We recently purchased a 2012 Honda CR-V from Chase Urban! I cant rave enough about our experience at CarMax and how easy the whole process was! I have had the car dealership experience before with purchasing my first car and it was horrible! I wasnt very knowledgeable at the time and was definitely taken advantage of. I ended up purchasing a 2010 Hyundai Elantra and paying more than I should have. I also got screwed on the warranty (it expired before I could even use it!). So I was looking forward to going to CarMax because I know that they are known for the non-car salesman atmosphere. We met Chase who was just awesome! So down to earth and honestly just there to help us find a car and not worried so much about making a sale. We ended up trading in our car and purchasing our 2012 CR-V and we are so happy with this decision. Chase made the whole process easy and we were involved every step of the way. I especially like how they show you the financing offers from all of the lenders and you choose together what the best fit is for you. That is definitely not how it is at a dealership. They choose the lender in the back and then come out and say this is what we can offer! Chase was very knowledgeable about the cars and was able to answer any questions we had! Overall our experience was amazing! And I can tell you that I will never ever go back to a dealership to purchase a car! I will be going to CarMax for all of my future purchases and services! Thank you Chase and CarMax team! :)

I have bought...this will be my 4th car from Carmax; Sienna, Camry, Accord,...now, Camry. First of all you cannot beat the selection. Even if you have pay to transfer the vehicle, you can very close to a car that meets your criteria. So why not 5 stars? Carmax claims to do a THOROUGH multi-system check before the buy vehicles to sell--I have to believe this is true because I have never had a major problem with a Carmax vehicle. I got the Camry I wanted at about the price I wanted...who would not want to get a cheaper deal...but I believe there is benefit in paying for Carmaxs motivation NOT to pay out on the 30 day warrantee and NOT to pay out on any extended maintenance program. So piece of mind. Yes you can do all the comparisons and searching on line. The sales representative is very helpful with the closing paperwork. I am sure if you go in NOT knowing what you want they can help. Talk to Andrew, if in Cville. So my rating is very good. There were a few "detailing" failures (back window scummy on inside) but nothing worth getting twisted up about. The amount of business I have given them shows think they are trying to do right by the customer.

We purchased a 2009 Lexus 350Rx from Andrew Gursky. He was great - oh so patient as we dithered over the car to buy for my daughter, finally settling on the one mentioned. We received a generous trade in valuation for our broken 350Rx. We purchased the reasonably priced extended warranty. CarMax also repairs most failures free that occur within 30 days of purchase. We heard a worrisome noise in the engine and took it to CarMax; they did some work, declaring it fixed; however, the noise persisted. (Im not writing a bad review - read on.) My wife took the car to Lexus in Richmond for a thorough inspection - they found that the belt tensioner pulley and some bearings needed replacing ($500) and also that there was a transmission leak that needed repairing ($1500)! Well, we called a supervisor at CarMax while still in the Lexus shop and explained the situation; CarMax agreed to pay Lexus the entire amount for the repairs. I am very impressed with, based on this experience, their commitment to stand behind the cars they sell and to honor their agreements. It speaks volumes. So, many thanks to CarMax.

I would give ZERO stars if I could! CarMax Charlottesville left a bad taste in both my and my husbands mouth. We took our car there to be appraised and we had to leave it there until we could get it towed after deciding not to sell it to them. AFTER it being on their lot for 6 days, they give us a "courtesy" call to tell us that we had left the window down. Mind you it has rained in Charlottesville for multiple days. My husband told them that WE did not leave the window down, that it was left down from the appraisal. They told us that it was not their fault but ours. When my husband told them to pull the camera footage to see who left the window down they insisted they did not have a camera in that area. They did seize an opportunity to ask us if we wanted to purchase a car while my husband was there. Lets not even discuss how I was even at CarMax in the first place. I was there trying to get a new car because the transmission (amongst other things) went bad on a car I am STILL PAYING FOR! It didnt even make it for the term of my loan. POOR POOR customer service.

I had purchased a 2004 Honda Accord from this CarMax store in 2008 and had a good experience at that time. For this purchase, I was looking for a small, safe car for my son who is a new driver. I spent about three months researching cars, monitoring inventories in Charlottesville and Richmond and test driving cars at various dealerships and CarMax. Andrew, one of the sales persons at CarMax, was able to transfer a 2013 Chevy Sonic from Raleigh that was at a good price point. The test drive revealed a problem in the engine area, and their service department was able to work with a local Chevy dealer to get the alternator replaced at the time I purchased the car. CarMax presented a fair, low pressure environment. They sell an extended warranty but I wasnt subjected to any undue pressure to purchase it. The sales staff I talked with all expressed happiness and satisfaction with working at CarMax, and this came through with the customer service. The CarMax in Charlottesville remains a top local choice for me to buy a car. I highly recommend this store and its staff.

Normally, Im the type of individual who doesnt leave 5 stars for anyone, since I figure thats perfection, and who can obtain that?!? HOWEVER, in this case, I will give the unobtainable to CarMax of Cville. I would especially like to give a shout out for my friend Alex Martinez who outshined everyone else in our extensive travels to find the perfect car. He went above and beyond the call of duty, and was unswerving in his patience as we were VERY particular about which car we wanted, at least, after a few days of looking at everything on the market that remotely resembled a cross-over SUV. Alex got to know our likes and dislikes so well, that in one swift decisive action, with a pile of printouts on the desk, he had our perfect car brought in (for free) from Richmond. I could not find ONE thing that was not perfect, and bought it on the spot. Alex was thorough and methodical as he helped us get through all the minute details. I couldnt be happier!!!
