Salvation Army Family Thrift Stores are dirty, cluttered, and somewhat disgusting places - especially if you like your thrift clean, classy, and tidy. While the clothes are sorted with some semblance of order, the collectibles and housewares tend to be scattered around and in pretty decrepit shape. The shoes are abysmal for the most part - so beat up and gross, I would be embarrassed to donate them to charity, much less resell them! The Chicago-area stores are bursting with so much merchandise, stuff is literally piled up and falling off shelves on the ground. Now that I have been to this paltry store, I truly appreciate the Chicago-area stores. There was barely any merchandise here – where the heck do rich New Yorkers donate their discarded goods – certainly not here! The pickings here could not even be called slim. In this thrift store desert, however, I found a sleeveless top for a mere 49 cents. I was annoyed to discover it must be a national SA policy to staple price tags right on clothes – once again, this inane practice left a hole in the top, albeit a small one. The clerk was very rude – he rang up the top at $3.99 when a clear sign stated all sleeveless tops, tank tops, and shorts were 49 cents. Mind you, they had only two pairs of ladies shorts left in the entire store! When I corrected him, he bit my head off and said that this was not a tank top. I pointed to the sign and he reluctantly changed the price. Hey, buddy, I didn’t make this up – the price was stated clearly on several signs. No need to be such a jerk!

Tried to donate a table to salvation army. Called the day before to confirm my pick up and they told me great news, youre the very first pick up theyll be there around 8:30. So, I planned on being able to be in at work on time, 10:30 rolled by, I called to check, no they said, youre 6th on our list, theyll probably be there before noon. Two guys showed up around noon, after an extremely cursory glance they refused to take the table because one of the panels had slight warping. No breakage, no real damage, just some warping. I highly doubt someone in need cares about the warping. I was relying on the table being removed that day for new furniture to come in. Tried to do a good thing by donating a Crate & Barrel table to someone in need, got left in the lurch after waiting all morning.

Employees are very nasty and rude. I usually dont care about nasty employess as long as I find good stuff but their employees are so bad that i left the items on cashier without paying for two times. I used to go there everyday but I dont go anymore. Cashier girl is always on phone with her headphones. While i was paying I thought she was talking to me but she was on phone. This happaned several times. Manager increases prices -or not sell at all- according to your skin color and gender. Previous manager lady was very nice who works at East 23rd St. store now.

I love this store and Ive found many costumes and props for my childrens theater. I also donate to them and have never had any problem. Some people (like Jennifer Hansen) dont understand the business model. The Salvation Army is not going to give your table to someone in need. They sell things and use the proceeds to run their programs. They only want items that are easily SELLABLE. So they will not accept furniture that has flaws.

Wanted to donate some books here. The woman who "helped" me said she couldnt take the books because they were dusty on the top of the spine. When I told her that a lot of the books were basically brand new never and never even read she said-- "well, i aint cleanin em." Took the rest of our books to a different place to donate. Avoid donating here- they are rude and not at all interested in helping anyone.

Unfortunately, Salvation Army’s management team transferred the best store manager (Ms. Angie) that location will ever have. The “new” store manager(s) now at this store doesn’t know thrift, nor do they smile at customers. The prices are higher. Big Mistake Management Team.......Bring our Angie back. I still see this new team a mistake for the community.

This is a very small store with no dressing room. HOWEVERRRRR, I walked out with a pair of "Woodies" Charli C clogs by Jeffrey Campbell, a Versace Sport lightweight sweater, a pair of Citizens of Humanity jeans and a Hadaki cosmopolitan tote and I paid less less than $20 for everything. INSANE!

Great location, and doesnt seem to have been cleared out by all the hipsters (yet). Prices are darn cheap, especially compared to Goodwill. Yes, you will have to dedicate precious time to sifting through piles of junk to find that one priceless gem - but its all about the thrill of the chase!

I give this place two stars, cause its a thrift store, that mean u finding things 70% to 80% off the real price and it belonged to someone before. If a shirt is twenty five dollars in the thrift stores why get it..?When you can go buy a brand new shirt in Target or some where of ur choice...

Its like any other typical thrift store. But you may have to take note of what you can expect to see here as its an upscale neighborhood. Books are certainly not the usual types you see in other similar stores.

We do most of our donations here. Make sure to bring your items in bags or boxes they can keep. They get a little grumpy if not.
