I had a HORRIBLE experience with Bob Stone and his salesman Les McCoy. I bought a used car from them on July 1, 2013 and have been asking for the owners manual and service records since that day. Its been exactly a month since I drove the car off their lot and I still dont have either the owners manual OR the service records . Seems like an easy request to fulfill and Les continually assured me he would send those items. However,he has not been true to his word and neither he nor his boss Bob Stone, are taking me seriously. I let them know (via multiple emails and phone calls) that I need both items to help with problems Im having with this car: the AC went out 2 weeks after I bought it and I needed the manual to help figure it out. Now the brakes are going out and I need the service report to see what condition they were in when I purchased the car. The salesman told me they were "good" but has not been forthcoming with the appropriate paperwork expected of a reputable car dealer. I even tried to call Bob Stone himself, giving him the opportunity to make things right with an unsatisfied customer--all I want are the service records on this car, and an owners manual. I doubted he would do anything about the AC or brakes, but wanted to give him the opportunity to make it right by responding to my request for service records and manual. As of yet, he has not returned my phone calls or emails. My recourse now, is to share my extreme dissatisfaction by writing this review of Bob Stone Auto Group in The Dalles, Oregon. If you are a potential customer, I would steer you to another place of business that offers the kind of customer service expected when buying a car from a reputable business. Afterall, if Bob Stone (or Les McCoy) cannot supply the service records for a car they sold, what will they do when something really goes wrong with a car bought from them? Bob Stone Auto Group is NOT a reputable car dealer, nor does he care about customer service or support. I would NOT RECOMMEND doing business with his agency.

The overall experience would have been fine except for a serious lie told by the salesman. Before I purchased the GMC truck I specifically told the salesman about my concern for a known brake problem with GMs Iintegrated Brake Control System not having the ability to communicate with the electric/hydraulic brake system on my fifth wheel trailer. I asked him to confirm with GM that the problem had been corrected before I bought the truck. Later, during a phone conversation with my wife, the salesman told her that "I checked with my guy in the shop and he said that there is no longer a problem." After taking delivery of the truck I drove over 80 miles to pick up my fifth wheel and after I got completely hooked up and ready to continue on my trip, I discovered that GMs brake system DID NOT work with my electric/hydraulic brakes causing us several days of delay and added expense. Long story short, after a sleepless night of researching the internet I learned that this was a known problem with GM trucks and it has exsisted since 2008. I even found a warning in the owners manual about this serious saftey issue. I dont like being lied to by a salesman who is willing to tell me anything I need to hear, as long as I buy the truck. All the guy had to do was seriously research this problem for me and BE HONEST. Sadly, professional integrity is hard to find, at least with this particular salesman. Its scary to think about what could have happened if I had driven the truck towing a 17,000 lb. trailer with no trailer brakes. People could have been killed and I found little to absolutely no concern from the salesman concerning his unethical sales tactics. Plus, the service department seemed clueless about what to do so I took the truck to another town and had an aftermarket trailer brake control installed by a reputable independant repair shop.

We were traveling from Meridian Idaho to the Oregon coast. We planned to stay in The Dalles for the night so we werent driving so far and had friend to visit in Salem anyways. So it gave us more time. As we pulled into our hotel our Trans Am wouldnt go into gear. This was a Friday night. We could only find one repair shop open on Saturday which was Tonkin Motors. We dealt with Henry that day. He was awesome. Gave us price quotes and was very empathetic to our situation. Rather than be stuck for days (this was boy going to be an easy fix) he had us in a very nice Outback and we went on with our vacation (week long). Enter Jeff on the weekdays: Both kept is updated on our car. They were both so empathetic and amazing. We opted for a fix we thought might make the car at least drive able home but the damage from the seized pilot bearing had done more damage than initially thought. We ended up having a friend come tow it home (we would have had them just fix it, but we had to be back home and fixing the car was not in our budget). They were so fair and helped us with the cost of what they did do and the rental. Thanks to them we were not in dire straights when we got home (last night at midnight). Because of the service we received and what they did on cost we have already decided that as silly as it sounds next year when we will be purchasing a truck we will drive from Meridian Idaho to Tonkin Motors is The Dalles to buy. What they did for us was that amazing. We do not live near them but will always be loyal customers. Thank you Henry, Jeff, and Danny for all your help and Tonkin Motors staff. I have no words that could possibly properly relay my, and my husbands gratitude!!! I would recommend them for service any day of the week!!!

We began our search for a 2015 Subaru Outback Limited with all the bells and whistles in June. Our search discovered that this particular model would not be available on Oregon dealer lots until the end of September and October. We stayed in contact with several dealers viva internet throughout Oregon & Washington. As time passed we were was prepared to make a trip to Portland to purchase an Outback Premium instead. The night before we left, Bob Stone contacted me saying, "Your car has come in", that was a week ago. The car was held until we could get to the dealership the following day, w/no deposit to hold! Yes we did buy the car, we are so happy with our purchase and most of all Bill our salesman, and Shasta the financial person made our purchase a breeze. No hassles, they unbelievably took my check, no questions asked, which saved us the trip to the bank for a cashier check. We were so very impressed with the fact that Bill found the car we were looking for, and the final steps to driving away with that car went like a breeze. Everyone was professional, knowledgeable, respectful, and treated us like royalty from the moment we arrived. We I have since told everyone about our Bob Stone experience, and we assure you we did discover another Limited car in Vancouver prior to my purchase in The Dalles and that experience was a nightmare. We know good people when we see it, and this dealership went beyond our wildest dreams and we will return to this dealership again someday. We encourage everyone to keep Bob Stone in The Dalles on their radar. A special thank you to Bill and Shasta, we are having such fun with our new Subaru Outback Limited! Sheila & Harvey
