Terrible customer service and terrible attitudes. I come inside to get my battery changed on my Pokemon game and the guy with the dreads has an attitude already about it for no reason and I ignore it. Call back two weeks later asking, very simply "do you guys accept trade ins"? & the guy groans "yes but seriously dont bring black ops". I ignore the attitude and just say cool cause I was interested in an item they had last I was there, and I asked if they have it. Of course the guy has to give me an attitude and says "just come to the shop on phone window shopping doesnt make sense"and Its not like I was asking him to check the value of what I wanted to trade I was simply asking him to check the very small Gameboy section they have in the front of the shop. He ended up checking and with an attitude said he had two and when I asked were either of them silver he refused to answer! I had enough and just told him Ill just go to ebay where I wont deal with people like him. I manage a local videogame store and would never ever give a customer the attitude he gave me especially knowing the value a customer holds on such small businesses like that. With eBay already having better prices, more stock and now Gamestop selling retro games online I cant imagine how much longer this place will stay in business. I will not be shopping here again. At least not for a long long time. Hopefully by then the attitudes change, the place has a nice atmosphere and really could be such a cool spot if it werent for the rude staff. Its a real shame and I do hope for future changes not just for other customers sake but for the store itself. THIS ISNT THE 90S! PEOPLE HAVE ALTERNATIVES TO YOUR SHOP! FIX THE ATTITUDES! Reply: Speaking in an authoritative manner is completely fine, but when it calls for it. I asked a very simple question regarding trade ins and was immediately given a dismissive tone that I wouldnt call authorative. Believe me I dont want anybody kissing my butt while I shop its super awkward. Honestly I wouldnt be caught dead writing a review Id just ignore it and keep going, but I was simply appauled by the way I was spoken to while I was being really nice on both occasions. Ive even ignored the sideshow bob comment that was "slyly" said in the back while I waited, the attitude and just chalked it up to a bad day. I really would love to try and get to know ya guys Im sure your not bad people at all but it will have to wait a little while before I come back here. Hope you can get an idea where Im coming from cause I do with you. Update for visit #3: Still the same customer service I experienced a few months ago. Sorry to say this, but anybody reading this review please avoid this place. Especially now that I am reading the other reviews here its really sad to see the owner or whoever try to discredit customer reviews. Just keep your hands away from the keyboard guys it really makes you look kinda sad. Just own up to your bullshit guys

Incredibly rude staff. The dude working the counter didnt say anything when I walked in (I didnt even notice him). He asked me five minutes later if I needed any help (I didnt). I asked him what the guys in the back were playing and he told me, "Street Fighter," with that grudging tone that told me he did not want to be working or at least did not want to bother with talking to me. I browsed around the store, walking down one of the aisles, and he insisted repeatedly that I "not put weight on the train set." Fans were blaring so I asked him to repeat himself, and he sighed and glared at me as he did so. I didnt even know what a "train set" was but after asking him five times what he was talking about he gruffly demonstrated that I shouldnt touch a piece of plywood where there was apparently a train set at one time. I had no idea why he was accosting me when I didnt touch the damn thing. I was fed up (for this and other reasons) and walked out right then. Theres little else to recommend the place. Prices are decent and selection is too. Among the other downsides, the place is extremely poorly lit. Darker than an intimate romantic restaurant, to the point that I considered whipping out my phones LED flashlight. This obscures the merchandise and surely lowers their sales. Idiotic. A giant column (apparently, the "train set") takes up a good 20% of the floor space, narrowing the space available for browsing and cramping the visitor. Meanwhile there was plenty of space for three people to play a game and block the other aisle. When its easier to play a game for free than to buy one you know they have no business skills and cant be making much money. Theyre incompetent at running a store. Another example is how they stock Atari 2600 games (which very few people buy and cost little, thus bringing in little profit) at the very front and Xbox One / PS4 (the current generation, which sell at a high volume and a high price) in the back. They have extension cables littering the back aisle, which is a public safety hazard and thus probably illegal. Theyve got reams of consoles in boxes but theyre sloppily labelled (pen marks crossing out words), usually not priced, housed in cardboard so you cant see what they look like, and arranged haphazardly. They need an attitude adjustment, customer service training, a business school education, new management, or to shut down. Even a high school graduate could employ more common sense than the owner of this business. The people of 8-Bit show no respect for their items, treating them like household trash, and they openly mock their customers. I have no respect for their business. Edit: The business owner replied to my review below. I did not walk into an employee-only area — no area was marked as such and the employee did not say anything about such an area. I did not touch anything out of the usual. Pathetic that the owner comes on here and insults and attempts to discredit customers. Avoid.

Amazing place. Always was, always will be. DO NOT LISTEN OR WORRY ABOUT THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. Let me explain.. The fellas that work here are very very knowledgeable, they offer a slew of services and repairs, and their pricing is fair. However, this isnt GameStop, they aint going to hop up on you and hound you with preorders, hard to find deals, collectors editions or Daily fish specials. Its a laid back vide, as a customer you come in and hang out, take in all the black and gray plastic, grab what you want and let someone know youre ready. If you are coming here, or any retro shop for that matter, you should have an idea of what you are looking for, the employees expect this as well. Think of it as going to a mom and pop Video Store back in the day, or better yet your friends house. Also keep in mind, these guys get there fair share of tourist shoppers based on location, that gets annoying, as a collector/Retro gamer, dont add to that...

I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into the store. My past experience at a gaming store wasnt that good. As far as the eye could see, the walls were filled with games and consoles. There were some arcade cabinets available to play, and, not to forget, the game library was huge. If you visit the store, make sure to ask for Marcus. He was extremely helpful to me, and helped me get exactly what I wanted. He offered me a great deal on what I was buying, and even though Im thirteen, he treated me like an adult. This is definitely the place for anyone who is looking for some games from the 80s, 90s, or early 2000s. Im even going to try to bring my friend here in the future. I will definitely return to 8 Bit and Up soon!
