US Outdoors online purchasing is HORRIBLE and I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND anyone to shop online. You will be charged for items that are not even shipped only to find out when you call the item is no longer in stock. No follow-up email stating the item is no longer in stock and you will be issued a refund. Good thing I pay attention to my credit card statements. Also customer service is just as bad you would think business is being conducted out of someones house. The phone just rings and rings without an estimated wait time, the when someone finally picks up you have to wait another ten minutes in complete silence for rep to find your order# hoping they dont hang up. To make matters worse once they discovered their error they say theyre going to issue a refund with a confirmation email. Well I never got an email so Im in the process of disputing the charges with my credit card company. It should not be this time consuming to get a situation so small rectified. Its not like i did a return I never even received the item I purchased and you charge me INSANE. To top it off I should of known when i called the first time and they couldnt find a tracking number the rep was supposed to email to me tracking number. You cant track something never shipped and thats why the didnt have a tracking number. Anyway save yourself sometime and aggravation.

For Christmas, my brother had asked for an Obey brand hoodie. He just got engaged December 12th so I really wanted to spend the extra money and make his Christmas even more special for him since he was giving me my first sister. I searched 4 different store locations that carry the sweatshirt, all were out. Finally, I looked to the internet, spending two days trying to find the exact one he wanted. Finally US Outdoor had them in stock. I made my purchase as quickly as possible (since other stores were selling out as I searched), printed my receipt, and felt confident that my order would make it here with a week left before Christmas. Today, I get online and see that I have an email from US Outdoor saying they actually DONT have my item in stock. They dryly added "sorry for the inconvenience." Not once in the email did they say what I had ordered, when I ordered it, or anything to show that I even made a purchase from them. It looked like just another piece of spam mail, but luckily I took the second look or else I would never have known. Garbage. Absolute garbage. If they cant handle something as simple as inventory, then they need serious help. Save yourself the extra hassle and shop elsewhere. Their prices were inflated anyway..

You can not return anything you have used. When I was buying the boots, a salesman told me that there was a 7 day in-store credit on equipment that did not "work out" and after that, they would get me in the right gear if what they sold me did not work after the 7 days. According to the official no-returns on used equipment policy, the salesman lied to me about the return policy. Eventually, after debating the store manager for about 10 minutes and talking to different people, we determined that the boots looked new and they could resell or return the boots. I eventually got in-store credit, but I had to fight for it. With this insane return policy and the fact that the sales guy lied about the no returns policy, there is no way I will buy anything from this store again especially when some of US Outdoor Stores competition have very good return policies. This is the official policy printed at the bottom of receipts: "Unused items may be exchanged or refunded within 10 days of original purchase or layaway with receipt or for store credit or exchange within 30 days with all original packaging and receipt"

I had a great experience at US Outdoor store this past weekend when I needed adjustments done to my ski boot. Walking in, I was immediately and cordially greeted by an employee, a surprise considering the reviews I had read when I was looking up directions to this place. When I walked to the back, Ben, a boot technician, immediately greeted me and began listening to the issues I had been having with my boots and suggested several innovative options that would address my needs. After about an hour, the modifications were made. I skied that night and they were great, even though I had recently switched from Lords to AC50s (much stiffer ski requiring more pressure to control and carve). I will definitely be coming back here. As a corollary, I think I can understand some of the negative reviews. The person who rung me wasnt nearly as cordial as Ben or some of the other staff, and seemed "too cool" for us; I could imagine that some of the staff might not be as helpful and perhaps condescending, but I had a great experience and wanted to contribute to the reviews on here.

I walked in this morning looking to buy a ski mask for my son. As i walked up the stairs, an employee asked me if he" could hold my bag (messenger bag) for me while i shopped" it was very embarrassing. People in the store turned to look at me. Im 45 year old Hispanic man (former LAPD), this has never happened to me in my entire life. I didnt know how to react, i didnt want to make a scene in the store, and i really needed this item for my son, so i just gave my bag to him. I take pride in my appearance, Im cordial, educated, well mannered. Ive never been treated this way. I wondered if they ask women to hand over their purses or bags when they walk in. I doubt that. I cant help but believe that it was because I am Hispanic and male. Other than THAT incident the employees were nice, knowledgeable and helpful.

Ive been going to U.S. Outdoor since I was 10 years old. I got my first snowboard here!! Now that Im a "tad" bit older I have more free time so I decided to pick up snowboarding again. Tired of renting boards I went with a snowboard purchase that was a great overall experience. The employee knew a lot of types of snowboards, boots, bindings which helped the overall process. It seems that snowboards of the 90s have changed quite a bit and the one i picked was a WHOLE lot different than what I expected. I called up U.S. Outdoor and explained the situation to which they helped me get back into the right kind of board that I was looking for! Great experience and will be recommending U.S. Outdoor to all my friends.

US Outdoor remains the best outdoor clothing and gear shop in Portland and one of the best in the country. They only carry the best brands on the market and their buyers do a great job of stocking products and colors you cant find at mass retailers like Any Mountain, Big 5 and REI. I completely disagree with the 2 star review about poor selection because US Outdoor is usually packed with stock and they move through it quickly. Thats why they are able to have regular sales not to mention the huge clearance annex upstairs. US Outdoor remains in business when almost all independent outdoor stores are struggling to stay open because they know whats up.
