This store is my idea of the perfect urban grocery store - nestled in among other local businesses downtown. I see a lot of people complaining about the parking, but I never really have a problem - if you go at peak times, you may have to circle a few times, but most of the time it is not an issue. I visit about once a week, on the weekends and look forward to my trip every time. My son and I usually go together and have a bite to eat at the salad and hot foods bar, and then shop for delicious and healthy items that mostly cannot be found anywhere else. Some items are pricey, but a lot of items are comparable or cheaper than at the other grocery stores. You just have to be selective. And I would be lost without the vitamin and herb section; there is no place else in town that has as thorough a selection, and if they dont have something they will special order it for you at no extra charge. Customer service is always excellent, and on several occasions where I noticed a pricing error, which happens everywhere btw, they have insisted on giving me the item for free. Love my Durham Whole Foods!

Its so important to know and trust the place and people you buy your food from and its the people at this store that make shopping here worth every trip, despite the tiny always crowded parking lot. The staff will help learn that Whole Foods doesnt have to mean "whole paycheck!" They just care, which cant be said about every grocery store or every Whole Foods! Ive shopped here for years and I am normally in the store a few times a week. One example of which there are many...I had to have some surgery and it prevented me from getting out of the house for weeks, and I just missed Whole Foods so I found someone to take me wheelchair and all and we didnt even get thru the first set of sliding doors when 5 team members were there to greet me and said "how are you?/we missed you!/wheres your shopping list you hang out well get everything you need/etc..." Take a chance, ask them questions, if you want to eat better theyre there to help! Thank you Whole Foods Durham!

This location once had lots of advantages, but now it is just a nightmare. they use to stay open till 10 p.m which made sense and gave them an edge up over the chapel hill location which closed at 9. And be very busy up until then, now they have changed the hours to 9pm, which results in sections like the fresh seafood being broken down and cleaned at 830pm. And prepare to catch an attitude if the guy had to go to the fridge to get an item he already put up before closing. On top of that - they are consistently out of items. Ive tried to get the blueberry granola and cherry granola they make in store - hasnt been made in over 3 weeks. Ive even spoke to a manager about it, who said to check back 2 days later - still wasnt made. The store is cramped and the parking is a nightmare. I used to have nothing but great things to say about this store - but it has went downhill in a big way. Go to the Chapel Hill location or just find another store to shop at!

Its a Whole Foods, so at baseline it has beautiful produce, better than average meats and fish, a good dairy selection, and great baked goods. Their usual organic miscellany and exotic foods are also available. All, of course, sold at high prices. If that were the whole story, this review would be a 4 or 5. Unfortunately, the physical plant of this place is its downfall. Sure its in a trendy location, but parking is horrible (busy and small lot with tiny spaces), and the store is crammed tight. On a busy day, youre packed in and navigating a full cart is a pain. Trendy is fine, but trendy to the point of discomfort is not. Its the grocery equivalent of skinny jeans. On a side note, it didnt help that one of the cashiers called my shopping companion, "Pops." Seriously, "Pops?" Im sorry, but unless youve jumped a shark, or find yourself in the 60s after a ride in a DeLorean, you dont call a paying customer, "Pops."

The people that work here are amazing. Extremely knowledgeable! Especially the ladies in the herbal/health/personal care section! I seriously dont know how they work in such small, hectic quarters everyday, but bless them! As a store in general, I love Whole Foods. I hate this store though -- not for the workers, but for location and space issues. Parking is horrible! Most (not all) of the customers I have came into contact are extremely rude. Glad Im not the only one who feels that way! They especially have poor parking lot/driving manners! The super small parking lot and spaces are already hard enough to navigate, without the additional people wanting to play bumper cars with you. The actual store has expanded, which is awesome, but I can no longer shop here.

Horrible experience. We stopped in for a quick snack before a party. I grabbed a chicken salad, cheese, and cracker "to-go pack" made, packaged, and labeled on site by them. I specifically checked the ingredient list as I am allergic to nuts, and it was labeled as being fine. However, upon eating a few bites, the recipe clearly had chopped nuts mixed in. Turns out it was a different recipe of theirs, but not labeled correctly. They were very apologetic, and gave us a new small package of chicken salad made/dated on a different day, but the damage was done. If someone with a more severe allergy had this experience, it could have resulted in an ambulance ride, but for me it meant just 3-4 hours of feeling terrible.

This WF is convenient to where I live, but Ive seen better. I really miss having access to a mom & pop style health food store. Im just not the greatest fan of franchised health food. This store offers a very limited selection of bulk food items-- I guess owing to its small size. In fact, the store is much too small for the periodic hoards that descend upon the place. It appears that many of the patrons shop there (mainly) for the hot food and deli. (By the way, Ive found some of those foods contain alcohol for some odd reason. So, read the labels carefully and ask questions.) As for the prices, they are typical of Whole Foods hence the "Whole Paycheck" pseudonym! This is what happens when theres NO competition.

I like Whole Foods in general and shop at the Durham store several times a week. But I dont understand why they are unable to keep fresh pastry and rolls in the fresh bakery display past late morning. It is frustrating to not be able to purchase bakery items found in the Raleigh stores at any given time. Also, I used to buy the mini tarts that had fresh fruit in them, but have stopped since they continue to put a large green grape in them. Why not use fresh blackberries, raspberries and kiwi like the other stores use? Cheap looking. I would rather pay more for what the other WF stores sell. Last, I have purchased pre-packaged almonds only to find them out of date and stale. My error to not have checked,

This whole foods is just across from Dukes East Campus, which has a nice walking path. I like to take a walk with my kids then stop in for a treat. However, tonight a security guard kicked me out of the parking lot even though the lot was not full. Were only allowed to park there while we are in the stores. I can understand that on a busy weekend or something, but thursday? They dont need to worry, I wont park there anymore, and I wont make a special trip there to pick up the specialty items I used to shop there for. I guess we discovered why they are so expensive- they have to pay for a security guard to keep those empty spaces safe.
