I dont like the way they run this place. Sure, i support Habitat for Humanity, and Ive shopped here for years because *occasionally* you can find a deal on something random, like a roll of insulation, or some concrete blocks. Or, if you just need a little bit of varnish or paint or something, you can often find a small opened can for $1, rather than spending $10 on a new one. In general though, its kind of like going to Goodwill. In that, you will find stuff that you "didnt know you needed" and end up making purchases that arent really necessary, and that you may end up donating back to them when you clean out your garage next summer. And in that, the prices are not really amazing bargains. Its like theyre trying to get as close to "new" purchase price as they can get away with. So sometimes, Ill see, for instance, a used Harbor Freight power tool, for nearly the new price, and its missing a crucial part. Whereas when you see something really nice there itll be priced in the hundreds of dollars. Ive often found doors that Ive wanted only to see them priced over $200. They also have a "no bargaining" policy. Which is fine, unless of course the item you want isnt priced. In one such instance the conversation went like this: "how much is this?" "what do you think would be fair?" "$5" "Are you kidding? At least $20" "oh, I thought it would be like $5. theyre $25 new" "I might buy this its so great" "Alright, how about $10?" "Sorry, we have a no bargaining policy" "You just made up the price in front of me after asking me what Id pay?!" Finally, Ive been cleaning out the garage and donating some loads of materials, and for some reason the guy who works the dock seems to have a chip on his shoulder. I got there at 4:32 to make a donation and he wouldnt accept it, because they stop accepting donations at 4:30. Give me a break. Im donating inventory to your store. Id tried calling for the previous half hour to find if there was a cut off time, and got a busy signal repeatedly. Work with me here man. The last time I made a donation, the same guy got really upset because maybe 1/4 of the lumber were too small to accept. He seemed to think this soured the whole lot, and almost refused to accept any of the lumber. It was weird. His boss had to come out and take over because the guy was so bent out of shape. Its weird when you have to explain to people how being basically courteous is step one of customer service. Anyways, they are a good option for getting rid of excess building materials, more eco-conscious than the dump - but I think people are more excited about the idea of this place than the reality. That said, the people who work the counter (who I think are volunteers) are generally pretty cool.

I went in looking for a couple light fixtures, didnt find those, but I did find 13 matching brushed nickel industrial door handle sets for $5 a piece! Looked them up after I got home and retail new for over $300 a piece. The gentleman at the register was extremely helpful and called over another employee to look over the items to make sure they would work for me. My wife was waiting in the car with the kiddos while I ran inside and they had no problem with me taking one of the lock sets out to show her before I bought them all (gotta get the OK right?) The store lay out was very clean and straight forward, I was able to do a 10 minute walk through and look at just about everything I had interest in and they gave me all the info on their return policy just in case anything didnt work out and I wanted my money back. I even bought and refurbished a $12,000.00 Lobster tank for use as a home coldwater aquarium from the Beaverton Location. It weighed 650 lbs empty and they had plenty of volunteers on hand to help me lift it into my trailer. Super helpful people, very cool stores, Ive been checking out all the other habitat for humanity restores since then and have been upgrading just about everything in my house and saving a bunch of money over buying new at home depot.

I stopped in for a quick look, was met with a man passing by who said "well be closing in about a minute" Then a large, frowning, sour faced lady standing by the side of a counter followed up by saying " Were closed NOW" rather blandly and then stared off.... no hours posted on the door..... no offering of when i could come back until i asked..... So maybe i wont come back.....

I love the thrust behind this place—take used construction/house-y kinda stuff and reuse it. Ive found huge packets of screws, windows, bricks and other sundries here. Came looking for a better wood section, but no love. In terms of dropping off your construction goods, very easy and straight forward.

Salvaged building materials, paint, furniture, hardware, tools, housewares. Check here before buying new. Great prices and it benefits H4H, plus keeps reusable stuff out of the landfill.

This is the kind of place you can find amazing things but you have to shop it often as things that are good go fast. But if you love to recycle, adapt and reuse this is the place.
