The prices werent that cheap really , but my main problem was when i drove 45 minutes there to sell my books , after waiting with my 6 year old in the childs section( the prices were not anything to celebrate ) they offered me 8 dollars for maybe between 10 and 20 books the remaing 200 to 400 lbs of books they told me they could not take as there " dumpsters" were full, i was a little thrown back at this as in every article and clearly on there website and from dozens and dozens of reviews on yelp and google and random blogs it is suposibly common knowledge that they will courtesy take the things they dont want or cant sell and at worse just toss them , sure i had allotta books but what shocked me was when stunned and not sure if i heard her right i asked " but your guyss website says youll take em all and toss em, cant u just keep these for free and toss em" it was then that she reiterated and said there dumpster was full pointing to the Two full size recycling curb side "cans" next to them....so idk if maybe there actual dumpster was full in back possibly or if the more likely senario was true- simple lazyness which caused me to have to haul a coupple hundred books allvthe way back to Olympia from 38th street tacoma...as i write thisvi realize that my original star review was farvto nice as i would only return herevif i happened to be going this way anyways - definatly not a happy coustomer

I went to their site and read what they do .It said they buys books and will make a offer on any book you bring in and paid up to 50% .Right!!! OK I am disabled so I read a lot so I had a lot of books. Its hard for me to go anywhere but because they said they would make a offer on all the book it was worth it to me,I had over 1000 books so I thought even $1.00 a piece would be great .But thats not what I got they worded their site to make you think you would get a great deal. They went through my books took out all the new ones and hard cover books and there were books I had not even read in there (which I brought only because I thought being new never even read before I would get the 50% they got about 20 hard cover books and 200 + books that were new or been read one time and all I got was $90.00 I would never had taken it if it wasnt for the fact that I drove 100 miles to get to the store besides gas to drive there and back I needed the money. They need to re write the site and stop screwing people.I seen the prices on their books and the ones they got from me they will make at least 700.00 or more from them.I will never take my books there again or buy from them either.

There is a dearth of book stores in Tacoma. Half Price Books is the only major book store chain in Tacoma proper (Barnes & Noble is in Lakewood & Fed Way). This store is well located, near Tacoma Mall. Great hours - open til 10 every night. Prices are literally half price for every day items, collectibles run the gamut. You will also find games, videos and music here. If youre looking to sell - beware. They pay next to nothing for your items and do NOT offer more value for in-store credit (many stores do). But - I really appreciate Half Price books being here. The company is very active in charity and they donate literally tons of books to local schools and services. Thanks Half Price!

They have good books and Ive for the most part enjoyed the store. However, one recent experience changed my perception of the store. I actually went in there today, June 23, 2014 and bought a used nook ereader. I got it as an early birthday gift. Turns out when I got it home and tried to register it the nook is already registered to someone else and the store didnt do their job. So I purchased a nook for 40.00 and tax and cannot use it. I called Barnes and Noble and they said theres nothing that can be done. I called half price books and all I got was an attitude. Its poor sales like this that have changed my mind from going there again. I will purchase my books off ebay and amazon from now on.

The selection is good but the customer service is a disaster. Everyone acts like theyre better than you, and they act so snobby. Not a single smile in the whole store, not a single polite word or action, even when the employees are reciprocated with nothing but politeness and smiles. I will never shop in this terrible gloomy depressing store ever again. The customer service experience literally ruined my whole day. The employees rudeness and depression is contagious and I felt terribly sorry my little girl had to go through this terrible experience with me. Avoid this place at all costs. Id rather donate my books for free now, and shop for used books on Amazon.

Ive been coming here for years. When I started coming here it will called Half Price Books and Software. I wish I could give a separtate review because based on your intended visit to the location. If you are intending to sell your books or software be prepared to hear words such as "we cant take this because its to old" and "we can recycle this for you". When selling your goods here, remember one thing, they want to make a profit so be prepared to sell it to them for lower than youd make on eBay, craigslist, or elsewhere. If you are purchasing items your experience will be stellar, whether its for DVDs, CDs, Software, Games, and etc.

Mostly used books, but a great place if youre not on the hunt for any specific title. Prices are at half of, or more, of the original marked price, hence the name Half Price Books. Youll also find music, movies and console games. Not all of their inventory is used material , they have quite a collection of items that would make fantastic gifts. Staff seems a bit sparse on the floor, but will drop what they are doing and happily assist you. Ive been going there for nearly ten years, never had a bad experience. Overall if youre looking to kill an hour, this would be the place to go.

Located near the Tacoma Mall, this used/new bookstore also sells movies, music, and some toys. The childrens section is fun for littles as there is a lot to look at between the books and toys. The adult books are organized in a way that it is easy to find the section you are looking for. This store will buy your used books, but I have found that they offer significantly less than other places. The staff has always been friendly and I would definitely recommend stopping here for a book first before paying full price somewhere else.

Great place to get rid of books you cant keep anymore, and anything they wont buy, they will still take as a donation to be given away to others. Also a lot of great finds for good prices, books, dvds, games, and if any game/dvd disk doesnt work you can bring it back I think within 30 days. Its very easy to come in sell some books and mean to leave with some cash but then actually leave having spent money on a bundle of new books. Book nerds be wary of entering.
