This is a great place if youre looking for a high-end, fancy, restaurant that cooks great food. As with any high-end place, the food is more on the pricey side, but definitely worth it for that special occasion out. Since I live very close to this restaurant, I have eaten here many times for birthdays, special family events, and having dinner with a large group of friends [which they did a great job accomidating]. Each time I go, the food is consistently well prepared and tastes delicious. They have a good selection of food for both breakfast and dinner [havent been here for lunch], and you can never go wrong. Along with the main food on the menu, they also have a front area thats a deli and bakery. Here they sell various meats [ex. prosciutto] and baked goods [cupcakes. cakes, pastries, etc.]. Although I have never purchased any meat from Food Dance due to its price, I love getting dessert from them because its always amazing. I personally love their large cupcake, however, all their desserts look delicious. Along with food they also have some cute cooking utensils and whatnot. If youre looking for a fancy place to enjoy great food this is the place to go. Whether youre stopping by Kalamazoo, or need a fancy place to eat, theres something on the menu for everyone.

Ive been to Food Dance several times, and Ive decided Im not going back. Ive always heard rave reviews but usually I walk away unimpressed. The atmosphere is different, which is a nice change considering the rest of kzoo restaurants, but if its a busy night (Friday/Saturday) youll have trouble hearing people at a big table. The staff is very friendly and usually speedy - the one thing missing is tasty food. I appreciate the push for local/organic foods and dont mind paying extra, as long as it tastes good. The last time I went I ordered the $17 mac and cheese which had less flavor than Kraft out of the box. For that much money it should be something special. I also tried breakfast once and ordered a Mexican scramble dish, which was bland and forgettable. Unless they start making more flavorful dishes Ill take my money, and my palate, elsewhere.

Went last night for dinner -- our first visit. This is a very special place. Theyre not trying to be Chez Panisse or Masas. Not trying to start a new culinary trend here. They just want to do really good food really well prepared and -- which is just as important to this reviewer -- in a beautiful, warm, welcoming, enjoyable atmosphere. I commented on this and discovered that they used local artists to design the seating areas. Apparently that was a good idea. Theres a little whimsy, but mostly its just the best-looking, most comfortable interior of any place Ive been. OK, except for Chez Panisse -- but that is far away and long ago. Anyway - the whole experience is what counts. A fine restaurant should pay as much attention to atmosphere and to service as to food, and this one does. In a couple hours, were going back again for breakfast.

Food Dance is quite possibly the best restaurant in the region. Their food is always excellent and nontraditional, and they even manage to prepare it relatively fast. If you need something custom, theyll handle it, and theyll never disappoint. The food is flavorful, diverse, and organic. In my experience, the breakfasts are better than dinner/lunch, but theyre all wonderful. What really sets Food Dance apart is its staff, however. I am not a "regular" because the restaurant is a bit pricey, but the last time I came in, a staff member treated me to a dessert on the house. I always tend to customize my food a tad for nutritional reasons and I have an addiction problem with the bread that they serve with meals, but the staff doesnt miss a beat. I highly recommend Food Dance to anyone looking for a nice, healthy, and nontraditional meal or baked goods.

Monday night my husband and I had a celebration dinner at food dance. I want you to know this is my favorite place in Kalamazoo. It was the first place we took our children when they came to visit for Christmas. Sadly our meal was awful, the Niman beef was like a meatball briquette, my husband had the pork chop, it was like rubber.I also want to know who is hand cutting shoestring potatoes. Our waiter was great and attentive. I love the whole concept of your buisness, fresh, local, but if is not cooked properly there is no point. We had mussels for an appetizer, always my favorite, there were more than half a dozen unopened in the bowl, that should not have left the kitchen! I am sorry to have to write this, but if you dont hear from us about these things they wont get better. Thanks for your time. Catherine Neve

AVOID AT ALL COSTS: I have had the displeasure of eating at this 3 times now, you might ask if its so bad why go back? The first time I took a girl on a date and it was voluntary. The other two were times I was along for the ride for birthdays. ALL THREE TIMES Ive had nasty food, the pulled pork sandwich was soggy and over priced on a cheap roll thats less than Arbys quality. The spinach mac n cheese was inconsistant, with noodles that were dry on top and the sauce was gross. The wine list is ridiculous, over priced stuff, $35+ for some $7.99 world market crap. its easy to drop $100 dollars on a BAD TIME here. im WELL INFORMED of this place, ive talked to staff that say its a rip off too. Hope I helped to avoid you spending time/$ at a hyped up place that clearly doesnt deserve it.

The atmosphere at Food Dance is very comfortable, warm, artistic and inviting. The staff is very informative and friendly. The bar is a nice place to sit after work or at night and you will usually pick up a conversation with someone sitting next to you. The food smells amazing from the kitchen but its not as good as what you are paying for. The menu could be a little larger or change more often and some of the items it could do without. I enjoy that they incorporate local foods and ingredients as much as possible. Overall if you are going to try this place out you should order the ultimate mac and cheese, i know it sounds silly but its the best thing on the menu and youll never want to eat another mac and cheese again!

Went there with a group of friends who were raving about this place...My first impression....Nice interior decor....Thats it! The food is way overpriced! This place is overhyped! I ordered the pad thai.....it was awful! Please REMOVE that Pad thai from your menu....It was terrible..Noddles were soggy...had no Asian (not to talk of Thai)-whatsoever-touch to it ..Not sure I will be going back...ranks top 5 in worst spent money ever! By the way this is my first time EVER writing a review (i just had to do it)...so I might not be as organized in my line of thought. This place has not lived up to its hype!

Good quality, tasty food. Our kids look forward to stopping here when we pass through. Our servers are always lovely; knowledgeable and friendly. It is loses a star because it is trying so hard it makes itself miss sometimes. They use lovely fresh bread they should be proud of, but to make sure you notice they cut it uncomfortably thick (on the sandwiches). Or use a lot of filling to be generous, but which makes whatever youre eating structurally unsound. It makes eating more of a challenge than I like. But I imagine more people like the feeling of quantity, so Im sure it works out for them.
