Nordstrom has unbeatable benefits as far as holiday pay, health and dental insurance, profit sharing, stock options and tuition reimbursement. They really take care of their own--as long as you can sustain the unpleasant kitchen conditions. Once you pass the orientation day for work in the cafe, you are no longer human. You are a robot, and you will follow orders no matter how questionable or stupid or ridiculous. You will follow all recipes to the letter, and will not deviate. You will not express one iota of creativity. You will portion everything out to 0.1 ounces exactly. --Often they would make me take my break 90 minutes into my shift. Cooks have to double as dishwashers and prep cooks. Hours on the schedule are based on merit. You lose hours if you start making mistakes or slipping up. Everyday in the restaurant division you have to constantly give them reasons to keep you, or you will lose hours. This is a job, and nothing more. Everything is done to insulate the management from the line-level employees, creating a proletariat/bourgeoisie environment. This is very uncomfortable for the first year at Nordstrom, and every day I came to work I was filled with anxiety over my hours or what cuts they were going to make next. The one thing about Nordstroms hiring practice that I particularly dislike is discrimination. They may deny it, but I know it when I see it. Nordstrom "chefs" (ahem) are directed to keep their hours down, and they do this by finding the youngest "cooks" they can so they can pay less per hour. Cooks with over five years experience can be replaced because that increases labor cost. I was directly discriminated against for this very reason, but I finally caught on. Despicable! Nordstrom values youthful appearances and beauty above all else, so if you are middle-aged looking for a job, you will find yourself quickly discriminated against. I basically waived my right to file a complaint with the EEOC because it would be such a waste of my time. Management does not take advice, they give it and you are expected to follow orders without question. You need to listen to your line-level employees and give regionals a heads-up as to what is really going on.

Ya know, I dont know what it is about Nordstrom these days or maybe its just this store (which I honestly think it is) but Im not shopping there anymore unless absolutely necessary. Today, after standing in line for over 10 minutes to return some shoes and being ignored and blown off by the clerks as they rushed to go sell someone shoes - thats it. I bought the shoes I was returning at Nordstrom. They were poorly constructed and I took them back. While Nordstrom honored the return, as always, the customer service was sorely lacking. Why should it take me longer because Im returning shoes? Well, because the clerks make money when you BUY shoes - not when you return them. I dont know why they cant rotate the poor position of manning some registers since no one wants this job but, hey, is it my fault? Sadly, I was going to purchase 2 new pairs of shoes while I was there but I didnt. Next time (if there IS a next time) Im going to use the persons excuse as to why she had to be rung up quickly and get out of there - she didnt want to be late to a movie. Yeah, I always go buy shoes right before I go to a movie too. Good one.

They made me miss prom pictures, I ended up being two and a half hours late to prom because of them. "The first girl with the appointment showed up late, just completely throwing everything off." They said. While I was sitting there for two thirds of the time waiting, there was an employee just standing there talking with them saying "My shift doesnt start yet for another couple hours." So she just stood there talking to a girl who should have been working, but the girl who was suppose to do my makeup hadnt finished on another girl yet. So the girl who was suppose to do my makeup told her to start on me, off and on... Then finally couple hours later the girl did my makeup. While also trying to call other girls to come work because they were so behind. While they all just stood there. I showed them how I wanted my makeup done in pictures and I ended up looking as white as a porcelain doll, 10x whiter than the rest of my body. I had to go home and fix most my makeup. THEY RUINED MY PROM.

Lynnwood Nordstrom was my favorite of all the Seattle-area Nordstroms, but then they did a remodel and rearranged the upstairs. Its now impossible to find anything, I hate the new setup. Its also like they got rid of all of their employees once they did the remodel and hired on a bunch of newbies who arent familiar with the policies and procedures of Nordstrom (oh, and most of them have no style and look like they walked out of Forever 21!). The service has been absolutely terrible lately and they never ask if they can help you with anything. Really disappointed that I cant have the great shopping experience I hoped for here!

Ive always loved shopping at this Nordstrom. Everyone is friendly and attentive, even when its busy. Ive been in retail for 34 years and have always appreciated the companys ability to hire the best. Recently, I purchased make up at the MAC counter. Went in for a new mascara and Audrey helped me. Well, she wasnt pushing anything..I asked questions, took her advise and bought some colors a bit different than what I usually buy. Well, with her help on application, my eyes look really great-they "pop" and look soft, all at the same time! Thank you. Ill be back in a few weeks for some new lipstick.

I just felt a need to mention the staff at this Nordstrom are so friendly. Even during the rush of the holidays, they made sure that we found exactly what we were looking for, despite not being able to explain the specific product. Ended up having to order it online through their desk, but the process was painless. Even returning items is not a hassle at all (and didnt make us feel guilty.) Our entire experience here was pleasant.

Normally I like to shop alone and not be bothered by sales people. Today I went shopping with my newborn daughter and was helped by Katherine B. I was looking for denim and my daughter was tired and fussy. Katherine grabbed styles of denim that were to my liking and more suggested styles on top of that. She was very helpful in a time of need. If youre shopping here Id look for her assistance.

This is my favorite Nordstrom in Washington when it comes to customer service. Ive had exceptional help in the shoe department, womens athletic, and especially in the mens suits. The selection may not be as much to my taste as downtown or bellevue, but Ill drive up from seattle just to shop at alderwood because the service is just that good! Oh! And the bistro is so delish.
