New York has a good supermarket that is not over-priced like Whole Foods and Gristedes, and the Associated Supermarket chain of stores in Manhattan is among the affordable stores. I have shopped at this Associated at the corner of West 96th Street and Amsterdam Avenue on the Upper West Side for years, and I have saved a lot of money. Look for their weekly flyer for discounts and sales. Sadly, several years ago a beautiful and more upscale nearby Associated Supermarket store at 99th and Amsterdam that used to be open 24 hours had to abruptly close down after only a year or so because its greedy landlord demanded an exhorbitant rent increase from $80,000 to $200,000 per month. What a shame because it was a better store than this one. But this is a place to shop for food where unlike Whole Foods and Gristedes you wont feel like you are being robbed. My only complaint is the aisles are a bit too narrow and the place could do with a major renovation or even add a second floor, if possible.

I moved into the neighborhood not too long ago and this is the local cheap grocery store. Veggies are a bit overpriced in general but most the other items are very reasonable. Veggies and meat seem fresh and I havent had any issues yet. Selection is good with some items you wouldnt expect to find thrown here and there. The isles are small so getting around is difficult sometimes. The lines do get long and awkward because of the size but I saw literally the fastest cashier Ive ever seen there. I noticed in another review calling them crooked because their prices didnt match the add, Im not sure if its a new addition but they have sighs up specifically stating that they have their own ad and do not follow the pricing on the normal associated website. I havet had any pricing issues yet which is a nice change from my last grocery store.

I am a black teen who is absolutely disgusted with my care at the Associated Supermarket. I was wrongly profiled today and was followed through the store by a man in a blue sweater with bushy eyebrows, oval face and almost pointed chin until he finally mustered up the courage to try and catch me in the act. My father had acknowledged that we were being followed and that is when he called me. The man thought I was stealing pudding. Yes. You read that right; pudding. I am utterly appalled. You have lost three customers and many more as I am a black private school student with connections.

Incredibly narrow aisles, overpriced food, rude frowny check out girls. Crowded with old women ( I have never seen so many really obese old women ) and people who are oblivious to everyone else around them. People block the aisles completely while looking for things but they cant help it because as I said the aisles are so narrow! For the birds. This place will put you in a bad mood! Unfortunately, this is what a lot of places are like in Manhattan. If you can, get to a Fairway or look for stuff on sale at Whole Foods or Trader Joes. This place will put you in a bad mood.

The "Loss Prevention" team there is a bunch of wanna be FBI Agents. The manager Adrian, is a poor excuse of a worker. He found himself pushing my stroller with my infant child inside away from me to obtain "stolen property" from underneath that the child had knocked over from a two foot off the floor shelf. He should be ashamed of himself. Discriminatory attitude from him. If youre black and not with the father of your child, do not go to this store. They will obviously follow you and make you feel extremely uncomfortable. Will not be returning here.

I just to work in the grocery store, was a great experience, gave me the days I need it for HS. Most of the Cashiers are supper cool, and I work around 1 year and 5 months. The only problem is the people need to learn some education, I was the most happy person, I just say Hello, how was your day, enjoy your weekend, but some people just looked at me and say nothing. And dont say that Cashiers are slow, some of them are New. He have to learn around 300 vegetables, fruits, ect.. and every code from Vegetables have 4 digits.

This place is open 24 hours I think? Saved me one day getting off work late but it smelled like paint thinner cause they were painting the basement at 2am lol but thats fine got what I needed
