I went here yesterday just to get tires rotated on one of my cars. I have been here many times before with several different kinds of vehicles and purchased four brand new tires in the past and there has never been an issue. Staff has always been kind, polite, and service oriented. But yesterday was a different story. I explained to Matt; I can only assume was a manager that I all I wanted was to have the tires rotated. I could not afford anything more. We looked at the tires and he explained to me that the two that I had on the front end of my car were in the red as far as tread goes. So it was an issue of safety and I totally get that. Last thing that I want is an accident. I asked him if he had any used tires that he could set me up with as inexpensively as possible. Yes, two used tires for $126.18. Cool! Do it. Because I was there early on a Saturday; I was in and out. I had to make a stop at an auto part store for my other car, a stop at the pharmacy, and then later went to the store. When I came out of the store I noticed that one of the original tires that was moved to the front to make room for the two used tires I purchased was going flat in less than 3 hours since going to Discount Tire in Tomball. So I went back and said, "Whats up! Can you fix this?" Sure, so they pull it in and pull off the tire and bring it to me. There were two nice sized divot chunks taken out of the tire where it seals to the rim and they tell me that they cannot fix it and that I will have to buy two more tires. WHAT?!! Not just no, but hell NO! Did you run these on any sort of machine? No the guy tells me. We just rotated them to the front as you asked. Okay, well the notches that are missing in the tire are directly across from one another. I have not driven more than 8 miles on them. They were fine when I brought it in and now you are telling me I have to buy 2 more tires when I could not afford the ones I got originally this morning? Yes sir, we dont have any sort of machinery that would do that to your tire. How do I know that you are telling the truth? LET ME SEE YOUR MANAGER! The service man left and came back and told me okay sir we are going to give you a new tire. DAMN RIGHT YOU WILL! Always spot check your tires before you leave and over the next 24 hours after you have left.

First off, I just want to say that Ive used Discount Tire for the last 5 years and 4 sets of tires on my car with no trouble. They are the first people I recommend to anybody looking for tires. My last visit and set of tires in September, didnt have such a pleasant outcome. This is the first time I used the Tomball location. They gave me a great price on the tires and we setup an appointment to install them. The only two requests I made of them was to use the jacking pucks and to have my original valve stem caps returned to me. I wait around the couple hours it takes to have the work done and when I inspect the new tires, I noticed they manage to somehow damage all 4 wheels and all of my stem caps are not original. Some of the damage was noticeably from the wheel machine (scratches around the edges) but there was other damage that I have no idea how they managed to accomplish. Some of the spokes had deep gouges in the finish and some of the center-caps had scratches in the paint as if they would have just thrown it down face first. I talked to the manager on duty about this issues and he was skeptical that the damage was caused by them. Also, when I showed him all of the issues I clearly pointed out the one area of preexisting damage. They ended up having their claims department open a case. They sent an inspector to my home to take pictures of the wheels and he indicated to me that some of the damage looked "normal" and that some of the other places were unusual. Discount Tire ended up denying all responsibility for any of the damage, including the places that are typical of an employee that doesnt know how to properly mount low profile, run-flat tires. I didnt get an apology or even a slight discount off of the work performed to mount and balance. There is no way to really dispute the case any further because it is my word against theirs. It is certainly not worth pursing in court and I dont really have any evidence I could provide. If you have nice wheels, I would strongly recommend taking pictures of the 4 wheels before having work done so you have some proof to protect you against their screw-ups. I still will have no hesitation using Discount Tire, but I will protect myself from now on.

Discount Tire; Tomball, TX (Acting Manager Chad) Refused to honor the balance warranty: My tires were 3/32 tread x 2 rear and 5/52 front x 2. Tires had original 90K miles and very even wear. I had purchased a life time balance from Discount Tire when I purchased the car new. Discount would not honor the life time balance because I refused to rotate my tires. They said I was required to put the 3/32 tread tires on the front and had a movie for me to watch instructing that had to be done. However there was no proven data for my make and model car that proved it to be safer for the tires to be rotated that way with my tread depth. I believe I know my driving habits, roads, etc. better than Chad @ Discount Tire in Tomball, TX and have more safe miles under my belt than he did before he was born and can safely determine the best location for my tires and extended mileage usage. The bottom line is I purchased a warranty for balancing and Discount Tire "REFUSED" to honor it on the tires that met DOT tread depth and conditions of the warranty.

Be very careful. My wife went in to get tires for her van. They automatically sold her TPMS kits for $40.00. The thing is her van is not equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system. When I talked to the manager he said "our computer shows it has them" and he questioned whether I knew for sure it did or did not have TPMS. He then told me how the system automatically adds it to vehicles that show to have TPMS. I asked what happens if it doesnt need the parts and his answer was they are supposed to then take it off the invoice. I wonder how many people have been charged for parts never installed on their vehicle? This is flat out fraud and theft!!!! By the way I have worked in Dealerships for 23 years as a parts manager, service manager and Fixed ops director. I now own my own independent consulting company working in/for dealerships everyday so I know what a TPMS system is and I do know fraud when I see it.

I have been going to this particular location for a few years now. I can safely say I dont feel ripped off when I go in there (being a woman youd expect that, right?). They honor their warranties (Ive tried and tested it), theyre thorough, and let me know exactly what they did and found and didnt make me feel stupid in doing so. I just got off the phone with Thomas and he rocks! He gave me the information I needed and even offered additional info to make my experience better. (He suggested a place I could get a good alignment for a good price and then looked up the number for the business for me.) Granted, the wait does take a bit, but theres restaurants right across the street or right next door! Take a book or go get a sandwich - its not THAT bad!! See you soon guys :-D
