Perhaps he knows fountain pens, but beware of his selection of used stereo equipment. I purchased a hodgepodge of components (turntable, receiver, speakers, cassette deck) totaling over $400. The turntable had tracking problems and the receiver had a broken line in, with intolerable fuzz when connected to the tape player. I took the two items back and he supplied me with a different turntable and receiver. The turntable was golden but the receiver had a number of problems, none detectable when listening to it in the store. I brought it in for a replacement, and of course the only options required more money. So I slapped it down, assured by his assurances (hopeful, rather) and it turns out this one also has problems. Namely, one of the channels in the line out doesnt work properly, so recordings made to the tape player are inaudible. I am convinced this seemingly nice old man simply knows nothing about stereo equipment. His act is stale and disingenuous. Avoid his equipment like the plague.

I went for fountain pen ink. The Vintage Fountain Pen Store has a variety of ink colors at a relatively low price (even if it is all the same brand). Thats the nice part: a local place to buy ink if youre in need. To check on his pricing for his pens I pointed to a bucket of colored Parker Jotters and asked for the price. $30 a jotter. What? Special discontinued colors? Then after explaining that I just wanted something to beat around, the salesman (and owner?) showed me another box of $30 Jotters and a box of pens that were clearly taken from doctor offices for free (still had medicine advertisements on some) marked $5 each. Id go for ink but thats about it.

A good shop if all you need is ink -- one of the best supplies around at reasonable prices. The owner is very opinionated, which while amusing, isnt necessary. He knows a great deal about pens, but his notions are sometimes off the mark (for instance, insisting a Parker 21 is superior to a 51.) Prices on vintage and new pens are well above market value--so be careful to check prices elsewhere in order to haggle with the owner. The shop also does repairs and can occasionally offer hard-to-find replacement parts for a good price.

I bought a cheap fountain pen from a big chain store before I knew what I was doing. I went there to get a converter so I didnt need ink cartridges anymore. The owner didnt recognize my pen, but he was sure he knew how it was constructed. When he couldnt get a converter to fit, he nearly destroyed the pen trying to make it work. I stopped him before he did any real damage, but he wanted to tear it apart and make the converter fit.

The guy who owns and runs the place is definitely a no nonsense person, but he really knows his stuff. Being new to fountain pens I feel like I learned a lot from the experience when he pretty quickly fixed my issue and explained to me what happened. They sell a wide variety of things there but mostly pens.

I drove over an hour to check this place out. There was a phone number on the door. I called the number and left a message even though the hours were clearly marked. I planned on buying some ink and possibly a couple pens, but I cant do that unless the place is open. Maybe next time I come to columbus.
