Let me first start by saying I dont post negative reviews and was not going to until I woke up this morning to a dead animal. I purchased a frilled dragon from the store in Newborn a few months back. With this lizard I purchased full setups and supplies. I have several of these lizards and never had a problem. When we got the lizard she looked as if she wasnt well. The staff told she would be fine it was from the stress of moving her. After 2 days of having her we took her to the vet. The vet said she had a systemic infection which she apparently had for a while. This was vet visit 1 of many. I called the store promptly and informed them of the situation and advised them the vet said it was most likely contagious and any animals near her cage should be quarantine. I asked what we should do and the individual on the phone informed me there was nothing they could do. This animal was sick for a long period of time and never addressed, this store runs worse than a big box store. After many trips to the vet and about $900 later the lizard succumb to organ failure. I feel this was all due to poor care and knowledge on the staffs behalf that this lizard went thru this. Anyways I highly recommend no one buy anything from this store. And to add this was not the only animal sick, a week later we returned to the store just to see and there was a rainbow boa in the back cage that had several poor sheds and I recommended they take her to the vet to help with the eyecups and they told me "oh shell be fine it happens" It only happens when snakes are poorly cared for and stressed.

Ive visited this petstore and the reptiles were being housed in extremely improper conditions. The temperatures and humidity were all wrong. They were keeping different species together in one cramped enclosure. There were no hides or water dishes, and the snakes were crawling with mites. When confronted about this, they claimed they were in the middle of treating the mites and this is why they were keeping different species together with the temperatures and humidity all wrong. They also claimed that the two snakes in question were from roughly the same area in the wild. This does not make it okay under ANY circumstance to keep a brazillian rainbow boa and a boa constrictor together in the same enclosure. They require two completely different humidities and temperatures, and cohabbing unnecessarily stresses the snakes out and can result in cannibalism. Also they will be competing for the best spot in the enclosure. This constant state of competition causes a great deal of stress in your snake. Additionally, when a friend of mine visited three months ago, he said that multiple species were still being cohabbed in the same enclosures, and filthy conditions. They had a green tree python that had a horrific patchy shed, dehydrated and no receptacle for water. Please ensure you buy your reptiles from a knowledgeable, reputable and responsible establishment.

I agree that it is a very cool pet store but I will never go back. First off they had a new girl who should not be suggesting things that she has obviously not had any training in. I was there to buy a Greek tortoise and she asked if I would like a baby one which was in fact a sulcata tortoise (not at all the same thing since sulcatas get to be 2 to 3 times bigger than a greek). I bought the Greek tortoise there Wednesday and on the way back to Portland she started making some noises (not a good thing when it comes to tortoises). Then started the nose bubbles. I called critter cabana the next day and they said they could take her back and call me if she starts feeling better (in other words they would just put her back in her cage and hope for the best). I decided I rather insure her health and go to the vet. She ended up having a respitory infection and worms. The vet visit cost me just as much as buy the tortoise in the first place. I am very unsatisfied and will not be returning. The entire reason I went out of my way to go to critter cabana was in hopes that their animal are keep in better condition than the average petco, which is clearly not the case.

First of all it is widely inappropriate for the owner to respond to reviews. As a business owner you should expect the good and bad and not go on a rant about why that person got a sick animal in the first place. You should NOT be selling or housing wild caught animals of any kind with captive bred. Wild caught animals will have infections, diseases and parasites that if not treated will spread to others. Why are you selling wild caught anyway? Why dont you just leave them alone. So many peoples critters have died because of improper care.. Its kind of like scamps is back. As a pet store you should have the training and knowledge of ANYTHING you sell, you have no business carrying something that you have no knowledge of its care and well being, It seems to always end in fatality. Instead of getting defensive of what we the public(your source of income) think..maybe you should take it as a lesson and learn how to be a good, healthy pet store. Dont give other stores a bad rep for youre mistakes. You could be successful if you minimise your "stock" and put 150 percent into healthy animals. As they should be treated.

In November I read reviews of Critter Cabana on this board prior to purchasing a puppy there that same month. I had tried to take my children to the pound multiple times. We started going to Petsmart every weekend for six months after our Coon Hound died. It was hard for my autistic son at the pound because the amount of barking was a trigger, we tried craigs list pet finder for months. Petsmart never had a dog that would be good with the kids or that bonded with us most of the time there were small dogs and we wanted a large dog. The review upset me enough here that I called various family owned pet food stores and vets who told me that Critter Cabana was ethical and not like the old scamps in the mall at Llyod Center. We are very happy with the dog we adopted. Our black lab was a perfect fit for us and I was so happy with how they treated us when we were in the store.

The Manager at this store is so unprofessional and extremely rude. The puppies looked all too big to be in their glass pens and witnessed her yell at two different people to not touch the puppies while in there. She could use a little more decorum or move the puppies she didnt want touched somewhere out of the eyes of kids. They lacked product and I will be making the trip into Sherwood or Tualatin next time and skip this place and in comparsion despite the gas I will spend will actually be saving money due to their obvious markup on products. The Critter Cabana in Wilsonville is much nicer and much more friendlier and higher class than this one in Newberg.

I always see dead animals when I go to Critter Cabana, so I cannot recommend this shop, regardless of the cute puppies. Another downfall of Critter Cabana is the selling and keeping of exotic pets. For example, the owners kept large tortoises in the front windows of the shop. The setup was not done correctly and the shop experienced major water and mold damage. The owners also kept a wallaroo (a small kangaroo), which was tragically killed by a dog. Many people love this shop. Unfortunately for the animals there, the owners are working by trial and error, where the errors are sometimes fatal to the critters sold.
