Short story. I was a loyal 2nd and Charles customer, loved shopping here and loved their used product selection. Traded in a few times and got store credit and it was a pleasant experience. I brought in a crate of comic books, waited a couple hours for them to be valued, and was given an offer of 30$. I was floored and actually quite insulted, though I didnt show it because I understand that the store doesnt decide value on the books, which is fair. However what bothered me is that I had each series organized in a paper file folder by superhero, when they were given back to me every issue was mixed together and shoved into the container to make it fit. I vowed never to trade anything in with them again. About a year goes by,I have some more books to get rid of and I think to myself "Ill just take them to 2nd and Charles just to get rid of them, even if they only give me a little money at least it will free up space". I call in to make sure what I have is tradeable, then drive 45 minutes to their location. After bringing everything I had in,I was told they werent accepting trades for what I have. I mentioned that I spoke to someone on the phone who specifically said they were, and the answer I got was "well someone shouldve told you". Never trading or spending another dime in this store again.

This store used to be Borders. When 2nd & Charles took over the store space, I had no idea what to make of it until I went in to look around. They have a lot of books, comics, music, movies, and fannish / Japanese / cutesy toys. Although 2nd & Charles sells used books, Im not sure that all the items they have are used. I noticed that some books are priced like new and other books are priced at midway between new and thrift store. Even so, theres a lot to see and probably something for everyone. Of particular note are the free book baskets at the store entrance. Its the luck of the draw whether youll find any good books there but I do check every time I visit 2nd & Charles. Ive been using the free book baskets as a kind of lending library. I pick out any interesting books from there and return the books once Im done with those.

Pros: Occasionally a good find if youre working with trade credit. Cons: Low trade in values, prices are generally higher than what you can find online, games are not cleaned or tested. Thoughts: This 2nd and Charles location is a thoroughly ok store. Out of the dozens of video games Ive looked at over the past dozen visits, Ive found exactly two that were actually a good deal. For video games (particularly retro stuff), youre probably better off buying via eBay. That being said, Ive made several great purchases here because I tend to accumulate dozens of cheap games that arent worth my time reselling. Ill take one somewhat overpriced $60-100 SNES game that I really want over 40 $2-6 commons/doubles/sports titles any day of the week.

My experience there was very suppar. For starters I walked in and i saw no entusiam from the customer service associates. The big problem was that they had me there from 12-4 just to trade in 2 systems. At the end one of the few good Salesman told me they were experiencing technical problems. I understand that but they didnt let anyone know and had the store waiting for hours. If I was just notified about it I wouldve been okay with that. Once I recieved my total for my trade-ins there was confusion with the money I was recieving which didnt help te fact at all. She was saying one thing then gave me the next. Overall it wasnt somewhere Id go back again. bad customer service and a long with no explination until the end.

I just happen onto the store and it looked like a neat idea of a book store with video games. I was shocked with what I found. they have lots of very nice new and gently used video games, books, comics, toys, board games, fashion tee-shirts and so much more. Stuff that would have cost $20-30 was only $8-$12 and new with tags. Books were 1/2 off or more. The collectors stuff was unreal. If i had my teenager with me I would have left with empty pockets. Found lots of real hard items to find, like original working Nintendo controllers for $4. Great place for gift ideas for teens, hard to shop for geeks, and nerds. I could spend hours here.

I used to work here when it was a Borders. I still get sentimental when I pass here. Met my wife here. Now, the new store is equally fun. Lots of great books, toys and overall geek-tastic items. I could lose a lot of money here if I was not careful. Their presentation needs work though. If it is not on an endtable or display, it can be hard to find things unless you know precisely what you are looking for. Their fiction section was a bit light as well. Overall, a great place for gifts or personally finds.

BUYER BEWARE! They will not give you your money back no way no how! I purchased a brand new product from the store only to find that said item did not work, returned it to the store only to find that its "against store policy" to give any kind of refund other than store credit, because its a "used product" store. Well, geniuses, its a new product and I dont want store credit. Lesson learned, wont shop here again! (Also, wingnut26261. How about reviewing the store and not other reviewers spelling)

I could spend all day here looking through their huge selection of just about everything entertainment related. Books, movies, games, comics, memorabilia, music, you name it. The prices are pretty good too. You could easily walk in there with $20 and come out with some cool stuff. The store is nice and spacious, and well laid out. The staff is super friendly and have no problem helping you find something. Also, if you are inclined, you can trade in your old stuff for cash and/or store credit.

When 2nd and Charles first opened in Newark, I loved it. As a book collector, they had tons of neat old hardback editions that I gobbled up. The longer theyve been opened, the more the store has shifted to "new" books with their full cover price. Even their prices on "old" books and games have significantly risen past the point of value. Its still quite possible to find the occasional deal, but Ive walked out of there empty handed more times than not within the past couple of years.

Usually good prices on used items that you wont find elsewhere locally. Look here before going to Christiana Mall "chain book" store if you are fine with slightly used version of your books. HOWEVER, be mindful of used vs new books since sometimes used books are even at nearly full book price. Used BD are way to overpriced in our opinion. They continue to expand collection of Fandom swag. Personally we like them for the used Manga and Comic Books.

I LOVE 2nd & Charles! They have books, COMICS, video games, DVDs, vinyl, everything you can think of Pop Culture related. Blind packs and toys, its all my favorite parts of the mall rolled into one big store. And the staff here are amazing, all the way up to the corporate level. You need to check them out if you havent already, and be sure to bring a box of old books and video games when you do... so you can trade it in for cash or store credit!
