PEP BOYS, CHICAGO RIDGE SCAM REVIEW DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR IN FOR SERVICE AT THE PEP BOYS IN THE CHICAGO RIDGE, IL. LOCATION. THE EXACT LOCATION IS 10100 SOUTH RIDGELAND AVE. MY 75 YEAR OLD SISTER CALLED AND TOLD ME SHE TOOK HER 2006 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX TO PEP BOYS TO HAVE THE FRONT RIGHT DIRECTIONAL SIGNAL BULB REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS BURNED OUT. AFTER THEIR SERVICE GUY CHECKED OUT THE OTHER THREE DIRECTIONAL SIGNAL BULBS VERIFYING THEY WERE ALL WORKING AND FLASHING HE TOLD HER THAT SHE WAS RIGHT AND THE ONE BULB WAS BURNED OUT. THIS WAS SATURDAY 5-27-17 AND THE GUY EXPLAINED THAT THEY WERE CLOSING AND SHE WOULD HAVE TO RETURN IN THE MORNING. MY SISTER THAN WENT BACK IN THE MORNING ON 5-28-17 AND EXPLAINED THAT SHE NEEDED THE BULB REPLACED AND THAT SHE WAS THERE THE NIGHT BEFORE AND TALKED TO THE SERVICE TECH WHO CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM. AFTER WAITING A WHILE FOR THE SERVICE DEPT. TO GIVE HER A PRICE TO REPLACE THE BULB A MR. BERT ECKSTEIN GAVE HER AN ESTIMATE FOR $83.58, EXPLAINING TO HER THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO TAKE HER FRONT BUMPER OFF TO REPLACE THE BULB. SHE COULDNT BELIEVE THE COST TO REPLACE THE BULB SO SHE DECLINED THE SERVICE. SHE THAN WENT HOME AND CALLED ME TO SEE IF THIS WAS NORMAL. AFTER TELLING HER THAT THIS WAS A SCAM I STOPPED AT WALMART AND PICKED UP A PACKAGE OF TWO BULBS FOR $5.67 AND WENT TO HER HOUSE TO REPLACE THE BULB. I AM NOT EXAGGERATING NOW WHEN I SAY IT TOOK ME LESS THAN 5 MINUTES TO REPLACE THE BULB. I TOOK OFF TWO SCREWS, PULLED THE LIGHT OUT, REPLACED THE BULB AND PUT THE TWO SCREWS BACK TO HOLD THE LIGHT IN. MY SISTER GAVE ME THE ESTIMATE THEY HAD GIVEN HER AND IT ITEMIZED AS FOLLOWS: 1. SMALL BULBS INSTALLED: $9.99 2. PHILLIPS BULBS FRONT TURN SIGNAL: $5.99 3. REMOVE AND REPLACE TURN SIGNAL FLASHER: $57.50 {REMEMBER NOW THE SERVICE TECH VERFIED THAT THE OTHER 3 TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS WERE WORKING AND FLASHING TELLING US THAT THE FLASHER WAS FINE.} AND FINALLY 4. SHOP FEE: $6.34 AND A TAX OF $1.46 FOR WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN A GRAND TOTAL OF $81.28, BUT THEIR TOTAL SHOWED $83.58. I MIGHT ADD THERE IS NO MENTION OF TAKING THE FRONT BUMPER OFF AS BERT ECKSTEIN EXPLAINED TO HER, NEEDED TO REPLACE THE BULB. I REMIND YOU NOW WITHOUT EXAGGERATION IT TOOK ME LESS THAN 5 MINUTES TO REPLACE THAT BULB. IM 71 YEARS OLD AND HAVE CHANGED MANY MANY BULBS IN MY LIFE-TIME AND I HAVE TO SAY THIS WAS ONE OF THE EASIEST BUBS TO CHANGE, EVER.... BEING FURIOUS OVER THIS ESTIMATE I RETURNED TO THE STORE WITH MY SISTER AND ASKED TO TALK TO THE MANAGER A MR. DAVID WASHINGTON. HE SPENT MORE TIME TRYING TO JUSTIFY THIS ESTIMATE THAN REALLY GIVING ME AN HONEST EXPLANATION. FIRST WHEN I TOLD HIM IT TOOK ME LESS THAN 5 MINUTES TO CHANGE THE BULB HE SAID THEY USE A LABOR TIME GUIDE THAT STATES HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE TO CHANGE THE BULB, AND THIS IS HOW THEY CHARGE FOR THAT SERVICE. I SAID SHOW ME.....AFTER SCREWING AROUND WITH THE COMPUTER FOR A BIT HE CAME UP WITH A NEW ESTIMATE OF $54.00 AND WHEN I ASKED TO VIEW HIS COMPUTER HE SAID, OH WAIT YOU SAID A HEADLIGHT? I TOLD HIM THAT I ALREADY TOLD HIM 3 OR 4 TIMES IT WAS A DIRECTIONAL SIGNAL BULB. HE THAN CAME UP WITH A FIGURE OF $17.00 TO CHANGE THE BULB. HE WOULDNT GIVE ME THE NAME OF THE PERSON WHO DREW UP THIS ESTIMATE UNTIL I TOLD HIM THAT THIS WAS A SCAM AND THAT I WAS GOING ONLINE TO POST MY REVIEW. THAN I WOULD CALL HEADQUARTERS CORP. TO VOICE A COMPLAINT THERE. HE THAN SHOWED ME THE NAME OF THE PERSON WHICH WAS ON THE ESTIMATE THAT I HAD OVER-LOOKED. HE SAID HE WOULD TALK TO BERT ECKSTEIN AFTER WE LEAVE. IT IS MY VIEW THAT THIS MANAGER IS IN ON THE SCAM TO RUN UP THE BILL FOR A SIMPLE SERVICE AND WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE. THEY SAW A 75 YEAR OLD LADY ASKING TO HAVE A BULB CHANGED AND FIGURED SHE WOULDNT KNOW BETTER OTHERWISE SHE WOULD HAVE JUST ASKED SOMEONE SHE KNOWS TO CHANGE THE BULB. MY SISTER BEING THE PERSON SHE IS DOESNT LIKE TO BOTHER ANYONE. THIS PEP BOYS IS RUNNING A SCAM WHEN IT COMES TO SERVICE AND I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW IT. I WILL LOOK FOR ADDITIONAL PLACES I CAN PLACE THIS REVIEW AND I WILL CALL CORP.

I love this place. Ive had nothing but good things happen here. I use to go to Rubin the service writer that use to work there, but he got transferred out to another location; Rubin was fantastic, always going out of his way to help me. Now that Rubin has been gone for a couple of years, Ive been going to Burt the service writer. Talk about extremely excellent customer service. Burt is amazing, I like his customer service skills, always helpful and polite. Burt even helped me by giving me advice on how to save a couple of dollars on repairs too (especially with this economy). I wont go to anyone else but Burt, because the other service writers dont seem to have the empathy and customer service skills that Burt seems to have with his customers. I say great job to this Pep Boys, and thank you.

I just came from this location because I needed an oil change and for them to check my trunk release, which is not working. I made the appointment over a week ago and indicated these services, yet when I arrived there this morning, the agent told me that I would need to schedule a separate appointment for the truck release check. No one told me this ahead of time, but why would it take two different days for this? It is a trunk release issue, not a problem with the engine. I did not even let them do my oil change for wasting my time like that.

I own a 2006 Cadillac DTS. I tried this location some years ago for another car and received good service. Thought I would give them another try. Took car in for alignment, Mr. Washington answered my concerns very professionally and made me feel quite comfortable. Service was done in a timely manner and the best part was my drive home. My baby handled like never before! I dont know what they did that Cadillac didnt but I am very happy and cannot wait for my next road trip!! Thank you Mr. Washington and staff

Ive taken my car to this Pep Boys a couple of times, for new shocks and struts and a blown timing belt. Each time Ive taken it there theyve been helpful, honest about what I needed done and able to fix my problems. Theyre also good about pointing out any current specials or coupons Pep Boys has available to save you money on the repairs you need done. Highly recommended.

Retail wise they have a good variety of products, staff are reasonably helpful. On the service side I have had about 25 interactions there and eventually stopped going. Majority of the time service was acceptable, rather slow (waited 2+ hours for oil change several times) and a few times the interaction with the service staff just left me with a bad impression.

terrible location/ chain. Will sell you things you dont need, take longer then needed with your car and way over charge you. Shop manager David ill then harass you for payment. Mechanic Jamie will also lie to you about business practices and progress of your vehicle STAY FAR FAR AWAY
