time I was there, a few weeks later, I was told "well dont come here anymore" so I dont.
