Downtown needed this place. IMO any modern residential area in a big city needs a dedicated liquor store. This is may be one of the best I have ever used. Beer selection is totally adequate and the staff is extremely knowledgable. The selection is almost entirely microbrews and imports which I think is awesome! I wish they would expand their refrigerated beer case a little and get some more brands in, but thats a totally insubstantial complaint. Im not a big wine drinker myself but the wine selection appears to be huge easily dwarfing the beers. The decor and style of the store is absolutely awesome. They usually have some manner of classy film projected towards the rear of the store where their wine tasting area is. Theyll even deliver if you happen to be having a party and need a "beer run"!!!

Fun wine shop, even if we did come in asking if they had any interesting meads, because we liked sweet wines, and were directed to a bottle that *looked* extremely interesting, advertising itself as a "mango, black pepper mead", but when we got it home and tried it, it didnt taste anything like mead, it tasted like beer. That was a disappointment. I do wish they had some proper mead-tasting meads. On the other hand, the two sweet wines we tried at their little wine bar while we were waiting for our dinner reservations, were both truly fantastic, and amazingly, quite reasonably priced given that its a wine bar and in downtown LA. The "bartender", such as it was, was pretty friendly, if a little distracted. Id totally come back and try some other things there if I was in the area again.

BUZZ Wine Beer Shop is not your typical shop. Nor is it your typical bar. The 200 monthly wine bottle change make for a unique selection that is even too crafty for the average hipster. Dont intend on finding anything mainstream here. Expect to expand your drinking experience and learn a thing or two about curated wine and beer. Here you can get quality, natural wine and beer for a price that your local grocery store couldnt match. This shop allows for not only variety, but the knowledgeable staff behind the counters ensure each bottle is personalized to your specific needs. Not to mention the iconic location on the corner of 5th and Spring St. make it easy to find. Did I mention that if youre too eager to wait to open your bottle at home theyll crack it open for you at the bar?

Love the concept of being able to buy a bottle of wine up front to drink in the bar at the back. However, they would charge you $8 corkage to do that. Skip the Beaujolais they carry. A bottle was recommended by the staff, and it tastes like sour grapes juice. Response to Wine Geek who kindly served us and commented below: Considering that the bottle was paid for in the market up front prior to the taste pour, would it have been possible to return the bottle for something else? It says on Buzzs receipt that all alcohol sales are final according to Federal and State laws. Perhaps, other patrons and I should have known that. Wine preference differs greatly between one person to the next, I am sure there are others like yourself who enjoyed the same bottle.

I love coming in here for the great wine and beer selections. Every time I do, I have a great chat with the employees, who are all very friendly and helpful, and leave with a smile on my face. One time there was someone behind the counter who started to berate the employee ringing me up. It was so rude, it could have waited until I was done buying my booze, and he just seemed so aggressive and had no awareness of how he was acting. He left, and I asked the employee who that was. "The owner..." It was almost enough to make me stay far away from this place, but alas - I love the wine and I really love the staff. After reading an employee who took his own life in the store, and how the owner handled it, I will not be coming back.

Cute, friendly little beer and wine shop with a nice (albeit limited in selection) tasting bar in the back. You can customize flights with any of the wines they have available, which is nice. I havent ever been there for any of their events, but it seems like they have quite a few events, and I would check one out if I ever heard about one and was in the area. The staff is friendly, but not necessarily the most knowledgable wine staff I have ever seen. For that, there are plenty of places in LA with better selections and more knowledgable staff (K&L, Wine House, Wine Expo). But for what it is, BUZZ is a cute little place to stop in and have a drink or two before/after dinner or an event downtown.

I will never set foot in this place again. I was brought there by a friend who thought that my organization would enjoy a wine tasting. He pointed out the owner and when I approached and asked if he was in fact the owner, I was asked "Why?". I said I wanted to say Hello. He said "You can say Hello without knowing if Im the owner." WOW. My friend told him that I am executive director of a chamber of commerce and the owner begins to tell me that they dont join any chambers of commerce. "I wasnt asking you to, I was brought here because my friend thought itd be a nice place to have an event." At that point his attitude changes and he offers me his card. No, thats okay, Ill look at another space.

Buzz Wine Beer Shop is a nice place with a decent selection on craft beer and wine. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They will occasionally host tastings. I attended a tasting for the Coney Island Brewing Company. For about $8 or $10 I got about five 4 oz tasters accompanied by their homemade potato chips. These chips were outstanding, the beer was also good. They even gave us a free Coney Island Brewing Company pint glass. This place has a nice selection of beers. This is one of the few places where I could find one of my favorite pumpkin beers; Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin. They offer free use of their beer and wine chiller with purchase. This will get your bottle ice cold in minutes.

Small Dog, Big Bite For how much square footage this place has, it really does utilize its space well. Although I cannot speak to the wine selection, I can definitely tell you I have never seen such a greater bottled craft beer selection in LA (yes, even better than BevMo). They have an area with a huge selection of single craft bombers from Belgium and Germany. New to beer? All good. Each beer, similar to Bevmo, has a short description of where its from, how much alcohol content and just a brief background about the beer on the tab so that you can navigate your way through the craze. Start slow and be aware of ABV! Some can get as high as 19%. Yum.

GREAT staff! Very knowledgeable and friendly and enthusiastic about craft beers and specialty wines. An oasis in the DTLA concrete jungle. The 16-taps at the bar are always a treat and the Thursday and Friday tastings can be a hoot (especially when the distributors or rep.s show-up to give away swag and wax poetic about their particular offerings). My favorite current beer options are Barley Forges "Patsy" and Bells "Two Hearted Ale". But, things change their a lot. So when you see your favorite beer or wine, buy more than one (it may not be there the next time you go).
