I went into Xtabay before a Christmas party for work. It was an upscale event, so I had been all over town looking for something classy but still with vintage flavor! I went to Xtabay on my lunch break after shopping a ton of other shops closer to home, and was absolutely thrilled! The owner was so friendly and was just finishing up helping another girl put an outfit together, who was super excited about her purchase! She raved to me what a good eye the owner had for fit and style. Once I had pulled my selections, she looked at what I had, then after asking what look I was going for, pulled a few additional options that I hadnt thought to grab. After trying on what I thought would look good on me, and failing, I tried on her suggestions. Everything fit like it was made for me! And the dresses that hadnt jumped out at me on the hanger looked divine once I got them on. I ended up buying one of her picks (beautiful!), paid less than half of what other stores charge for good quality vintage, and my co-workers still mention that dress every time we talk about the party! It is so rare to get that personal assistance, and especially with someone who understands vintage cuts. I cant say enough about what a fun shopping experience that was!

I went to Xtabay after reading about them in Oregon Bride, since I wanted to find a vintage wedding dress. I came in and the owner was very nice in helping me pick out dresses to try on. She even measured me to make sure I would be trying on dresses that would fit properly. While I didnt buy a wedding dress, I bought a beautiful "going away" dress for after my reception, which was "new-old stock" since it still had the original tags on it. I also bought some jewelry as well, for a swell low price. Additionally, with Xtabay is you really get what you pay for - the quality of vintage available is beyond anything I have ever seen. Nearly every item is near mint or mint. Oh, and lovely atmosphere! Everything is so neat and tidy with great decor.

Shopping at Xtabay is an experience like no other. If watching old black and white movies makes you feel nostalgic for a time when womens clothes were elegant and glamorous, this is the shop for you. The store is exquisitely decorated throughout with vintage touches that invite you to step back in time. A glass display case with cute little purses or jewelry, a gilded mirror, rich draperies, they all add up to make your shopping experience a special one. As for the dresses, they are beautifully presented, and whether elegant, simple or elaborate in details, each and every one of them is unique in a way that will make it the must-have for that special party, celebration, or memorable event. Xtabay is the place to shop for Classy Vintage.

Xtabay occupies a distinctive niche in Portland vintage and ive been pleased with it. wish they had more stuff you can wear after you get older and fatter, but hey, cant have everything. oh and i wish they wouldnt always catch it if i bring something in to sell and its got a tiny stain. damn. :-) the owner used to work at The Big Bang, which was like the Red Light + new club gear + punk rock + crazy vintage warehouse + things to wear to prom + Magpie. Big Bang was ground zero for pdx vintage goodness, Rays Ragtime was more classic and much smaller, Avalon was highly selective and awesome but with a snooty atmosphere. i think that expertise and breadth of experience shows up in this very carefully curated, focused shop.

I have shopped here for years and will never go back. After purchasing a dress that was broken she refused to give store credit or take it back after I had been there 3 times trying to return it. Every time I went the staff was no help and said to come back when the owner was there. Also I received a gift from the store and she offered me 5$ credit even though all the other items of similar quality were going for 30 plus dollars. I love vintage shopping and support local business very often I will NEVER go back here. I planned on purchasing my wedding dress and all the bridesmaid dresses here but unfortunately that will never happen.... BEWARE... save all tags and receipt and still expect it to be unfair.

I went in to look at vintage wedding dresses, after coming from a horrible experience at another site. My hopes had been dashed, so I didnt really have much excitement for this shop. Wow!! Was I wrong!! They welcomed me into their beautiful bridal salon and gave my bridesmaids and myself mimosas to start off. There was no rushing, I could try on anything and everything I wanted! They were so nice!! I did find my perfect dress and I couldnt be happier! When I went in for a fitting, Erin was so pleasant to work with even though we were a little late for our appointment. I highly recommend this wonderful shop for an awesome wedding experience. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful memory!!

I grew up here in Portland and came of age before the vintage craze. Since my teens Ive seen a lot of mediocre vintage shops come and go and I can say with complete confidence that Xtabay outshines them all. Not only does Liz have some of the most beautiful, rare, and well-preserved items around, shes always been the most gracious and helpful proprietress. She is knowledgeable and ready to assist me without being overbearing and shes always been completely fair and up-front with me regarding her items. I tell all my friends that this is the BEST vintage store in town, and it is. If youre looking for something beautiful and unique as well as excellent service, go to Xtabay. Liz is the BEST!!

I really wanted to like this place. However, my shopping experience there multiple times have been very disappointing. The staff is condecending and rude at best, and one time they misrepresented an item to close a sale. I hear that this kind of self-important attitude is common at this place. They also from many other accounts treat you based on your "looks" if you will - if they dont think you look the part of someone who would spend money, they ignore you. You can buy similar items at many other places for half the price by the way.

Very well-curated, high-quality vintage store. If I had lots of money, Id buy here regularly! Sometimes I go to breakfast at Broder (across the street) just so I have an excuse to visit Xtabay. Yes, prices are higher than your average vintage store in Portland, but thats because the owner clearly hand-picks top-quality items and presents them beautifully. I took a friend visiting from the East Coast to Xtabay and she left with three or four pieces because vintage here is such a (comparatively) great value.

This shop had SO many beautiful things at pretty reasonable prices (for vintage anyway). What upset me the most though was that the owner hardly acknowledged me, and spent the entire time gabbing with a group of her friends (?), never even giving me as much as an "if theres anything I can help you with, let me know". She seemed nice enough but after years of working in customer service myself, thats the least I expect. I could have dropped a pretty penny in there, but I doubt I ever will now.
