DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS. There are too many quality optical shops in the city! I had the worst experience as a person and as a customer at Wizard of Eyes Optical in East Harlem. I visited this establishment on Monday, June 9th, 2014. I asked the lady if they took my particular insurance and she replied that they do. So I started looking for eyewear and took a picture of me in the glasses to send to my girlfriend for her thoughts. As soon as I snapped the picture the optometrist snatched the glasses out of my hand and told me to leave his store, he doesnt want my business, and that he refuses to serve me. I was livid! Apparently he thought I was taking pictures so I could find the glasses online and purchase them there. A few things: (1) If he doesnt want customers to take pictures, they should have signs that say that. Apparently Lenscrafters dont have a problem nor does any other eyewear store. (2) I asked if they took my insurance when I walked through the door so that clearly means I am a serious customer who is willing to pay, (3) I hate to make this about race, but the only time I have EVER heard a owner tell a customer that they refuse your business and to leave is in the Deep South Jim Crow where owners would tell African Americans that they will only serve them if they go out back, if at all. I was totally embarrassed. Not only did he ask me to leave, but he also started putting newspaper in the glass case that held the eyewear so that I could no longer view them. The adult way to handle this was to just notify me of the store policy and I would have then put my camera away and set up an appointment. I did leave the store, but not after some words to his customers. He said he has been in business for 27 years and his people and clientele are not like me (whatever that means). Im an attorney and was totally floored. He looked to be over 50 years old and this is in no way to treat current or potential customers, especially as a small business with little to low markup. This is the age of social media where customers send pictures via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and if they are satisfied, they will post the business name for positive publicity. I was absolutely embarrassed and I highly encourage that no one supports this business or their outdated, unprofitable and hateful views and treatment of others.

Well I agree with the previous reviews given to this place. My first time shopping at this place was 2 yrs ago and I was treated pretty well after all I did spend close to $500. The story changed my 2nd time around tho. I called for some information and the manager was not only rude over the phone but he was also standoffish when it came to answer my questions when he found out my insurance and rushed me off the phone. Then yesterday when I went in the store I was greeted fine by the same lady (Marisol) who took care of me 2yrs prior surprisingly she remembered me. I guess she figured I was about to spend big bucks again. To her surprise I wasnt. The frames I bought 2 yrs ago were in perfect shape all I needed to purchase were the lenses. Besides all the frames they had were to my dislike and the only ones I kind of liked were $279. Why spend an extra $279 on top of $249 for my lenses when it wasnt necessary? Dont they know theres a recession going on? Anyways due to my insurance I am also entitled to a free pair of glasses so I asked for those too I like to have a back up pair just in case. This is where everything changed I guess they felt that I wasnt going to spend a substantial amount of $$$ and on top of that I wanted the free pair. She wasnt nasty with me but her whole demeanor changed. To make a long story short when I went to pick up the free pair of glasses and drop off the frames for them to place the new lenses I paid for the free glasses were poorly made and they literally fall of my face. I am getting ready to go pick up the ones I paid for out of pocket and I hope they are done properly but I will be taking the free ones back and telling them they need to fix them. I just hope I dont have to deal with their bullshit like others have. SMH

If It was up to me, I would give this place a zero. I am so upset that I wasted my time coming here. I asked them about the services they provided beforehand to my respective insurance. I called this place twice to make sure that they accepted my insurance and when I asked (both times) is there a charge for a contact lens fitting with my insurance; and I was told no by both female call takers. I finally come to the establishment with my insurance information only to be told that I am being charged a fee by the female in the front that barely acknowledged me. When I expeessed that I was told something different on the phone. The short female dismissed what I was saying to request the fee once again. I then asked to speak to the manager in charge. Why did I do that because he told the young lady (in front of me) rhat I would have to pay more. Since he was in the back saying this i replied that I was told that I didnt have to pay anything. From there he told me not to shout (which Was a lie and a deflective tactic because my normal tone of voice naturally carries) I told him i wasnt shouting but trying to understand why they would lie to me on the phone when I specifically asked. He continued to ignore what I was saying so I spent not another second in such a disrespectful establishment that cant be truthful or consistent about their fees and prices instead of wasting customers time.

The staff at this facility should undergo a customer service course. The last words out of my mouth upon leaving the facility were in fact, F you B. I was that upset! I asked a simple question and one of the females behind the counter answered me in the most nasty tone id ever been comfronted with. It was almost like anything I said was incorrect and she immediately needed to stress what she wanted to say. When I tried speaking to someone other than the short fat one with the red hair, that person too was aggresive and took the side of her co-worker. She was short, fat with long black hair. Shes usually nicer than the other two, but this day she showed her back side as well by asking me for her money. I had to pay for the service done, so after my argument with the red-haired one, she looked at me and said, can I have my money. The third girl, whos the slimmest of them all just looks like she doesnt want to help you and will wait until you ask for help. I recommend the owner find new staff.... I know for a fact these women have worked there for years, but regardless, they do not street customers well at all. Im beginning to feel like they rude to all races other than there own. And I do believe they are cheating customers out of their medcaid as well.
