This concerns an incident in your Christiansburg store # 890. I have shopped your store for many years and have always enjoyed the experience. Thursday Sept. 5th was not like that. First of all store looked very nice but after picking up the merchandise I needed noticed that the prices were higher on some things. No problem. Economy is all to heck and prices keep going up in every store. Then tried to get material cut and while 2 employees were socializing there was one woman working to get everyone waited on. So we put material back and I got my pattern and went to the front to pay. When we got to the front there was already a lady waiting and she told us she had been waiting for awhile and could not find a bell to ring for service. While we waited several other people came up to pay too. My friend knowing that I could not stand for a long period of time said she would go try to find help. She went to the material counter and asked if they could get us help at the front. She was told by a young man working that we would just have to wait they were busy there and could not go to the front. She came back up and we continued to wait and the same young man finally came to the front and when he got there he did not apologize for keeping us waiting but very rudely started to lecture us about the call bell at the end of a shelving unit!! Not a smile or a thank you waiting or anything pleasant came out of his mouth. The lady behind me made the remark that she had already rang the customer assistance bell, but it took a person to go get someone to help us. My friend in a not so nice voice that she did not need a lecture about the customer bell and she did not have to have her merchandise and put it on the counter and said she would not be back to the store. I paid for mine and in a nice polite way told him I would no longer be back to the store either. He never tried to make a bad situation good or tried to be polite. I worked in the public off and on for twenty odd years. I CAN SAY HONESTLY THAT I NEVER TALKED TO A CUSTOMER LIKE THAT NOR HAVE I EVER TREATED A CUSTOMER LIKE WE WERE TREATED. My friend works from her home with crafts and this is how she makes a living. I do craft shows and always tell people when they ask where we buy things to work with. Sorry to say your store will not be mentioned. Please if you are going to have a larger store have adequate staff and now that you have three registers at the front have at least one person to man them!! We were not the only patrons at the front that were upset, we were the only ones to express our feelings. Send this young man to classes to teach him how to work with the public!

Where is the "terrible to bad" rating? Calling their service poor is too nice for this place. I have had it with this store, upper management really needs to get a clue. They are ALWAYS understaffed. No other JoAnns seems to have that problem, and Ive been to many. Ive been to this store on weekends, weekdays, mornings, afternoons and evenings and I always am standing around wasting my time either at the cutting counter, or at the cash register (or both if theyre really swamped). Ive spent an hour waiting when I really needed something. Thats beyond ridiculous. Usually I just walk out with nothing because of it, Ive never seen such a horribly inefficient store in my life. The reviewer who thinks this store is so peachy is right about one thing, it is not the employees fault their superiors are cutting corners with the staffing. Ive never personally dealt with a rude manager/employee but Ive also never complained. I am also particularly annoyed because they are so inconsistent in coupon acceptance. I wanted to use a student discount since my fabric was already on sale. I had a tiny little cut of fabric, but it turns out I would "need" some kind of card for the pathetic 10% off they give (other Joann stores look at my student ID and can obviously enter it in just fine). Meanwhile, I had been waiting 10 minutes in line because some other person wanted to use 50% off ON EACH ITEM THEY WERE BUYING. AND THEY LET THEM! To say I am livid is a gross understatement, I think they have an awful lot of nerve. I know they can just key it in and be done with it. After the time theyd wasted I didnt even want to bother for pittance. In general this chain has the most awful quality, thin, crappy fabrics. I groan when I have to go in. Theres NO other fabric store in the area or I wouldnt bother with them because I hate being at their mercy. I try to avoid going and wait until I visit home where they have other chains that arent such a rip off.

Not happy. I made a purchase at Jo-anns in Charlottesville last night and realized 1 item wasnt in my bag. Called to ask if anyone found it on the counter. The manager as she refered to herself was RUDE. She kept saying that her staff hadnt reported anything being left on the counter or in the cart. When I said I dont have the item and im not lying. I asked if they were going to make it right she said that I could have lost it in the parking lot or in my driveway. At that point both of us were raising our voices. I stated that I wouldnt be back and would tell others how I was treated. She at that point said if I bring in my receipt she would give me the item if THAT WOULD MAKE ME HAPPY!!! I called corporate which I never do to report this. The lady was nice and apologized and said she would write this up and send it to the district manager. All of this over a 6.00 item. But it is the principle. Next time I need supplies Ill probably go to Walmart.

A great store, with friendly and knowledgeable staff, wide fabric selection, and a good craft selection. Although it may take some time to get through the line at the cutting counter, its to be expected when people bring up 10-15 bolts at a time, and the staff at the counter are always willing to answer any questions customers have, and know their fabrics, cuts, and sewing methods. I think its a bit ridiculous to go into a craft store and expect quick service - there are too many factors involved to make the process an in-and-out thing. Ive never been disappointed by my shopping experience here, and I have been shopping at this store for about 5 years.

My shopping experience with Jo-Ann Fabric in Charlottesville is always enhanced by the quality individuals who make up this excellent staff. Their professional and respectful assistance, kindness, patience and expertise at the fabric cutting counter and cash register is worthy of respect in a retail environment wherein customers often are simply not mindful of the nature of challenges individuals at the service level must negotiate day to day. I am grateful this business and these individuals are part of the community I live in.
