I really tried to like the place, but after having spent half of the day there buying a few simple things because the staff is so incompetent, its definitely a one star! First of all, they were replacing merchandise in the middle of the day and when I asked someone for help, she went to find a sales associate and returned telling me she couldnt find anyone. When eventually I found someone to help me, I asked the lady to get a pair of curtains and a throw for me from the back. She returned to tell me that she placed my items by the cash register, and then left. When I got to the cash register, I found out that all three items were wrong color!!! When I asked the lady who brought them out for me about it, she simply said they didnt have the colors that I wanted!!! Arent you supposed to say something about it before you place the items at the register? Then I wanted a rug, but they didnt have one in the back, but they told me that I could have the one on display at a final sale price 20% off. I asked for it to be taken down. I waited FOREVER for someone to take it down and roll it up and when I went to pay for it, the girl at the register simply would not believe me that it was a display item and I was suppose to get 20% off. She kept asking me "Who told you that?" And as I tried to describe the people I spoke to and explained to her that I dont know their names, she just kept staring at me with a blank expression. She finally got a manager and he told her that the rug was (!) new. I almost lost it at that point. I told him I watched it being taken down off the rack! His come back was "yeah, but its still new!" They finally honored the discount, but it didnt stop there - the girl tried to fold my rug instead of rolling it, and when she tried to do a really bad job rolling it, I just had to go behind the register and roll it for her! I felt so frustrated and tired after shopping there, that Im never setting my foot in that store again. Quite a few people have a "girl from the hood" attitude and thats just not the customer service I want to get. If they position themselves a step up from ikea but act like Walmart, theres a big disconnect there!

This is the MOST HORRIBLE STORE! 1) The furniture is really crappy, the headboard that I ordered the back was totally unfinished, there were HOLES in IT 2) not only that they HORRIBLE delivery service only comes when its convenient for them, not you, and if the time that they select (dont worry, they wont call you and tell you when they are coming either, just will show up at the door) they expect to wait SEVERAL weeks. 3) Out of all the 4 pieces of furniture I ordered, only one actually got delivered! I spent months waiting for furniture that never came and their online, "in store", and warehouse businesses have entirely different ordering systems that dont talk to each other....which after spending over $5,000 and HOURS waiting to talk to NUMEROUS, NUMEROUS customer service personnel (Online, On the Phone, and eventually In Store, that will NEVER actually help you, leads customer service person telling "dresser, you ordered a dresser? Are you sure....all I see is a headboard." ....Yes, I had unfortunately ordered not only a headboard, but a dresser and sofa and rug....To be transferred to another person, who can tell you its been ordered but not where it is, to another that will tell you its being delivered but thats another service, and then call the delivery service, and they tell you the furniture isnt ready for delivery and all I have now is a headboard full of holes and I CONTINUE to fight, hours every week to get refunded the money for furniture that was lost and NEVER delivered, I ordered it in June, its now September.....Love yourself enough to NEVER SHOP HERE!!!

I ordered furniture in July and still have not received anything in a satisfactory condition! 1) Got white glove service on a console- the item arrived 5 weeks after payment - damaged and built upside down. I do not understand how you can build your own product incorrectly and manage to ship it without any quality control measures. I called about 100 times and the delivery company/customer service kept me on hold for about 40minutes each time. They also frequently took my name and number and NEVeR called back as they said they would. My latest call was to have the item replaced and I was told that they were happy to pick it up but the item is. Or back ordered to January 2017?! This is after I spent a fortune on other items that the design lab recommended - all to match the effing console! Now Im stuck with a broken item till January (best case scenario) or no furniture for 6 months because o cant find anything that matches the rest of my west elm stuff 2) bought a $1000 dresser in store. Theyve forgotten about the order, misplaced the shipping details, found it in another store but not able to send it home.... blah blah blah MULTIPLE calls later - I still have no furniture West elm STOLE MY MONEY. $1600 later, I am still calling daily for updates on my furniture. Do not shop here. Go to CB2 - similar style, better quality and service

I have had the worst experience with West Elm and wouldnt wish them on my worst enemy. When my delivery came, the team was fine and said theyd assemble the one piece Id paid to have assembled. One of my pieces required legs to be put on and more heavy assembly than my other piece, which only needed handles pushed on. A couple of minutes later, I was amazed when they said they were done. Some idiot at West Elm had ordered assembly on the easy piece that just needed the handles pushed in. Meanwhile, my desk with no legs and lots of parts was still in the box. The workers called their manager and added assembly to my desk and did it, but now I have been on a million phone lines trying to get their mistake corrected on my bill so that I wont have to pay $35 for assembly that I didnt order. I checked out the furniture and everything seemed ok. Then I opened my vanity and the mirror was COMPLETELY damaged. The damage was not something that could be fixed with some cleaning. It looks like there are big splotches of glue or white goo deep in the glass of the mirror. I regret using West Elm.

The furniture is modern and simple in design but the wood is not cheap ikea looking- its good quality, solid wood- its not cheap and its not unaffordable. When you walk into the shop you are not hassled but there are staff members around looking to be approached. I went in there 3-4 times in a week when i moved to Manhattan recently- the people who work there dont mind if you just go in to look and ask questions but do not buy. When i chose what i wanted the staff member helping me- Ian, was very helpful- and he waived the delivery charge because they didnt have in stock what i wanted. Also Brian is another staff member who is very helpful and polite. One item of furniture i bought and took home turned out damaged- he had them come to me with another one and assemble it in my home for free. Having bought several things from there I am now planning on going back for more! Tip: go at a quiet time, like daytime on a week day or early afternoon on the weekend- because they get pretty busy at busy times.
