"Avoid Mega Wheels Auto Sales At All Costs" In late April 2013 I answered an ad a guy named Alex had posted on Craigs List for a car. It turns out Alexs son, Eddie, was selling the car. (Why didnt Eddie put the ad on Craigs List? I dont know.) THEN, it turns out that Eddie sold the car to me through a dealership called Mega Wheels Auto Sales (1568 Cranston, Rhode Island). But Eddie doesnt even work there. The dealership is owned buy a guy named David Voller, who I never even met. I went to test drive the car May 1. I ended up buying it. I registered it two days later, on May 3. By May 4, the check engine light came on. It turned out there was also an OIL LEAK that neither Alex, Eddie, or David disclosed. After driving it for only two days, I had to put in a quart of oil! Also, they claimed there were new tires on the car. My mechanic said the tires would barely pass inspection, they were so worn. Lastly, the true mileage was not known. They stated there was 90K on the car, but in reality there was 199K, as I later discovered. I brought all these things to Eddies attention and told him I wanted to return the car and receive a full refund, including sales tax. He ended up taking the car back, but he kept my money until I could get the title to him. (The title was being processed at the DMV, which takes 4 weeks in MA). Once I got the title in the mail, I immediately called Eddie so I could give him the title and he could give me my money. First, he said he cant give me the sales tax back because the state has it and I would have to appeal to the state. That turned out to be completely false. Dealers need to refund the consumer the sales tax and then the dealers work out receiving the refund from the state. Second, once I received the title and was ready to hand deliver it (despite the 3 hour drive round trip on my end), Eddie reneged and said he wouldnt be giving me my money back. Actually, he didnt even have the guts to say it to me -- I had to get my lawyer involved and he eventually told the lawyer he had no plans of returning my money. In the end, I had to get the Rhode Island Consumer Protection people at the DMV involved. Ultimately, I did receive my money back, but it took many phone calls, many sleepless nights, and a ridiculous amount of unnecessary stress. Unless you enjoy shady, untrustworthy people and have money to throw away on a potential lemon, I highly suggest not buying a car from Mega Wheels Auto Sales, Alex, Eddie, or David Voller. These people are disreputable scam artists at best. Do not buy a car from them no matter how good the car seems. I am trying to help you not go through what I did -- much stress and time wasted. If there was a rating lower than 1 star, I would give it to them.
