In summary; they neglect cold blooded and aquatic animals and abuse birds and rodents. Dont give them money. Its like a car accident, gets worse to look at the closer you get. They have a bunch of mid tier products one would find at Petco or any other reputable pet store (yes Petco is more humane than them). Got greeted by a scruffy looking dog, which was nice, until I saw the dog hobbling around the shop with a leash dragging behind it. They keep the animals other than fish (which were all in small algae ridden tanks) in a back room where you cant immediately see them, and its a terrible industrial looking space. The mice are all crowded into small ten gallon tanks by the two dozen in mixed genders and ages, which leads to the sad sight of countless ill, pregnant, and clearly distressed mice crowded and piled together. The hamsters, while fewer in number, were in similar dissaray. If you dont know, mice and hamsters are territorial and need carefully measured space to make sure they dont kill each other or sicken themselves with stress. The birds were all shrieking, which stressed each other out and led to more shrieking, and it was to the point where some birds were clambering across the ceilings and spinning around on the floor of small cages. Oh, and all the bird and rodent cages had a water bottle, a food bowl, and bedding, no toys or shelters at all. Two and three foot boas were in the same size tanks as the mice. And again, ask the animals were in one room to distress each other further. Giving this business money is rewarding industrial practice that leads to sick, miserable animals. The last straw for me was seeing that dog drag its leash across the ground, revealing giant dust bunnies. I recommend disobeying the "no cameras" directive the sign at the closed door to the animal room declares, it genuinely angers me that they get away with this.

there is not a more egregious sight than the clear mistreatment of animals for profit. I asked the pet store owner if he has any knowledge on the implications of putting rodents, reptiles and loud tropical birds in the same poorly ventilated room, and he told me that he saw nothing wrong. I asked him if he noticed that his guinea pigs were diseased, and he said they were not, when they clearly were, one being hunched over, with puffed up hair and crusting eyes, breathing very slowly, his cagemate with crusting skin on its hind legs from what appeared to be as mites (and going deaf, or were deaf, since the guinea pig frequency hearing range goes up to 50khz and the birds in the same room were constantly screaming at incredibly high frequencies). I was flabbergasted by the owner and his clear denial of what was in front of him, and I know for sure that it was denial and not a lack of knowledge, since there were "Do Not Take Photos" signs everywhere in the store. Nothing suspicious about that. Needless to say, I began to take photos as evidence of it all- the tropical parrot running loose across the floor, the diseased animals, and then he, the store owner, ran up to me from across the store and told me to get out immediately. There was a nice couple next to me that was just as shocked as I was at the conditions the animals were in. Pardon the expression, but I was kicked out of the store for serving the store owner his own ass. In Summary- the man who runs The Pet Store on Harvard Avenue in Allston is a criminal. I told him calmly that animal abuse is a serious crime, and according to the many terrible reviews on Google of his business, many people agree that he is doing something very wrong. This man should NOT have his business in operation due to the conditions he keeps the animals in. THIS STORE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY

This place is like a closet stuffed with anything they think they can sell, with no regard to the animals therein. The first time I went there, there was this massive Macaw in a bare cage barely its size hanging half upside down half sideways and banging its beak on the cage, shrieking....it was, needless to say, very disturbing. This theme for general neglect seems to run through to all the animals, fish, reptiles and all, excluding some dogs running around under your feet with leashes still on, making them excellent tripping objects. Thankfully they dont sell dogs or cats but I dont think that excuses their treatment of the other animals at all. Aside from all this, Its absurdly expensive. I mean retardedly expensive. I walked in to get a couple of salamanders, a ten gallon tank a filter and a few plants and would have left a hundred plus dollars short. In short, dont go there unless you want to be either: disturbed; ripped off; given a selection that could be beaten by a dump; or given some disease due to the uncleanliness. Dont waste your time. Hopefully the owners will realize this and get a clue.

This place is gross. The day we went, the tanks were so gunked up with algae and who knows what else, so much that I couldnt even see the fish for sale, in ANY tank. Secondly, there were literally supplies ALL over the floor, which made it hard to walk around in that place. No one was bothering to put it away either; instead they were just sipping from their mugs at the counter and talking to each other. The place overall was dirty, with cat fur everywhere, and apathetic employees that didnt seem very knowledgable about the business. Also, they had a hyacinth macaw in the back with the other birds, with bad headbanger music playing so loudly that it must not have been good for the animals who have sensitive hearing to begin with. It was upsetting actually. Needless to say, we left without purchasing anything and we wont be going back. I recommend no one else go here either, for fear of getting sketchy dirty fish and other animals.

Pet Shop is small, but it has a good variety of animals. The prices are much higher than what you would find at Petco or any other pet super-store, but the animals are much friendlier. Its clear that they are handled often and are very tame. The staff are also very friendly. They answered all my questions and let me pick up and hold many of the animals. From ferrets to snakes, every animal I held was very docile and not at all skittish. This is something you dont really see at most bigger pet stores. A lot of pets Ive gotten from those kind of stores were clearly not handled much and liked to bite. I recommend getting food, cages, ect. at the bigger chain stores because it will probably be much cheaper, but the pet itself should be bought here.

Extremely unsatisfied with service here today This guy seemed like he was around 30s, bold and wearing glasses was swearing at girls that were looking around the store he was calling them "Assholes" just for looking around not just once, but until we left the store. We were quite forced to leave the store. Never got treated like this as customers before. I would never purchase any thing from a person like this. It was quite racial discrimination as there were other white people but they were fine, but just us who were Asians At such a highly educated city of Boston Todays experience was a shock If I could leave a 0 star. I totally would.
