This place is awful, I had such high hopes for this place and it disappointed not once but TWICE. Not to mention the 2 times we visited this steakhouse we were celebrating a special occasion (Fathers Day & Birthday). I enjoy a good steakhouse and everything that comes from an upscale establishment from great food to good service. Needless to say, you wont get either here. On my first experience, my wife brought me here for Fathers Day and we ordered the Carpet Bagger on a Half Shell, appetizers were great. We then ordered the Porterhouse (medium-rare) for 2 and when it came out it was cold, I understand you have to let a steak rest but not to the point where it comes out cold. We asked the waiter if he could cook it a bit longer to heat it but that didnt help. We figured it was just the size of the cut since we ordered it for 2. We spoke with the manager and she offered to re-cook another steak. At that point we had already been there a good while and didnt want to wait any longer. She offered to take the steak off our bill, so we figured wed try this place again on another occasion and blamed getting a cold steak on the size of the cut. Fast forward to today on my birthday, we decided to try this place again. This time for lunch and ordered of the "restaurant weeks menu". I made reservations for 2 at 12:30, arrived at 12:15 and they seated us promptly. We ordered a drink and our food from the 3 course menu. Our drinks came out promptly but it took them a good 20-25 minutes to bring out a soup and a wedge salad. After we ate our appetizer we sat there for another 25-30 minutes without any food. I asked my waiter if he could check on our food and he came back with bread and butter. He said he asked the kitchen to rush our food, so we sat another 5-10 minutes and nothing. He came over again and said he would ask the kitchen to make our deserts to go because we had already been there an hour but we hadnt even got our food. Really? And to ask insult to injury, I ordered an ice cream trio, how do you take that to go in this HOUSTON heat? I flagged a manager and asked for my bill for my 1 drink she said dont worry about it and left without saying anything else. Not sure if she went to check on the food or the waiter, but she never came back. So if you want a good steakhouse, please dont go to B&B!

Ill admit it: the atmosphere is nice, yes, but its not unlike dozens of other restaurants in the Houston area these days. Sure, its trendy, hip and a little urban, but when youre about to drop over $200 for two on a meal, it better offer a hell of a lot more than a hipsters paradise of exposed brick and metal chairs. Dont get me wrong: I was beyond excited to try this place. Working in the restaurant industry myself, I know how highly rated B&B is. So, back to the story: our dining experience started off well. Our server, Donte, was ultimately great and very personable (hence, the one star). The bread that was served prior to the meal was meh. We started with the mussels, which we were very excited about. My first bite was full of gritty sand. Trying to be optimistic, I spit that one out and tried a few others. Most were okay, but between my husband and myself, we had several others laden with sand. Though were not ones to ever complain, we did let our waiter know so he could notify the kitchen that they were not being cleaned properly. He disappeared for a few minutes and returned with this response: "Im sorry, but the kitchen said they come already cleaned from our supplier." And you guessed it: we still paid for the $21 sandy mussels. I ordered the 14 oz. dry-aged sirloin. It was good. My husband ordered the 8 oz. Texas wagyu filet. It was also meh, having very little flavor at all. Working for some of the best steakhouses in Houston, I know a damn good steak. Thats not what we had at B&B, much to our surprise. The "classic" creamed spinach was a glorified spinach-artichoke dip sans the tortilla chips. It was disgusting. The spinach had nearly been macerated, which is unlike any other version of the classic dish weve had. We had maybe three spoonfuls of it, then couldnt stomach the rest. The creme brûlée was also good, but it was not spectacular. We both left severely disappointed and about $250 lighter for a meal that was not worth it. To make matters worse, my husband got food poisoning from our dinner, which is a takeaway we were not expecting. Looking back on it, we should have asked to speak to the manager and complained. Big mistake on our part. Simply, we will not be back, and we will certainly not recommend this restaurant to anyone, enemies and all.

I had the opportunity to have a wonderful tasting menu here. They are passionate about meat here, and they know how to cook it well. Their style combined classic dishes and progressive style food for a wonderful combination. The restaurant took the old Sunbeam bread bakery and left the old charm of this building, and added only what they needed to for a wonderful rustic decor. You will see brick walls, wooden floors, and other elements of rustic design. They have a well stocked bar that will make any cocktail lover happy. They have a good selection of wines so no matter what your taste is, you will be happy. They also sell cigars, so if you want to smoke one after a wonderful meal, you can buy a cigar. I tried three of their appetizers. I tried the Carpet Baggers, B&B Steak House Salad, and the Crispy Calamari & Peppers. For me the stand out appetizer are is the Carpet Baggers, this is fried oyster that is served with buffalo sauce, blue cheese, a thick piece of smokey bacon, and a slide of tender filet. The steak salad is made with fresh heirloom tomatoes, and is quite amazing. For the entrees I have tried the sliced filet, roasted salmon, roasted chicken breast, and chicken fried prime pork chops. They do well on all meats. For me the stand out was the chicken fried prime pork chop, a well seasoned batter fried to perfect is hard to resist. If you have room for dessert I highly recommend their cheesecake. It is New York Style cheesecake, that isnt covered in fruit, chocolate, or anything that shouldnt be there. This is a good restaurant to have a nice dinner. The service is well timed, and they arent hovering. You will enjoy a wonderful evening here.

I had the opportunity recently to be invited along with a group of other food bloggers for an evening of tasting at B&B. A very positive experience. Excellent food, flawless service. One of the high points of my year. This allowed me to sample so many dishes from their menu, something that would have been challenging were one to arrive as a just one to dine. When I walked in, and by the way, this venue is absolutely beautiful, the bar was hopping and the dining room was filling up nicely. I immediately thought of the Chicago or New York dining scene, where persons working downtown would unwind over drinks or dinner before heading out to their homes in the suburbs. Historically, Houston has been a town where people deserted it at 5:00, braving the rush hour traffic to get home to family. But maybe we are in the midst of a change. With Washington Avenue being so close to downtown, that is. And also, so many people living closer in, we may start to see the same thing. And I think B&B will be one of the places. It has so many things done right. First, I will let the food photos speak for themselves rather than talk about the food here. I will instead talk about the outdoor patio where you can watch the lights go on around downtown as the sun sets. And about the white tablecloth dining room that is luxuriously appointed with wood details. The lovely wine room as you first walk in. And the bar and extra dining room upstairs where we had our event. Highly recommended.
